also you could run some metal perforated plumber's tape for cheap to strap down the bucket more.

I have the Job Megaflow with the tethered float which installs at the bottom of the tank. They can play with that float as much as they like...😁 If your current one quits, I suggest looking into the tethered one.

This valve has the option of being at the bottom of the tank and it is during the grazing season but during the winter I am afraid for some reason it will freeze if it's submerged and that would destroy the valve.

I'd second running a strand of hot wire over the valve or if not put a 2x12 with some cleats fasted to the tank over the top I'd think would work better than the upside down bucket they'll flip over.

It's my experience that when I try running poly wire over a tank that someone gets tangled up and the poly wire ends up on the ground. Now when I say this keep in mind there is just under 40 calves in our herd. That said, I feel a lot better having something beside poly wire protecting valve. If the valve breaks I am out there daily watering manually and that sucks! lol

Just a thought. May take some rebar with a hook bent on one end and drive into the ground on each side of the bucket. Letting the hooks drive down snug against the top of the bucket. It should keep them from flipping the bucket up from the front. It may work, may not just a thought.

@Cornbread & Bees First I must say it's nice to see you here on my farm channel too but if I remember correctly you run a farm too, is that right?
I like your suggestion, with the frozen ground we are having I can see this working. The only issue is it's so damn cold (13°F now) I shut the water off to stock tank yesterday and gave the cows access to the creek. Luckily so far though not one cow has tried to flip the bucket up.

Just run electric wire over the top of the float valve 7000 volts will stop that monkey business.

Will it? It's my experience that there is always one that gets tangled up then there is nothing protecting valve. Keep in mind though that there is just under 40 calves that get thirsty too and they aren't all fully trained to poly wire just yet.
