2 - 2HgO (s) in presence of heat gives = 2Hg (l) + O2 (g)
3 - 2Cu2S (s) + 3O2 (g) in presence of heat gives = 2Cu2O (s) + 2SO2(g)
4 - 2Cu2O + Cu2S in presence of heat gives = 6Cu(s) + SO2 (g)
5 - Roasting - ZnS + 3O2 heating strongly in presence of air gives = 2ZnO (s) + 2SO2 (g)
6 - Calcination - ZnCO3 heating strongly in absence of limited supply of O2 gives = ZnO + CO2
7 - Reduction - ZnO + C (coke) gives Zn + CO(g)
8 - MnO2 + 4Al gives 3Mn(l) + 2Al2O3 ( s) + heat
Beside carbon(coke) to reduce metal oxide to metals sometimes displacement reactions can be used.
9 - Thermit reaction -
Fe2O3 + 2Al(s) = Al2O3 + 2Fe (l) + Heat
10 - Electrolytic Reduction
2Nacl (l) - 2Na + Cl2 (g)
At cathode : Na+ + e- = Na
At anode : 2Cl- = Cl2 + 2e-
And
2Al2O3 (l) = 4Al + 3O2
At cathode - Al3+ + 3e- = Al
At anode - 2O- = O2 + 4e-
