Love this video. This has always bothered me, people calling these 37 replicas. Very informative man. I have a 1938 and I have a video up about it. It does have slashes in the corners, but yeah you can tell the differences easy.
Great info, thanks for sharing. I have a couple 37s from the 90s. I also had I what I believe was an anniversary model “replica”. Is was very squared off and taller than a standard. I believe it was a limited edition. That was 5he mid 90s I think. That was stolen with most of my collection.
I absolutely love you and your channel, but I’m afraid I have to disagree. Between the time that the body style was released (and I’ll take your word that it was released in 1985), up until the mid-2000s, it came from the factory with that sticker you showed. I just can’t discount the fact that Zippo themselves singled out the year 1937. And look, I know we can easily be pedantic and point out that Zippo didn’t mention the word “replica” on the sticker, and no, it’s not an exact replica of a real model from 1937, but neither are the 1935 and 1941 replicas. The 1935 is very close, but the 1941 is quite different in overall shape and edges-especially in person. Hell, even Zippo’s replicas of the 1932 and 1933 models aren’t super accurate, namely the fact that they had a stock five barrel hinge-as you pointed out in another video. Those two models even came with a modern insert! But despite those two things I doubt anyone will really die on the “it’s not a replica” hill. We could easily consider the 1932, 1933, 1935, and 1941 “replica” models as fairly close homages, not actual replicas, just as you do the 1937. Interestingly, the earlier “1937” model also had distinctly thinner slashes than the more recent “Vintage” models (however there is a year or two of overlap near the end of the “1937” version’s run). Though I do think that this was just a machining change rather than a conscious decision. I don’t know for absolute certain, but I believe when the “1937” -> “Vintage” change happened, they also changed the patent number version of the bottom stamp into the current version denoting it as a Vintage model. Again, I’m not trying to pick a fight with you or anyone else, but it’s undeniable that Zippo did (at least until the mid-2000s) market the now-Vintage model as one that was representative of the actual lighter that was released in 1937.
Bad news. In China everyone call a Vintage Look 37 replica. Maybe it's because Vintage Look can not be properly translated in Chinese, or it's just convenient to call it a 37 replica. Luckily I watched your video. Learnt a lot, thank you so much!

1932 replica too. Of which, the Camel 2nd release is my favorite. It's a monster and feels great in your hand. If i recall correctly they were C-note lighters obtained by sending in C-notes from the pack. Think i still have about 10 of them in unopened RJR fulfillment company mailing envelopes with the sleeve and tin inside. I had a long list of Camel smokers who saved their C-notes for me! 😂🤣
I love that 32 Camel. I have about 3 of them. One was really dirty and I didn't want to mess with it since it was my only one. When I got a new one I took a wire wheel to it and it looks amazing now. Hard to let it go.
Had one of these given to me in 2002 ,even though i have never smoked! I never knew it was such a controversial model? I do remember the box said ' vintage series' though! This zippo is still in my kitchen drawer. I never part with gifts! I will have to get some fuel and see if it works? Never know when you may need to light some candles?
I like the newer ones better. May still try and get some of the others in the future sometime. Been an interesting day learning new things about Zippos. I also broke down and purchased one of the Thor's hammer Zippos like you have in a recent video. I learned that if you start watching something on Ebay, the seller sometimes offers you a few dollar discount. Thus I ended up getting one for $50 including shipping.
Also purchased a rose gold from 2020 that is limited to only 100 and was only available at the Zippo visitors center. Windy 360 design. I think it's #24. Looking forward to getting that one too.
Thank you for posting this!!! Always made me cringe hearing about 37 replicas on RUclips. Got to the point I quit watching reviews of vintage look zips because I couldn't stand the misinformation. Sadly...it'll probably never change. Kinda like the people that can't read "lift to fill" when they try filling their zippos. Or shoving a butane can nozzle in the felt hole...yes. I've seen that too. Anyway, thanks again bro

man, i agree with you, but Zippo's own site has this lighters under their "replica" section. its true it was never called 1937 replica (and always has been vintage series) but they dont even try to stop the confusion, so i dont really get mad about people calling those 1937 replicas. the 1941 lighters also differ a bit from the originals, but they're still called replicas. the look it's clearly inspired by the old 1937 lighters and they have a "replica style" bottom stamp. that probably sparked this misconception in the beginning, along with some videos made by uninformed people. let them fry in their own ignorance and we'll eat what comes out of the oven LOL
Except Zippo DID market them as a 1937. Between the time that the body style was released until the mid-2000s, it came from the factory with a sticker on the front reading: “ZIPPO Vintage Series 1937” And look, I know we can easily be pedantic and point out that it didn’t mention the word “replica” on the sticker, and no, it’s not an exact replica of an actual model from 193, but neither are the 1935 and 1941 replicas. Back when in 2015 when I purchased my 1941 Replica & 1935 Replica, Amazon also listed a 1937 Replica which as it turns out is the Vintage Look. I think this is where the confusion lies. I don't own a Vintage look lighter, but it seems like the difference between the 1935 & the Vintage look is the hinge on the 1935 Replica is outside of the case, while the Vintage look has the hinge on the inside of the case. Thank you for making the video for additional clarity.
There is a seller on eBay that sells Zippo factory 2nd cases with no insert (usually a few small scratches or blemishes, and while he doesn't say this in the product description I know it to be true) I bought a brass vintage-look case with the dashes from him for $6.75 (remember, no insert and that didnt include shipping) for a brass colored Zorro Ultimate Justice insert i bought originally to strip for parts, but the metal gasket bottom doesn't fit a Zippo insert and the thing is nice in general so i left it be. The case shipped in an envelope and was wrapped in a partial piece of some kind of Zippo branded cardboard. It had a small round $29 sticker on the lid and the orange saftey sticker on the back but was empty and had a couple small scratches on the front above the bottom left dashes but was otherwise brand new. I do wonder how he gets these in bulk from Zippo.

I got a great question. why do the cheap 10-27$ Zippos weigh a solid 0.88 oz MORE then the significantly more expensive painted 35-65$ ones? also.. why do the chrome and "solid" brass ones all weight the same? seems like shady practice. I'm sure zippo won't weigh in on this
Walmart Zippos they definitely seem thinner than a standard Zippo and to I feel like with these armor Zippos if they're only stepping it up the size from the Walmart in Zippos Zippos of shrunk so pretty much these days if you buy an armored Zippo you're buying an old school the regular one is what I'm thinking
Hey i came up with idea to make zippo insert more stylish with blow torch you can turn steel color to yellow/brown im curious if it is more durable than brass plated one Could you try this method because i dont have any spare insert to do it on my own

It should still work good! Keep the fuel nearby because if you're letting it sit for a while it will evaporate and be empty when you need it.
You are 100% correct. Mine has the exact same sticker on the box that you show. Vintage Series 1937.
