    Alex,
    You used the wide angle 7" reflector on the Einstein. This is our least efficient. If you had used the 8 1/2" High Output reflector, or better - the new OMNI reflector, you could have gotten the same exposure at about 40Ws, and t.1 times of about 1/10,000 second. Note - Elinchrom durations are t.5, not t.1 like Einstein and Bron. So their "1/5000 sec" is really about 1/1600 t.1 - slower than the Einstein. My wifi was way slow so I didn't get through the entire video - plan to today.
    Nice work.
    Paul Buff

    Great video and fun test. One thing though: Trigger Trap's website isn't clear. There's no real explanation for what they make besides and app. Can you please tell us the model number of the trigger you used. There seems to be nothing similar on the site. Thanks.

    This was great. I thought considering he was a Broncolor user he was going to try to shun Paul C. Buff to make it seem like his investment was more worthy... but it seemed like he was almost saying Paul C. Buff is as good. I love my Einsteins. I never have to freeze action so this feature doesn't do much for me, but it's still dope to see a successful photographer not have bias to validate his own investments.

    Alex, I have the Einsteins and am super happy with them for studio work. I also have the Elinchrom Ranger Quadra with the A heads. I would like to try a similar test myself in studio but want to know how to setup the trigger you are using. Any info there? Cheers, Vin

    What about the ambient light vs shooting in very low light? Great video though.

    I think you should do this test with a Scoro pack or Move, because they're more "up to date packs" and the freezeng action features are astonishing there! .)

    Hello Alex,
    I see you had a problem with your DOF. I would say that was because the camera was too close to the glass with a big focal length what you were supposed to do is get a little further away and the further you go the more DOP you'll have. I realized that one day when I was shooting a water drop half of the drop was out of focus and when I moved further away it was completely in focus. I just think it would have been better if you did that for more accurate test.

    Just got my set of e640s so compact and light weight, compared to what ive used before, love your tutorials they help alot, i do have a question how would you set up your shoot when throwing liquid at your subject. Would you still use a trigger trap or wireless trigger, i only ask because I have someone help me throwing the liquid while i shoot results are good but help is not always available.

    We can't buy PaulCB strobes in Italy and it's hard to find Broncolor, too. What about Profoto?

    hay alex...why didn't you use 2 elinchrom heads at the B head on the top too..,tottaly 132 watts B head at back +132 watts B head at top..the test will be wise and get more flash duration

    How does having two different lights w/ different flash durations impact the shot? (for example 1 Einstein above the glass and 1 Alien bee 400 as background light?)

    In Sweden it's really hard to get anything other then Elinchrom of these brands, the common high end brand is Profoto.

    Alex mentions being able to stop motion with an Alien B400 (which is the only strobe I own) He mentions iot has limitations but possible.
    Can anyone shed more light (no pun lol) on this or direct me to more info
    thanks

    How about not using macro lens, but using a standard fixed 85mm for example?

    • @photigy
      @photigy 8 лет назад

      Will work with no problem, yes. There is not need a macro magnification on such shots

    • @vadimyakus
      @vadimyakus 8 лет назад

      Plus it should give you a much much better DOF if you use a standard lens with 50mm or 85mm focal length instead of any macro lens (with such narrow apertures).

    • @photigy
      @photigy 8 лет назад +1

      No, DOF does not depend on focal length. (yes, I know, very counter-intuitive). It only depends on magnification and aperture.
      If you'll shoot lets say a coffee mug the way that it will cover 90% of the frame, DOF will be the same with 50mm, 100mm and 150mm lens on the same aperture.

    • @vadimyakus
      @vadimyakus 8 лет назад

      Actually...
      DOF kinda directly depends on focal length too.
      Lets take 3 different lenses as examples: 35mm, 50mm and 85mm lenses all at F11.
      35mm lens will give you ~ 1,500cms of DOF at F11 from 3m distance,
      50mm lens will give you ~ 280cms of DOF at F11 from 3m distance,
      85mm lens will give you ~ 80cms of DOF at F11 from 3m distance.
      I know it from my 8+ years of practice of using these 3 lenses above and it is a fact.
      All macro lenses are even worst in regards of deep DOF regardless of the brand.

    • @ccc3
      @ccc3 8 лет назад +1

      He was saying that DOF is the same across the lenses at the same aperture when the object IS THE SAME SIZE in the frame. That means you'd have to get closer to the subject with shorter focal lenses, which, in turn, would bring the DOF down.
      What does slightly change is the distribution of the DOF (in front/behind subject), but the DOF stays virtually constant if the subject covers the same size on the sensor.
      For a crop sensor:
      50mm f4 lens at 2.5m from subject will give you 0.406m of DOF
      100mm f4 lens at 5m from subject will give you 0.404m of DOF
      200mm f4 lens at 10m from subject will give you 0.404m of DOF
