I have followed your enjoyable and honest reviews for a while.. Today I put the deposit down on a cb650f black and red and now 5 hours later I see your review and it's 100% accurate. After falling out of love with motorcycles I wanted something to make me smile again. I can't afford a Street triple but the Honda today put some fun back I to bikes for me.
Hi Cager. Having returned to biking after a 15 year absence I test rode most of the 600 - 750cc models around at the moment. On the back of your review I went back to the CB650F for a second test-ride and ended up buying one. Having owned it for two months now and using daily for work (as well as Sunday fun rides) I have to say your review was spot on. This is a wonderful bike, and for all round use I couldn't find better. The build quality is brilliant and the handling just leaves a grin on my face every day. Thanks for a fantastic review - the CB650F is an awesome bike - and I now subscribe to your channel just to check out everything else you ride! Thanks from the UK!!!
Ellipsis Music i have to ask, since you have one... how many KM/L is she drinking for a getting to work everyday ? Whats your oppinion about costs of maintence? Thanks :)
Hey Daniel, thanks for the info I'm your height and 30 inseam also. I'm planning to get the 2018 cb650f but a bit worried about its height being at 31.9 is it too high? Is it comfortable at stops? You said the 2018 has a better riding position and less leaning forward, I hope you're right because I hate leaning forward as it hurts my back. Thanks again!
Test rode one. Plenty of oomph and loves revving, comfortable, light as a feather to handle, also well finished. Definitely a bit buzzy - even for this type of engine - at higher revs. Not for me, rev monsters might like it.
I recently bought one. Only 1200 miles on in so far but i have an idea of it. It's pretty dead under 4000rpm but from 4000 onwards the linear power gets get stronger and stronger. Above 7000 rpm it's instant throttle response and i find the bike very very fun, a proper naked race bike. The bike does lean me forward so with my short arms I will add risers for comfort. The comfy seat is low which I like with my short legs. Going back to the 1500-4000 rev range, the lack of power makes it ideal for the city. I get 53mpg UK average. Corners well, suspension is very good for me.The abs is good and it seems the tyres don't grip well in the wet under heavy breaking. The lack of the gear indicator doesn't bother me, I just put the revs where I want them (either for fun or fuel). I took the tracer out for two test rides. MT07 has a lot more power low and mid range a lot more! The mt gear box was horrible the clunky and the reach on the faired tracer version too long and sporty. I think it would be a more fun than the cb650f but harder to live with on a daily basis, it feels like a snarling beast, but one that could bite. The cb650f is refined and smooth and easy to ride, plus when you get the revs high it's a beast. One weird thing I never had on a bike before is the webbing near my thumb hurts when I ride, I think from forward lean into bars. Hopefully the risers sort this out
aviduke Hi mate I'm very interested in this bike and I'm just worried about mpg, is 53mpg you're getting is it with frugal riding or bit of both? I'm no speed freak in anyway but loves the thrill of the road is clear lol. What's the best mpg can you really get from this beast? Thanks
I would just like to say that the CB650 is *not dead* under 4000 rpm, it is just not twitchy when compared to the mt07. I would also hesitate to say that it doesn't have power down low, because that is not the truth. The truth is, that if you give it throttle to 4000 rpm, it will take you a considerable distance already. Take note I used the word *DISTANCE* because doing the same thing with the mt, it will rather take your bike *UP* --- meaning pop a wheelie. With that, I never had a problem myself in overtaking / needing for more power when I'm driving around sub 4k rpm. I think the argument that "The mt07 would be better at overtaking traffic" is stated by people who has limited motorcycle experience. Simply because either they are relying solely on the graphs, and they don't know what those graphs mean, or that they haven't ridden either bike. Weaving through traffic is not a difficulty I can assure you with the cb650. Coming from a 125cc bike, it can do that shit effortlessly, provided however we are cruising at sub- 70kmph. More than that, and the 125cc will have a problem. More than that, the honda can handle for sure because (1) you're not going to overtake at low rpm (2) you are already at speed to use the high powerband of the bike. With a lot of the reviews in youtube, I find one thing very peculiar. The ones that advocate that the MT is better, are the ones who mainly drive off road, and enjoy popping wheelies. While the CB advocates are those who are relaxed and just drive around casually. And that would be my conclusion. If you want a "fun" bike, with fun meaning popping wheelies and want to enjoy a faster 0-20 mph start, then go for an mt07. Which I would call a glorified dual sport bike. But if you want a more serious, long term bike, then go for a CB650f.
