    I'm glad I'm not alone in how much Remembrance Day means to me, huge respect to your grandfather. The Douglas C54... what a machine and great history! With the controlled airspace I'm very much acquainted with that sort of situation, needing to listen out to the traffic currently on the ILS and keep that picture in your mind all the time of when you can expect to progress. I'm sure the airline passengers were waving frantically shouting "Look... it's Terry!" Great video as always

    Hi Terry I loved the video keep up the good work, I loved the mention of the skymaster there I also volunteered work on it just before covid and throughout helping restore the aircraft and mainly polishing some areas on the airframe and the engine cowls, glad to see this in your video as it makes me proud to have my part on it. Hope to see you out there one day clear skies sir!

    This is my first comment on your videos, and I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the dedication and effort you put into your often underrated videos (when it comes to views). I finished my PPL a couple of months ago, and your videos were always a great source of inspiration and motivation. For the first half of my practical training, I learned to fly the PS28. While I also enjoy the 172R, I'll gladly come back to the cruiser next weekend since I really like the flight characteristics of that smaller aircraft. Especially when flying alone, it's also a very cost-effective alternative, and it's way more agile than the old trusty workhorse Cessna.
    Best wishes and clear skies from Austria (LOWG)!

    I absolutely enjoyed this video. My sentiments are the same as your appreciation of those soldiers.
    My Dad came home from the South Pacific on a hospital ship. His best friend died on a bombing mission and is buried in the Arden’s cemetery and my one of my uncles was pilot of a B17 he flew out of Sudbury and got destroyed in the skis over Parcham Germany and became a pow although many of his crew were killed. It’s very sad and disturbing that in America and I believe the UK and many other nations the younger generations are trying to get rid of the very ideas these men fought and died to protect. Once the youth destroy the freedoms we have, all those men of the Greatest Generation will have suffered and died for nothing. Godd help us.

    Another great video Terry. One small bit of RT advice, always best to wait to be told to 'pass your message' before actually passing your message. In both situations in the video the controllers gave you other instructions (squawk x, just report your callsign) and you dived in with your life story 😂. It's only minor but may make the difference some time. Keep up the videos, you are a top ambassador for the joy of aviation in this country.

    • @ShortField
      @ShortField  10 месяцев назад

      Good point! However when I'm speaking to busy controllers I like to try and keep my interactions as minimal as possible, sometimes if you wait you can go to the back of the queue, I do agree with you though, my RT is not the best after 30+ years you'd think I would have been better :-)

    Finmere’s just one of those places I’ve never flown into despite it being very close to me too. Must do it!
    Luton though I’ve done loads of transits over and I find they will usually accommodate. Even had a transit before I had a transponder based in primary radar returns 👍. I too do wonder what the passengers think as we fly overhead or behind the landing aircraft

    Hi Terry,
    Happy New Year!🎉😊😊
    Finmere, not too far from me.
    In MSFS I enjoy landing King Air 350 and Dakota's into there - over the fence, short rw and lots of fun.
    Hear hear re AD, my family served, my grandad being a pro soldier in BEF etc fighting the a Waffen SS, two uncles SBS, dad 7th Hussars. These are troubling times too, more often than not our own governments are the real enemy.
    The Skymaster is a very cool aeroplane, the four engine the Dakota🤔🤔
    Can you make a trip to Popham, Gloucester and Wellsbourne so as to highlight possible problems with closure, housing development (I'm not sure what's happening at Old Sarum - has it had a stay of execution?).
    Keep em coming Terry😊👍💜

    Hi, in my understanding, pumping oil into the pan at the beginning isn't required operationally but only to measure the oil level (due to the oil otherwise sinking down to the wet sump). BR and happy new year

    • @paulrichardson6804
      @paulrichardson6804 10 месяцев назад

      Yep we do this also to check oil on the Aeroprakt A22 Foxbat with its Rotax 110 engine…safe and a required action, otherwise you can’t correct oil level

  • @jamesnoonan7450
    @jamesnoonan7450 9 месяцев назад +1

    The grumpiness with the controller on your previous flight wasn't particularly good airmanship. Particularly as it wasn't directly his fault for disallowing the zone transit. I understand it's annoying when you've pre planned a zone transit, and then you're re routed. However, good airmanship dictates you should always be polite and not what I can only describe as grumpy over the radio. I'm a full time flight instructor so maybe it's just me.

    • @ShortField
      @ShortField  9 месяцев назад +1

      I know, there were other things that day that contributed to my unprofessional attitude but I should not have deliberately conveyed my dissatisfaction to the controller. Thank you sir, great comment.
