One of the best videos about APU on RUclips. Very well explained. Can you please make about when APU flap/door does not close after shutdown and what can be done to close it? Thanks.
Depends why it won't close. 1) If its a mechanical problem then only engineering can solve it 2) if its got stuck because you shut off batteries before turning the APU off then you can turn the batteries on to close it 3) if its an ECB problem then ECB reset can help too
I have a doubt... when you said @1:01 "this is basically a packs off take off" but , In packs off we are not using APU bleed or engine bleed. If Packs are on , then, APU bleed should be considered to be put ON. It says in FCOM " consider selecting PACKS OFF or APU BLEED ON" The way you have worded that is very confusing.... did you mean to say "This is in case of PACKS ON takeoff?
Is the APU fuel pump shown in the ECAM fuel page ? Because what I saw in my flight-sim that inspite of all the fuel pumps and cross feed valve was off APU was still running and the left tank fuel level was decreasing with time.
Thanks sir for valuable information about APU I have one query, can we start APU from External power or from Engine power with Bat 1 & Bat 2 switch OFF.
Hello Sir. Thanks a lot for all your extremely detailed and comprehensive videos. Is the information provided by your videos almost all that an A320 pilot has to know about its systems or do they have to know a lot more? So like is the info in your videos exactly what we learn in Comp. based training of 320??
What are the causes of the collapse of the auxiliary power unit since when we run engine number 2 through the auxiliary power unit we notice its collapse ... and hear a relatively strong sound
Whenever the APU runs, it runs at constant speed only more or less and hence doesn't need the CSD like IDG. The core is connected directly to the generator. Whereas the engines turbines run at different N1/N2 values hence need the CSD and hence the compensation is required.
Sir I have some doubts regarding APU. I will be very thankful if you will clear the doubts and I have you will consider. 1.how apu maintain constant speed to prevent fluctuation of frequency 400 hz. In engines there is csd which maintain constant speed irrespective of engine RPM /altitude? . 2.is there provisions to start apu from external power (ground) if there then how?.
There is a gearbox on the shaft of the APU too and the ECB will take care of the speed since its all electric in nature. You can start the APU on external power because the external power is connected to the aircraft electrical system only, so its not a problem. However there are no external controls to start the APU, it has to be started from the cockpit controls only.
You are wrong with the apu. Apu is turned off after the engines are running. If the apu bleed air and engine bleed air are running you will get a dual bleed warning. It acts as a backup inflight but it is shut off it has to be turned on during emergency and the electrical power is provided by both the engine generators during normal operation. Apu takes fuel to be kept running fuel that costs a lot..
The description of what is wrong my friend? I would want you to be more specific so that I can rectify the mistake as a lot of viewers are watching the same. From my end, I have not been able to locate the errors you are talking about as of now. Thanks.
Loved the videos. Wonderful explanation. Could add limitations and abnormal stuff but really nice.

Hi sir. This is very useful and informative video for aviation students.
Thank you!
Thanks for your efforts!!

Yes you're right. Thank you for correcting.

Yes it's shown
With APU being off if someone by mistake puts APU bleed ON with engines running will engine bleed valves be closed automatically by BMC ??
No
@@poh Thank you Sir 🙂
Thanks sir for valuable information about APU

We cannot start APU anytime with battery switch at off.

There is a lot more than this actually. This is just going to help you get foundation to begin 320.
What are the causes of the collapse of the auxiliary power unit since when we run engine number 2 through the auxiliary power unit we notice its collapse ... and hear a relatively strong sound
There is no collapse and all. It is power transfer. Whenever you shut any engine, the APU takes over that side immediately.
@@poh
How we solve this problem?
Its not a problem. Just a change over of power. What is the problem?
Thank You sir for this info.. I'd like to know if APU is considered as generous goods in case of shipping APU by air
No it isn't if it's uninstalled with all fuel and oil removed. It's then just a machinery which is transported.
@@poh ok sir but what if the fuel and oil is not removed.. Which type of DG can it be classified?
Why we put battery ON position while running APU ?
While APU is running you don't need the battery. Only for start you need the battery.
How much time it will take to open APU inlet flap.
5-7 seconds
it would have added more value to the video to show what happening on the ECAM.
Hi can you please tell what type of engine is a320 apu, is it free turbine turboshaft?
@@poh The FCOM Calls it an engine??
Yes it's a single shaft gas turbine engine
What is minimum battery power required for Apu start?
It isn't mentioned in the FCOM as far as I know, but having said that you'd anyway not depart with less than 25.5 V.
Hii capt. Can we start APU with batteries off and external pwr cart connected ?
No
@@poh But as you mentioned in the slides it can take power for starting from battery or from ground service. so what could be the reason ?
To open the APU flap and ECB power up test. Follow on Instagram page there is a video on the same.
@@poh thanks will do.

Dear sir Thank you so much for your valuable reply
Hope it clarified, you're welcome!

ECB is the same thing that FADEC?
ECB is for the APU and FADEC is for the engines, however function of the computer is their respective management.