That is an awesome looking bike!, I've just passed my test a month ago & i'm hopping to get the CBR 650f next year!, so going to test ride one next week !
just a note, the footpegs are like that not only because of the vibrations but also for some water protection. rubber allows your feet don't slip so much keep up your awesome reviews
6:35 - Most 4 cylinder bikes will gladly sit at almost idle in 6th gear and be smooth. Even my FZ6 which has a lot less torque then most (and the 650 you're riding now) is happy at 60km/h even with a +1 front sprocket making the gearing taller. You should try that on a Bandit 1250 or a GSX1400 if you can find one, then open up the throttle, now that's some amazing torque.
Hi Cager, 2 years ago I view your review for this bike cb650f.. and month after that i get this machine.. tq for your review.. its very clear and its help me to make the right choice.. odo meter already 39k at now.. and its still feel fun to ride.
1:50 - There's no "previous" engine here, they're both still in production, there's still the Hornet 600 and the CBR600F available (like the faired version of the one you're riding here), they're higher end bikes with better suspension, brakes and more power, but it's a lot more rev-happy and has lower torque obviously. The same happened in Yamaha's range when they went from the FZ6 to the XJ6 (naked) and the FZ6R (called different in different markets). They went from 98 to 78hp, but more torque down low. However the frame went from aluminium to steel, brakes are worse, it's heavier etc. The only difference is, Yamaha dropped the FZ6 from it's line-up at that time (they had the FZ8 out already). This Honda 650 is aimed at the less sporty rider and that engine makes more sense for everyday riding then the 600.
Doesn't seem like 5 minutes since you were crouching in the same spot in the same store complaining about how Fuggly the mirrors were on the CB500F. How time flies.
I just checked local prices and the CB650F and the CB600F (Hornet 600) cost exactly the same. That's very interesting. There's 80 euros difference actually. I expected the 650 to cost at least 500 euros less. That's a lot more money then the MT07 sadly so even if it's the best bike in it's category, I think it's still overpriced.
The rider's stance is much more upright on the CB 650F, and there's a significant price difference between the CB and CBR in my country. So, if you don't do much highway riding, the naked is the one to go IMHO...
Hey Cager, you have started on a your NC700X, you have matured some as a rider and seem ready to step up a notch in power, speed and performance. Can you do a video on - what bike would you buy today, if you had a down payment and not other concerns?
Hi Cager on two wheels, firstly loved the review & test ride on the Honda cb650f .Got a quick question for you .In your opinion what bike would you get for a first bike out of the following : 1. Honda CB650F ,2.Honda CBR650F, 3.Honda NC750S and the Yamaha MT07. Thanks for your time and your help would be much appreciated . Keep up the good work, Happy testing.
Just road tested one of these yesterday. I felt too many vibrations and simply not enough low end torque. Having to keep a motorcycle in the higher rpm range in order to feel a nice pull when needed, is just not practical to me, at least in city riding. For a bike that, here in Canada after taxes and fees you’re looking at about $11000, you would expect a bit more. Great video though!
Love the streetfighters! From your comments on this CB650F, I think you would have really liked the yamaha FZ8. Pitty they stopped making it. I liked that color scheme of the red / white / blue / gold.
