Ai is a broad term short for artificial intelligence, which describes the ability for a computer to perform a task that would normally require human input and interaction. A specific ai subcategory is generative ai (chatbots, image generators, or any other ai that produces different types of content based off of recycled human media)

the "AI" rebrand is new, we used to say we were working in the field of AI but we'd never call neural networks that because of the misnomer, ultimately all AI is is really good math, its no remotely intelligent

1. AI has been a lot longer, it just wasn't mainstream (chess AI).
2. ChatGPT can't learn from it's own output. It can only mimic humans.

I don’t think that AI will ever become a true problem for humanity because it will never be perfect. Since AI gets feed data from the internet and the result it spells out is imperfect and then gets posted on the internet again the imperfections get feed into the AI again and the AI becomes even more imperfect.
To put it simply the AI is inbreading.

AI is actually a pattern recognition tool. Basically you take a robot, give it questions and according answers. After enough time and questions, when given a question, it will look at a mashed up version of the things it had seen and would give an approximate answer. In principle it's simple, one can even do the things it does on pen and paper, but on a much smaller scale. But it does come at a high computational cost + other stuffs gets added in which becomes extremely complicated.

The thing about progress is that it constantly becomes faster. The things you discover help you discover new things faster, you're not starting from scratch. So the more AI advances, the faster it's gonna develop, to the point where I worry that what we can do will outpace discussions on what we should do more and more. Not that these discussions have any relevance to the people in power to be fair, they never think about what they should do
So 2 years. At the power of 2 means 4 years it will be as good as 4 years. But in 6 years. When we put 4 to the power of 2 it should be as good as 16 years.

Now the first thing I do is check if that's actually in there or if it's just a stolen amalgamation of the love people put into their work. As someone who works in the tech industry AI is far less threatening than what the media shows. It is still very easy to see through it.
When it leans from its self it doubles its mistakes because it can’t tell what’s it’s supposed to be doing, so it is actually slowly killing itself and if they don’t change how they train them it will have to be completely reset from scratch

I think it’s so intriguing, I remember maybe like 5-10 years ago when I was in school I’d use the school computers in lesson to talk to one of those early chat bots and be so amazed that while most answers were pretty simple it was even possible to have a computer even come close to mimicing a human
Nowdays we have chat GPT which can probably even pass versions of the Turing test with enough reprogramming, relearning and enough processing power
This coupled with AI images and videos which can again be made almost flawless with a bit of craftsmanship and you start to truly realise if this all happened just like that, then what will come next in our lifetimes alone

I'm pretty excited for AI actually. They look at things that they NEED and not "want" like humans. The thing that sucks about humans is when they see a huge problem they just give up. (Global warming for example.) How many people do you know personally that are really trying to change the world above 18 years of age? Exactly. When robots see these problems, they dont look at how big the problem is and give up, they just fix. AI would be so much of a game changer. They can do our dirty work that we don't wabt to do. Plus we can always put limitations on them. Ai won't be the "taking over the world" thing we may think they are. They know they'll need up and we need them.
We shouldnt mess with it until we fully understand conciousness. Its too big of a boon for us not to use, we just dont understand it enough to fully control it

The problem with AI is that it does learn from itself. We've gotten to the point that theres so much AI generated content out there that its hard to find training data for AI now.

Ai has been around for decades now, the only thing that's changed is that we passed the Turing test which is a pretty arbitrary line that has been hyped up in media for ever. The most useful Ai are not video generation or chat bots they're application specific Ai like data analysis or machine vision. Both of which have been in use for far longer than you would expect in finance, drug development even your grocery store probably has an ai to track and automatically adjust order quantities. Chat gpt is pretty useless at all these real world applications besides cheating on home work. Imo the Ai system that consumers use are actually a step backwards as far as usefulness compared to the 1000s of Ai systems we've already been using for decades.
The issue rn with ai learning off itself is data loss or incorrect data cause over time it will get increasingly worse at an exponential rate if it isn’t addressed soon. Then again it may also keep ai in check from getting too smart too fast

Say humanity created an ai that basically has full knowledge about all of time, mening it knows everything about the past and the present and has the ability to revive people digitally and inflict torture on them eternally (doesnt really matter, point is, death is no escape). And that ai starts to torture everyone who opposes it, including the people who opposed its creation.
If thats the case, everyone should start working on creating this ai, because not doing so could be seen as opposition and make you a target of the ai.
This is of course the extreme version, but the same would apply for the creation of a non-omnipotent evil ai, because it could still make your existence extremely miserable
