My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

Hey! Try flipping the shelf around use the small hook where the book is supposed to go to hook on the bed!
Slotting it lower where it was supported by the mattress was the trick 🍾
As s Swede it is always strange to see all IKEAs all over the world. When I was a kid, in the 1950ties, there was only ONE! It was in the small town of Älmhult where Ingvard Kamprad started the whole thing.
And now it's a global phenomenon
My brain first registered this as, “To Ikea for champagne” 😂 ❤
I read as "TOO champagne for IKEA" !
😆😆🥂
Haha, me too 😅
You were right to leave the opened box - often people have removed a part they needed to repair their own.
Whew
Love the videos, Jay, sending a little support!
You're the best! Thank you so much 🥂🥰
Back in 2019 the day before I left Europe my friends handed me car keys and sent me to Metz for the day (I was at Ramstein afb). So I got to take big American van to Metz to see the cathedral. I might have ended up in a pedestrian walk way with that van! Anyways as I was leaving I was like "I wonder if there is an Ikea around here?" There was!! So i got to go to the Ikea in Metz and walked around. Then I drove back to Germany and went to the Ikea In Kaiserlautern and had a Waffle from the waffle bar! It was my day of "2 countries and 2 Ikeas!" :D
That's an epic Ikea day 😆
Gotta love fun little day excursions with your pals. Still, some champagne would’ve been nice. 😂🍾
Agreed 😆
I love reading in bed. It's my nightly routine to fall asleep, also when I wake up randomly in the middle of the night. I recommend getting a kindle though over lighting and physical books. Less strain on the eyes in the dark and less disruptive if you have a partner sleeping next to you. Also, they're more comfortable to hold with one hand.
Best of luck!
I do have one, a recent gift, I keep forgetting to use it. I have some physical books I want to re-read first though
@@JaySwanson Either way, reading is great and a great way to wind down for bed.
Word of the Day: Counterforeshadowing
😆
It’s so much fun trying to track the whereabouts of a rare item.
A quest!
Never thought my first watched video about Champagne would be including a visit to Ikea. But, who am I to complain - I'll take it!~
Haha, with zero bubbles to be seen 🥂 I'll see what I can do for you next time
I like an IKEA trip, I have the same type of bathroom cabinet Puxan was looking at except slightly bigger, I can get loads of stuff in it!
It looks so good!
@@JaySwanson I just realised how bad the typos were in my post 😩😂 , now amended!
We need to talk about France's proclivity for push button espresso machines. Drives me up the wall.
It's awful 😆
As you were shopping, I was shouting, go to the gardening section and look for a balcony planter/flower box! Or alternatively, get a wall mounted spice rack (fits 2-3 books perfectly, I bet). You could screw it onto the wall or the bed railing. Probably the most elegant and space efficient solution. OR, use some strong double sided tape for the rack that you purchased.
Bistro suédois sounds fabulous!
They know how to sell
I have always read in bed. When I was little, I had a light that hooked onto my headboard. When I started dating my now husband, he bought me an Itty Bitty Book Light that I used for years. I have used a Kindle for the past 11 years and love that too-NEVER thought I would.
I'll see how long it takes me to get back in the habit 😆
Here's a horror story for you: I leave my dogs in the car a few times if I have to run in real quick to the stores until one of friends got his truck stolen with his dog inside. Never got the dog back. :(
Wowwwwww, that is a horror story
Hi Jay! This video makes me want to go to IKEA. I know you already bought the light but make sure you get bulbs that are bright enough. Some of the IKEA lights use very low wattage bulbs and therefore very dim light. I just went to the eye doctor yesterday and he advised should read with the equivalent of no less than a 60 watt bulb. Glad you got Cooper into the store.
It ended up being very bright haha. I need to diffuse it a bit
Full disclosure - I've never stepped into an IKEA until this February in Paris! Too funny because the one here in Minneapolis by the Mall of America opened up 20 years ago... I didn't hate it and I was able to make my rental property doable. I was also tempted by the hotdog but it seemed too early in the journey.
The hot dog is definitely skippable 😆
Puchan!(spelling?) - good to see you again! Looks like a fun road trip!
Pushan officially, Puxan professionally 🥂
Well, that was a fun shopping trip! Alway good to get out of town for a short time. Does France has a Container Store? Baskets there. Enjoy your new reading experience.
There's gotta be. Muji at a minimum
Loved this vlog! Love IKEA.
Thanks!
Cooper porte un imperméable de la même couleur que le jaune du magasin Ikéa !!
C'est pour ça qu'ils ont accepté, clairement 😆
Clamp! Damn, timing. Locally, my IKEA is impossible to get to if you don’t drive.. online they sometimes don’t sell smaller stuff….modern life
They want you in that store 😆
Ikea cafe is one of my fav go to food spots. I know I'm pretty simple.
It was really nice
@@JaySwanson ☺️👍
I think we've all done following the computer vs our own senses! Cooper looks like he needs to be in a backyard or living room display
He'd do that display justice for sure
2:13 at least there aren't any white Sprinter vans...
Get a backpack dog-carrier…they may allow a dog in that way…maybe???
It specifically said no on their website but I'm sure we could have in the end 😆
I gotta say, I'm uncomfortable watching this. As a kid I was bit by a dog in a store (not a guide dog obv). I think those rules exist for a reason. Sure Cooper is a good one but it emboldens the not good ones to bring their dogs where they're not allowed. Ah well, not my circus, not my monkeys.
In my experience dodgy behaviour in dogs would be noticed or reported and the person would be asked to leave. But most dogs in countries where they are allowed into shops are well used to it and completely chill.
Can't win all the monkeys unfortunately
Going to Ikea is the worst consumer experience ever!
I see you've never tried to open a bank account in France
@@JaySwanson Yap... you're right! LOL
You didn’t spend all day in IKEA? My you guys did well lol. Yep gotta have the meatballs. Has to be done !
Haha, too many additional errands for our driver that day to do much more
Haven’t you heard of those Mini Lamps you can attach to your book? Regretting not using mine to its full potential.
Also a good idea
A guy's day out at Ikea, always fun right??? I hope the book rack works out for you!!!
IKEA always reminds me why I'm single.. 😛
😆
did you get the invader on the bridge at 03:23? maybe it's not genuine?
👽
Missed all of them on the way out 😆
Real stuff without heavy philosophy.
You went to Ikea and did’t buy candles!! How is that possible?
😆
Hey! J. What tripod do you use?
More on that today 🥂
👍😎
🥂
One of my favorite cities...as well as a pain in the *ss to pronounce!!!!
*too. Really?
Nope!
Lmao I’m such an idiot! My bad. I should’ve known
Driving in Paris? Hahaha…don’t be ridiculous!
😆
Hi Jay. Just FYI I visited Toulouse recently. If you've never been or filmed any vlog about it, worth a weekend trip. Cité de l'espace is a huge nerdgasm which will take you an entire day all included save the food and drinks for 26 euros. Even a centrifugal G force simulator and imax theater and a huge planetarium
What a fun little road trip. Glad you were able to take Cooper inside. That IKEA meal looked really yummy. I'd definitely eat that.
It was way more fun with him, if more of a workout 😆
10:18 Nice reading light
Right?