Hello again. In addition to waiting fora response from you, or anyone that would kindly give me their opinion, I would also like to ask why you have an NC750 instead of this one since you love it so much.
they didnt just lower it for the "power spread evenly" its also so that it can restricted to 47bhp in the uk and a few other European countries. the laws here say we cant restrict the bike by more than 50% of its full power.
hey cager, I just went to honda to get an offer for the CB650F, they told me why it develops less power than the Hornet, its basically to fit the new A2 licenses, what the guy said is that since the A2 license requires 48HP the original power of the engine cannot be more than double that, so if they kept the 100 HP from the hornet this bike would not be able to fit the new license. hope this helped :) Ride Safe!!
Boas!
Thank you very much Cager, awesome bike and awesome test-ride! Actually I think this bike (87hp) shouldn't be compared to the Hornet (102hp), as it rather comes in remplacement of the CBF 600 (78hp). Thinking in that way, the CB 650 F is a real improvement. I am myself the happy owner of a CBF 600 NA, and I am sure I would also enjoy riding a CB 650 F very much. These bikes are wisely made for a daily use : they are both reliable, easy to handle and fun to ride... Pure Honda spirit.
rockafella1690 There is actually a clue in the name, but maybe not the one you think :) ... The CBF 500 has been replaced by the CB 500 F, the CBF 600 has been replaced by the CB 650 F. That's why Honda don't call it "Hornet" (which is a successful label, so why stopping it?). According to the French motorbike press, there will also be a new Hornet in the coming years with a 800cc engine, as its main competitors (Yam MT09 & FZ8, Kawa Z800, Suz GSR). I hope they are right because the CB 650 F is a good replacement for the CBF, but a disappointing one for the Hornet.
MrKiddo Well, according to Honda's official press release it's a replacement and "turns the page on the Hornet". But what do Honda know, they only make it. 🙊
I don't know which I'm laughing at more, him laughing at high revs or his accent doing weird things in this video.. Can't wait to see Cager step onto a Ducati or Triumph Tiger sometime. So much for the extra bit from the Portugese channel :P
I'm from the US.. Why does the UK always have the best bike colors?? That White with red and blue was never even offered here! And for some reason, that color combination almost never is. I don't know about other brands, but at lease not in Hondas. I almost flipped when I saw the bike you were riding!! That black was ok, but THAT color combo is the best!!!
Hi. Good video. Have you tested CBR650F as well? If not are you planning to do it? I'd love to hear what do you think of cbr650f as I'm considering buying that bike. All the best. Keep posting videos. Tom
What would you say is a good step up from the duke 390? I like naked bikes. Low weight and good fuel consumption. But it also has to be fun. And lastly it must be useful. He he difficult questions I guess. Really like the looks of this honda. This or the er6n?
Hi Cager, thanks for the great video. I am looking for a mid range bike after many years of not riding. I would use mostly on back roads in Spain, and in city. Hope not to have to upgrade bikes after two years. Would you recommend the CB500F or CB650F? Also which is better for city, MT07 or CB650F? Would you go for Suzuki 650SV over these? Would greatly appreciate your advice. jmh
Do you think the torque at high rpm is enough for good sensations for a beginner ? And can you ride this way respecting speed limits ? (90,100kmh for roads like you ride out of town) Thank you for the review !
No doubt the stability comes from the rather long wheelbase of 57". Probably 2 to 2.5 inches longer than the typical 600cc machine, It's a great compromise for the real world. Great and very amusing reviews, I live in California...known for it's great roads...but you may have us beat. Also, there are few places where the traffic is as heavy as I see in your videos, where you could ever get away with driving as fast as you do. You would end up in jail and probably on some terrorist no fly list. keep up the great work. Very informative and fun !!
7:05 apanhei uma multa precisamente nesse sitio precisamente pelo mesmo motivo, passei o sinal e dei-lhe gás, resultado fui mandado parar mais a frente porque havia radar ao pé do colégio e levei 120€ multa.
