    Blake, you will LOVE this! I am in Mexico and I have an indoor, outdoor Laboratory, and the rats found there way in. I have the same issue about poison because the Red Foots will eat a dead rat if it dies in their cage, and same with our three dogs. If they found a dead or dying rat, it could become a snack. So, I use regular old traps, that I reset daily when needed. But my best solution was not removing a local Yucatecan Boa Constrictor from the area. She is fat now, and I have not had a rat in MONTHS!! She is about a yard and a half, tame as she can be and very helpful. I imagine you could have a Rat Snake of some kind, as long as it could not get into any bird cage. Good Luck.

    I have just this week caught two mice in my house. We have these kill bar traps by Victor that have a bait hatch on them so in order to get the bait, they have to get their nose under the cover and when they do, the kill bar comes down on their heads. My two three year old cats alert to mouse activity in my kitchen, I set up the traps baited with the peanut butter from reesees peanut butter cups, and gate off the kitchen with a baby gate so the cats don't get their noses in it. With the peanut butter from the reesees, it is almost immediately that the mouse is caught. I highly recommend Shawn woods' channel here on RUclips. He does mouse trap Monday videos that I'm sure could be of some help on the best kind of methods that are safe to use on your ranch. I hope my tips have helped.

    We use baking soda mixed with peanut butter or oatmeal (equal parts no water). Rodents can't throw up and the baking soda is what kills them.

  • @daemonember
    @daemonember Год назад +2

    You can get the rat teeter totter where you put peanut butter on the far end and when they go they fall. You could get a barn cat or 3. You have terriers and they would be good little hunters as well. But yeah I would get a few cats and keep them to that area for now before giving them more range.

    Mix peanut butter with some sugar and a good amount of baking soda (NO water). Rats love the stuff, and when they eat it and it hits their stomach, the baking soda expands and kills them. Apparently rats can't burp. It works, and they don't build up a resistance to it. Adding extra salt makes them go for water next, and then.....boom! Put the bait into lengths of PVC pipe, or a plastic bottle with both ends cut off to keep it as dry as possible.

    I recently purchased a couple Kat Sense Covered Rat & Chipmunk Traps from Amazon and they work better than any rat trap I have had before. They are a simple snap trap but have a tunnel around it that protects the bait from rain and other animals. I just got them two days ago but have killed two large rats. With the tunnel system they didn't even make it to the bait.
    I filled the bait cup with peanut butter and a peanut.

    Hey Blake so I’ve had a problem with rats in the past at my old job which was sort of a farm. The rats would dig underground tunnels so most likely even if you put concrete bags around they’ll try to find a way in. But who knows maybe the rats out here are different idk man. The best way to get rid of them is by putting actual traps that kill them instantly in front of the holes and pathways.

    Cotton balls and essential oils..rats hate the smell of
    peppermint oil, citronella, and eucalyptus. Place in deep holes, or even in debris that your turtles cannot access.
    The down part is turtles also dislike strong smells.
    So drop the cotton balls in holes the rats have dug and it will drive them away.

    You will never fend off the rats by filling their holes so save your concrete! The only way is to build rat proof cages! Setting traps outside the cages is way safer than poison, IMHO. Several of the DIY traps on RUclips work well and can catch several at once without having to be reset. You will never get rid of them all because they just keep coming so look at it as how to stem the tide of rats and keep them out of your cages by using wire on the bottoms even if you put dirt on top of the wire for turtles, etc. If they can’t get inside your cages then feed on the ground won’t matter. Otherwise, it will attract them. Keeping your feed and bedding in rat proof areas and in rat proof containers, too, is essential. Then consider some outdoor cats which of course, present additional problems with your birds so a rat terrier dog might be a better choice and taught to focus on only the rats and mice. I hope this helps and these suggestions also work against other predators such as raccoons and opossums and even snakes!

    Insofar as a cat, not all are great ratters! I’ve had many cats throughout my life and the 2 that ruled ratting were - a pure bred Bengal cat and a rescue that’s part Maine Coon. The latter one being a long haired cat would not likely do well as an outdoor only cat. The Bengal is a short haired breed. My cats rarely bothered the wild birds and although they did chase the squirrels, none were caught. If you’re worried about cats bothering or attacking your other animals, if you raise them from kittens with the other animals, they most likely won’t bother them.

    You can get rid of all the junk pile so they can’t hide and move it out somewhere else and then a lay gravel down everywhere else besides the enclosures

    Peanut butter and baking soda balls. The rats eat it and then die. It’s safe and effective.

    You do a great job keeping things clean or you would be completely infested with rats and mice. It is a testament to to the care you give to the animals. It doesn't take long for them to take over when someone doesn't pay attention. Great job!

    Co2 BB gun will do it because spring loaded BBs won't kill big rats
