Prom is this Saturday for me and I planned on wearing my straight wig because it looks “more elegant” but you really just made me change my mind. I told my mom I wanted to look “different” but I was gonna have white nails, a sleek low straight ponytail, etc like all the other black girls. But nah, you just reminded me how pretty my natural hair is

@@confusedhomosapien6231 genetics does play a big role but so does hair maintenance. I'm in the middle of cutting out my daughter's fairy knots, and let me just say.....ITS A LOT OF WORK!!! For some ladies like myself and my daughter ( I have a combo of all type 4, and she's 4b/4c) it take time and patience. Once I stop being so rough with our hair and learned what our hair needed, it went from shoulder length hair to mid-back length hair. I learned our hair doesn't flourish with silicones and sulfates, whole others can use whatever they want and still have booty length hair. I learned to make homemade products ( adding emulsifiers humectants preservatives and thickeners). I make them during my down time, and right before the product is empty, I make sure to set some time to the side the make another batch.
Yes, genetics is a huge part, but us taking the time to know what our hair needs, and how we can manage our time effectively to give our hair what it needs, plays a big part too.