You mentioned you also rode cb500 and nc700. I HAVE A QUESTION! Which bike has the SMOOTHEST gearbox? Once I bought a bike, 1997 Yamaha Seca2. The gearbox was so sticky and clunky, even grindy that sold the bike after two months. Thanks.
i was thinking about getting this bike but alot of other reviews have said its got alot of vibration and not good quality .has anyone else got this bike that can vouche for it being good ?.
Hi Cager from the UK. Fantastic review. Have just test-ridden the CB650F ABS as a return to biking after 15 years and absoloutely loved it. Watched your review to see if I was right and it looks that way. It's a bit pricey but people tell me you pay for the Honda build quality...do you think it warrants the money? (£6399 in the UK). Thanks.
Hi Applecorp. I ended test riding seven bikes then ordered the CB650F (pick it up Sunday to get the '15' plate on it). I just couldn't find another bike that gave me the same big grin factor...even the Hornet! Looking forward to picking mine up next week and getting out on the road. Thanks for your comments - all noted!
applecorp Hi applecorp, I test rode a '10' plated low mileage Hornet, a Kawasaki Z750, a Triumph Street-triple, a Yamaha 600, a Kawasaki ER-6N and of course the CB650F. The Kawasaki Z750 was horrible, and absoloute bitch to corner. The Hornet was great but it just didn't click. The CB650F just felt 'right'? I never planned to buy brand new but with 0% finance it seemed too good to turn down. How have you found yours? High points v low points? I'll be using mine most days for commuting for work but also for a weekend blast.
Hey Cager, what would you recommend as a 2nd hand bike after first passing my test. I'm looking at a cb600 Hornet. What do you or any of your viewers think? Great videos btw. Regards from England.
I bought a 2008 Hornet as an "almost" first bike, and all I can say is that it's great. Almost everything Cager says about this CB50F applies to the Hornet: easy throttle up to 7000rpm (after that it gets wild), light, low seat, nimble easy steering, stable at cornering, and... when you feel confident to rev it high, the engine really shows the 106hp "R" origin, screaming it's way in a never-ending acceleration. Just love it :)
Zooumberg A Yamaha FZS600 Fazer. It's my first bike, a 2000 model. Not too powerful, exciting enough to keep you going for a few years and forgiving enough to not kill you immediately. They're widely available, so affordable second hand, and reliable like any Yamaha. You should probably get the 2002 model, with the more modern headlights.
Daniel Ferreira I am on the same position.... coming from a scooter for a "real" bike, have been looking for late hornets, but I am now considering this new 650f... though I am a bit disapointed by the fact that it doesn't have as the hornet did, aluminum chassis and inverted front forks. Probably it won't make any difference, but it is going back on tech... I am not decided yet.
Cager, are u comfortable enough to review supersport like honda cbr600rr, yamaha r6 or kawsaki zx6r 636 or even the ninja 300? i really would love to see a review and your opinion, not sure if you already have one supersport review.
CagerOnTwoWheels Hope you can get one, Good luck. Off topic question: Do you advise getting a 125cc for a starter or can i get a 300? i want to swap to a 600cc later. As you know (here in portugal) we can only have a 30kw+ power on a bike when we have our license for 2 years or when we are 24 years old. Maybe 125cc to a 600cc is to big of a jump so maybe the 300 is better?
zlM If you decide to get a 125, it has to be a 2 stroke if you want enogh power. This being said a 300 has less fuel consumption and about the same power. I would suggest not to get a 250cc since you'll get bored easier and some125 2stroke could kick your ass. Riding a 2 stroke would teach you to rev the bike though, 'cause it has more power at high revs and really much less at lows, in a weird way similar to 4 cylinder-bikes. For an everyday bike, the 300 is the best choice, if you want a snappy, "quick cornering" bike, then you might also consider a 125.
You should really test S1000R...it will have stronger wouuuu effect then any bike that you test so far...including SD1290 :) And when i say Wouu effect i don't mean only for speed/acceleration but for any other aspect of riding...
