I'm not an off-road racer but it seems at the slower corners you have lots of rotation in the car causing it to oversteer and slow your pace down. Maybe calming the front end down in the slow speed corners could help? Also on the faster corners the rear of the car seems to also want to step out and spin the car around, which could be a lack of rear grip or , more likely, too much front end traction which could also suggest the front end is too reactive. Maybe there's some setup changes you could make to calm down the front of the car to make it easier to drive and give you confidence to push the car rather than hanging onto it. I'm not an off-road racer so I don't know exactly what to suggest to change but this is some advice from what I've seen in the on-road racing scene. Hope this helps! Keep up the exciting racing content!
Loving the series. Skills and consistency getting there! Looking forward to seeing you in more classes. Would love to see you stick with Schumacher for the next car, if only for some variety in the RUclips family.
Looking great Gavin! Your race driving has come along leaps and bounds! I haven’t managed to get to Cambs Rc for a while now as racing mostly at Herts. To solve your Alloy Washer Carrier mystery, the Pro Transmission kit comes with them so you would have fitted at same time as the Pro Transmission 👍🏻
15:40 - you get pulled along because if you can see them, you tend to follow their line, especially if you don’t have any intention of actively overtaking
As for a next car, go 2wd, it’ll teach you more and bring you on more as a driver, Associated 6.4 or a LD2 is a good choice. The Sch KD was designed for dirt/low grip If you want a cheaper option get a good used LD1 or a B6.2/3 as you can pick up a rolling chassis for £120-150
Associated B6.4 for next race car project? It's prolly the most famous 2wd race buggy at the moment around the world, so one could assume it would also interest many. -Rami
I'm a newer subscriber that joined up since the first RUclipsr race and I have been really enjoying your race coverage. You do well at taking us along for the learning too. Whatever RC you end up with next, please keep doing these :). In the last month I picked up a used B6.3 with some Factory Team upgrades, and a used scale spec style touring car. I ran my first novice class today with the TC and had a blast. The B6.3 has been a fantastic starter platform to help get me used to carpet tracks. They're also pretty tanky so they take some epic crashes and keep on going. 🍻
Hi Gav, if you get 🎉loose pin/arm, just put some super glue down the pin while it’s inserted in the arm and keep moving it until the glue dries, that’s a top racer’s tip from the 90s, don’t worry Gav it works a treat.😊 You’re crashing because you’re trying too hard 😊
Really enjoying your noob race content. Got the Cougar myself so it inspired me to go to my nearest race track today. Sadly they dont do a vintage 😢. So i had no choice but to order myself a cougar LD2 😂. Keep racing.
Enjoying your Journey buddy.....as I've learned over the past 3 years of my own Racing Journey, it's not always the upgrades that make the difference but Practice , Practice , Practice .....
Your car looked very good. One saying in racing is "race the track not the competition." I have made the mistake many times focusing on the cars in front of me and that doesn't work well for me. I am enjoying this series. I would like to see you drive a newer Associated 2WD buggy.
Every week I am waiting the next episode of noob goes racing. When watching, I actually get excited as if I am watching a f1 race. By the way I loved the new profile pic. 😊
I must say you drive really well, and thanks to following your advances in racing I have now also bought myself a Cougar 😂 Will try to keep it quite stock to start with at least 😊
Guy, great video love your car 😊 you have every upgrade possible. When I club raced my topcat and cougar in the 90s i only had a slipper clutch/ gold nova brushed motor 🤪 and saddle pack batteries 😮 i couldn't keep up with the 4x4 big boys so I focused on learning the track clean laps and lap times 😎 f**k**g great times.
Really enjoying this series. We race vintage here on an indoors off road track in New Zealand also. It’s great fun and the cougar is easily the most popular car. One question; the aluminium motor housing. Where did you get that?
Gavin, When you upgraded from the pop on/off ball ends to Schumacher screw on ones did you use the long ones or the short? A part number would be wonderful, I agree I’m done with the pop offs
Hi Gav new subscriber here, loving your work and these new racing vids essential viewing..! re next car latest Schumacher 2wd for me, direct comparison. Keep up the excellent work mate
I love the journey you’ve taken on the series by doing the race then coming back and evaluating/fixing and going back out again nice job! It’s something I don’t think about much just with my backyard bashers. By the way what’s up with the goggles on your photo icon? Maybe I missed something in another video
I think you got the wrong front tyres, they're not the low profile ones ( done that myself). I suspect you'll have far too much grip with silver rears and they'll probably last 5 mins on indoor carpet.
Personally, I'd stick with the Cougar Classic for a while yet. You have the car set up pretty well by the look of it, the rest of the speed you're seeking will come from the driver! I can see that with better lines and solid consistency you'd be as quick as the top guys. Not so good for RUclips content though I guess....
Yep you are correct but like you say, I need to keep the car content aspect moving forward for the show. I will keep the Cougar 100% ready to go and I will continue to take it racing as well. It will just not the main focus for a while.
@@RCKickschannel Sounds good, thanks for the reply, and like others I'm loving the series - please keep it coming. As a non-racer it's really interesting to see how both yourself and the car(s) get on!
@@branpresty You have to go much shorter if I remember correctly but I’m sorry to say I can’t remember. I know it’s shorter than any that come in the kit.
@@RCKickschannel no worries, I’m at full lock with the kit ones, I’m going to order a set of titanium turnbuckles. I’m sure if I go a couple of sizes down it will work 👍
@Blown Gasket but he never chashed as much I could not imagine running my mp10 without the built in servo saver arms that would be an expensive fail every meeting killing servos but when i ran my original cougar back in the 90s we always ran a kimbro servo saver and never had any issues like he is having with out one just saying
liking the race series, get a modern :)
Thanks Kevin, that’s kind of you to say. 👍🏻 A modern Team Associated is the viewers choice currently.
Is this not modern? Theres not an original part on it 😅 Hahah only joking loving the series it brings back alot of memories, keep it up 👍
@@thegarageluthier That is actually true lol
Love it!!!! Remember, slow is smooth and smooth is fast!
100% 👍🏻

