    This movie deserves more recognition. People who watched it says its good, but never recognized it as something iconic. It should.

    Michael Giacchino does amazing work in everything his done. "Up, Incredibles, Ratatoulille, Star Trek, Star Trek into Darkness, Super 8, Lost world, Dawn of the Planet of the Ape," and even in movies that aren't considered good like "Jupiter Ascending, Speed Racer, Cars 2. Even they had great scores.

    I don't know if Michael Giacchino is the next John Williams, but he is my favorite composer right now. I don't think it's good for people to compare him to John Williams, because it's too much to live up to. Giacchino is a great composer in his own right, he has his own style, if you like it, great, if not, don't listen. For people that say he doesn't have any memorable themes, they need to listen to Up again. And his new Star Trek theme gets stuck in my head all the time. One of the themes from dawn of the planet of the apes got stuck in my head too. With Jurassic World, everyone knows John Williams' theme, so you can't expect him to top that, but thought it was a pretty good score. I Can't wait for the new Star Trek, and anything else he composes.

    I watched this film in my English class at school, and that ending scene made me fall in love with this movie so much, and I have to say 10% of that credit is to the movie itself but Giacchino's score finalising the end to the story was breathtaking and I nearly cried in the class 😍 such an underrated masterpiece of a score imo

    Mike was actually asked to do Star Wars VII and turned it down. He said i want to watch the movie hearing Johnny's score, not mine.
    This just makes me that much more desperate to take any low level job to get on a JJ production, to befriend a 2nd Unit director to get hired as a PA id have to meet him in a yoga studio, bar, or be a blood relative....welcome to LA, city of half starved film students :P

      They should've obviously have asked Williams first... Williams is 80% of what makes Star Wars so great.

      I know I'm 4 years late, but I figured I'd throw this into the discussion anyway...
      Michael Giacchino was asked to score Episode VII (I mean, it is J. J. Abrams, after all), and accepted. However, then they got John Williams to sign on and they apologized to Giacchino. He was devastated, because it had always been his dream to score a Star Wars movie. They made it up to him in two ways: letting him play a stormtrooper in the movie (He's the one on Jakku in the opening scene that throws Poe on the ground) and having him score Rogue One.

    That's a bit harsh. He's not John Williams yet, but he's one of the most promising film composers out there and one of the few who understands the importance of themes and the power of a real symphony orchestra (free of bombastic synthesized percussion and non-stop string ostinatos). And if you don't think he has any memorable movie themes, you should rewatch Up.

    Sometimes it's not about the themes it's sometimes about what is playing when you have something else to focus on other than the music and for this and many other reasons Michael giacchino is more talented in scoring films

    What about Let Me In, Up, Ratatouille and Star Trek? Have you even heard one of Giacchino's scores? Sure, he's no over the top genius like John Williams is... Nobody is, except Williams himself....

  • @Jkikianis
    @Jkikianis 11 лет назад +1

    you all have no clue of anything you are talking about. Giacchino has amazing and memorable themes and in many ways is better than John Williams. While Williams has more memorable themes giacchino has more of a musical aspect to his scores and understands the importance of counter melodys and harmonies. The reason people like John Williams so much is because he has themes that are only memorable because of the evolutionary films they were attached with in the 70s and 80s.

    he's right though. He had chances to create memorable scores but failed to do so. Super 8, Star Trek, John Carter were all chances to make an iconic score but he kinda failed. he still is great though. Hans Zimmer is better imo

  • @Liquidzer0
    @Liquidzer0 11 лет назад +1

    He's no John Williams, not even close. He doesn't have one, single memorable movie theme I can name. Until then, he's just an over-hyped pretender.
