      Indeed. I am actually surprised that the independent task was removed. I think the independent writing task is a more robust and challenging task that requires a greater range of grammar and vocabulary to complete. But... maybe that is exactly why it was removed. :)

    Will the exam still be scored out of 120 points? I just can't wrap my mind around the idea of removing the Independent Writing section from the exam, as it is clearly the most effective way of assessing test takers' grammar, vocabulary and writing skills. How they believe they can judge one's productive skills with a mini paragraph simply baffles me.

    Very good to know! Thanks, Michael. You always help me keep my own students informed. I've checked out some of your samples and compared them with ETS' samples for Essentials. There seem to be some differences. While your samples include a discussion in which students agree and disagree with each other, Essentials' samples include stand-alone answers. As you said, you probably don't know what exactly it will look like, but what are your thoughts on this? Will it be slightly different than Essentials as your samples suggest?

    • @Toeflresources
      @Toeflresources  Год назад +2

      It is impossible to say exactly what they will look like at this point, but I took most of my inspiration from the THIRD essentials practice test. Take a look at the discussion board question here and you will see what I mean: www.ets.org/s/toefl-essentials/free-practice-test-3/writing3.html
      Note also the annotation to the sample answer, which seems to be the most positive of all the tests.
      I especially think it is important for the test-taker to refer to the other students, as otherwise they serve no purpose.

    • @danielwolfe3607
      @danielwolfe3607 Год назад +1

      @@Toeflresources Thanks again! I'm not familiar with Essentials, and indeed, I had only looked at the first two practice tests. I do agree with you that it is important to refer to the other students. By doing so, the test-taker makes the most meaningful "contribution" to the discussion as the task requires.

    • @Toeflresources

    In my opinion the most necessary change that toefl should make is introducing retaking any one section again just like ielts.
    This is so much needed. Not always we score bad in 4 sections. Sometimes improvement in only 1 section is needed & it is so frustrating to give the whole exam again just for the sake of improving one section 😪😪👎👎

      Yes, I think so. But best wait 'till April 11 for everything to be confirmed.

      The difficulty level should be the exact same. They are the same readings... just fewer of them.