Do you think this would be a good bike restricted at 25kW and with a slightly louder aftermarket exhaust for a beginner? I am considering this one along the Yamaha XJ6 and the Suzuki GSR750. Which one do you think would be the best one?

Ellipsis Music i have to ask, since you have one... how many KM/L is she drinking for a getting to work everyday ?

Loko One how is the maintenance cost of the cb650f?
Hey Daniel, thanks for the info I'm your height and 30 inseam also. I'm planning to get the 2018 cb650f but a bit worried about its height being at 31.9 is it too high? Is it comfortable at stops? @@estoylaroca off road?
It's a nice bike. It's totally planted like the 500F which i'm currently riding.
All the new Honda's have easy-mode activated on purchase.
DUDE this review made me go and buy one of those year ago :)) thank you so much....it is worth the money!!!
i prefer the looks of cb650f rather than cbR650f
Same.
Same
+1 for the aesthetics of the standard bike...the CB650F
Sell your house and grab one, if you're worried about the rain...buy an umbrella!
That is an awesome looking bike!, I've just passed my test a month ago & i'm hopping to get the CBR 650f next year!, so going to test ride one next week !
Love his detail in this video "the brakes are single thingy"
Thinking about getting this bike as my first big one, currently have the cb125f and it handles a dream
Rode this today and i fucking loved it , way better than the MT7 in my opinion. Way to go Honda!

That's wat she said
Thanks, I greatly enjoy your reviews. You are having fun and you are closer to my skill than the typical racer/journalists.

perfect review. it's exactly how you say it is. No more, no less. much bigger difference from the 500 than i was expecting.
Engine-wise a lot different from the NC750S I ride, but similar in that it looks like a great all rounder. Super smooth Honda fours are A1 in my book.
Yamaha doesn't import MT-07 to Thailand, so I decided to choose this one as my first bike. Thank for this awesome review.

Try a Z800, it's a direct competitor to Yamaha's MT-09 which I remember you enjoyed :)

Great review. Nice knowledgeable guy out enjoying himself. You should be on commission as you are def helping Honda sell these bikes! Cheers, C.
Very smooth and controllable, So Honda... easy to ride...

IronicRebound yeah we don't get the naked version in America
Jessa Phillips just saw that the cb650f is coming to the states.
hey cager, I just went to honda to get an offer for the CB650F, they told me why it develops less power than the Hornet, its basically to fit the new A2 licenses, what the guy said is that since the A2 license requires 48HP the original power of the engine cannot be more than double that, so if they kept the 100 HP from the hornet this bike would not be able to fit the new license. hope this helped :)
Ride Safe!!
This bike is a direct replacement for the Hornet. As is the CBR650F a direct replacement for the outgoing CBR600F. The clue is in the name. 😁
rockafella1690 There is actually a clue in the name, but maybe not the one you think :) ...
Getting mine in december I can't wait !
Great video, once again. Thanks for all that input. One question: does this cb650 worth the price diference to the MT07? Abraço
Another great review! If someone said they will give you this bike or the xj6, which one would you choose?
Hi Cager, If it becomes available, can you also do a test ride and review of the CBR650F seen at the start of this video?
Thank you
I'm from the US..
Thanks Cager for this useful nice review of the Honda CB650F.
Could you also do a review of the Kawasaki W800, an old-style bike?
Hi. Good video. Have you tested CBR650F as well? If not are you planning to do it? I'd love to hear what do you think of cbr650f as I'm considering buying that bike. All the best. Keep posting videos.
Tom
Hi can I ask you which you prefer out of this and the XJ6 Diversion. Choosing between them. Thanks
Cager, we love your motorcycle reviews. You have a good style and you are very easy to listen to - well done. Which bike will you review next?
Would greatly appreciate your advice. jmh
Видео понравилось.Именно так мне нравится ездить -не спеша без рывков,чтобы мотор работал ровно без напряжения.
Awesome review dude. I'm looking into this bike as a starter. By the way, what country do you live in?