the car is rear engine and alu gearbox dont help to keep the rear weight low so when the car is in a corner the rear keeps on turning by inertia.
Loving the series. Skills and consistency getting there!

Would love to see you stick with Schumacher for the next car, if only for some variety in the RUclips family.
Just wanted to say thank you for providing this pleasant viewing experience for all of us. From Texas
I think the race series you have been doing is really good. Makes me want to get to a track myself. Good job Gavin, thanks for sharing it with us all.
2 things Gavin ... Practice, Practice, Practice! 😁😁😁😁😁
Vintage and keep repping the UK! But use best electronics you can…. Not cause I think that is key to winning, just enjoy that style for your content.

Deffo go for the LD2 👍 be interesting to see them back to back. There a great car, but had to move mine on, vintage racing is more my cup of tea 😁

I’ve been looking at B6.3 used cars online today 👍🏻
This has been good to watch Gavin. I am gonna be using your idea of painting the body with smoke for my Kyosho Dirt Master.
Another great update on your racing journey 👍. Keep it coming!

The car looks good. You just need more practice gavin, simple as that, then the consistency will come
Loving the series would like to see what you can do with a 4wd

That’s a shame you couldn’t run it at all, even in a modern class.

One question; the aluminium motor housing. Where did you get that?
where do you get modern 2.2 wheels for that cougar
Gavin,
When you upgraded from the pop on/off ball ends to Schumacher screw on ones did you use the long ones or the short? A part number would be wonderful, I agree I’m done with the pop offs
Are there any original parts left on the cougar? 😮
Front lower bulkhead, rear bulkhead and driveshafts, that’s about it lol. A big fat NO to your question lol
Hi Gavin, been following this series. Great content. Can you do a video on the $$$ for the upgrade parts for this whole journey?
GOD NO! ;)
Both buggy and driver get better and better! Why does it say "Vintage 2WD" for the winner in the results of the first race - thought a ProCat had won.
The alloy washers come in the pro transmission as standard
So what did I do with my other set lol
@@RCKickschannel fit them too your pro cat lol
Try to make a Top Force fast and durable on a track, now THAT‘S a proper rabbit hole I can tell you! 😄
LOL for sure
Tamiya Trf would look nice.
I don't think I have enough money to race a TRF car or the time needed to find replacement parts

Would it be better to have the fail safe on the outer of the arms. So Marshall can pop it on easier
