As a French Canadian kid back in the 70s and 80s I had the privilege of watching Chris Nilan during his prime. What a well articulated man. I appreciate both his insight and candour.
Canadians are so awesome and aware, they poses insight and wisdom at a young age , quite well developed people, I agree with your comments about Chris, You are spot on !
Mr. Nilan calling Whitey, Mr. Bulger , "Old School " True Bostonian , Casey Affleck and brother Ben getting together would Nail it Or Donnie and Mark Walburg possibly doing a real Black Mass Type of Movie
In no way am I calling Mr. Nilan a goon but enforcers tend to have that reputation; Mr. Nilan does NOT fall into that category. His review, in my opinion, is 100% correct. I just recently watched Black Mass and nothing against the actors but I agree with Mr. Nilan, it's the casting that stinks; good actors but not the best fit for the characters and, again to defer to the critic, poor character development.
The whole story cannot be told in two hours. Nilan is right. The movie ends up being too superficial. A ten(ish) episode series on Netflix would be more appropriate in telling the story. I think anyways.
Chris what's up man I was thinking the same Mark Wahlberg Ben Affleck Real boyz from Boston.. My Top Irish gangster movies State of Grace/Sean Penn Gary Oldman Kill the Irishman/Ray stevenson Miller's Crossing/Albert finney What doesn't kill you/Ethan Hawke Running all night/Liam Neilson The Departed/Jack Nicholson... @@mr.blackhawk142 To old Habs fans from Montreal Chris Nilan is a Legend. Cheers
That's most movies today, they lack depth ! Good solid review, top to bottom !!!!
Really agree with the review, Johnny Depp was miscast. too old and looked like a fantasy character !!!
Yeah... he looked almost like a toystory vilain !
One of my favorite amarican players
A Morrocan??? L0L
Shout out to Rick Middleton's front teeth!!
Typical Nilan move. Cheap shot on a skilled player who never fights.
From one gutless clown to another....

Dead on review of the well documented but ultimately disappointing movie.
Yup, I saw BM a few years ago, and was very FORGETTABLE!
He knew him personally so he couldn't get into the movie.

Blackmass sucked. The departed was way better.