I try both bike and finish to buy the cb650f its lighter, the position more upright and to do slow manuvre its easier
Thanks! Excellent review - clear, nice intelligent detail and fun! I want one.
How is this bike in terms of passenger comfort? can two people ride for an hour or two without much problems?
CB650 vs FT-07 what is a better buy for all rounder commuter, touring and fun?
2014 ninja650 or 650f here in the city of Miami? And does the 650f requires more shifting of gears through out the city than the ninja?
You mentioned you also rode cb500 and nc700. I HAVE A QUESTION! Which bike has the SMOOTHEST gearbox?
Once I bought a bike, 1997 Yamaha Seca2. The gearbox was so sticky and clunky, even grindy that sold the bike after two months.
Thanks.
So comparing this bike with NC750X on longer distances which one is better? I guess NC has lower consumption...
hi Cager is possibly to do yamaha mt -125 review? I know u are honda guy but...?
Hi Cager, can't decide between CB650F and Street Triple 675? Any advice please.
cager..u r forget that when the new 2019 comes out.i know i cant wait
i was thinking about getting this bike but alot of other reviews have said its got alot of vibration and not good quality .has anyone else got this bike that can vouche for it being good ?.
Will the CBR be easy to ride for a short rider, inseam 29", height 5'3"? I was super comfortable on a triumph bonneville.
Yamaha MT-07 would be a better second bike, if you're coming from a 125
Im curious how is comparable to cb600f k10 with top speed and the horse power :S 650f seems to have lower hp
Cager on Two Wheels - V.P. how does it compare to the fz6r ?
Review is very nice as always but now I wanna go out cycling :o where is this place. It is perfect for cycling
I'm waiting for dem sharp colors in the u.s.
Cager (or anyone else)...between this or the yamaha xsr700 which is the better of the two?
Buying a used 2018 with 3500 miles. Can't wait to pick it up. Gonna put on a rear fender eliminater n enjoy the hell out of it.! Lol
Great, informative review. Really like your enthusiasm!
Great test, and very informative.. Enough to make me go and a get a CB650 :-)
John Owen you still got this bike? how is it?
Great review as usual, It would be awesome if you could do a review of the Kawasaki Ninja 300
would u advise to buy a new Suzuki sv650 or this one ?
Cager, are u comfortable enough to review supersport like honda cbr600rr, yamaha r6 or kawsaki zx6r 636 or even the ninja 300? i really would love to see a review and your opinion, not sure if you already have one supersport review.
CagerOnTwoWheels
Hope you can get one, Good luck.
You should really test S1000R...it will have stronger wouuuu effect then any bike that you test so far...including SD1290 :)
And when i say Wouu effect i don't mean only for speed/acceleration but for any other aspect of riding...
I'm confused- honda chap said it has abs and also around 99/bhp. Also stainless steel exhaust should not rust right
Inquisitive It has abs. Only 91 bhp. Its a honda, it wont rust.
They make a cb650r that looks pretty cool too not sure what the difference is though
Please ride the cbr650 and say wich bike is better. Greats from germany.
Any chance to test the CRF250l cager? Or the M
great review
can you get this on a a2 (UK) if you restrict it?
Cager come to sweden!
I found this bike to be the least interesting in this category, but you managed to convince me that it's worth the test ride. :-)
Wierdly every time I'm curious about a bike I look at you channel first, and there we go, you have tested it! :P (Good luck with dubai also)
Do you think this would be a good bike restricted at 25kW and with a slightly louder aftermarket exhaust for a beginner? I am considering this one along the Yamaha XJ6 and the Suzuki GSR750. Which one do you think would be the best one?
You wouldn't be able to restrict it to 25kw
How do you the handling, ergonomic and power compare to cheaper kawasaki z800?
where is this place, cager?
Very nice Review, may i ask which town is this ?
Sintra, Portugal
some lines of the tank looks a bit the same as the CB500x
