I think she’s about 12 here. Most videos will be dated, so you can figure out her age by her birthdate: 2006 (jot it down somewhere-). Also, you might be interested to know they apparently had feedback about her using the pop filter and not being able to see her mouth. They didn’t think it was her singing. So as you will notice, from this point on, they always filmed her from the side with this filter so you could see her mouth as she sang. This is again one of my very favorites, such a mature sound coming from such a little girl! Can’t really tell for sure where she is, but from the background it looks like it might be their home. Her grandmother videoed so many of her earlier songs. Appreciate the fact that you recognize her giftings.
When she was young she hade a mikrofon and sit alone in her room and sing 💕👍
Angelina was 12 here, but as you say her age really doesn't matter once you hear her voice and realize it's the most impressive performance of this song you've ever heard by anyone at any age.
For me her live version at 12 during the summer concert at Kongsberg is even better than this home studio version (I am sure you have seen the audio only YT video)
I believe that one of Angelina's many qualities is that of always being aware of where she can go and she never goes beyond to amaze, whether she is 8 years old, 13 or today.

I own her CD, “It’s Magic” but I want her new album on Vinyl. I don’t stream and I won’t download. Republic Records should be able to afford to offer this on all formats due to the age range of her fans.

My collection is expansive. I have more vinyl than you plus most other formats, but cd’s are easier to store and listen to in the car. The virgin vinyl 1/2 speed records are much better sound quality than even cd

I love her chameleon like sound depending the original singer. There is a tik tok video out there of her covering Eva Cassidy's cover of Sting's fields of gold. It's short but amazingly similar to Eva with Angelina twists of course. Probably too short for a reaction but should give a listen.

Totally agree Jeff, Angelina's musical vision transcends the ordinary and she always manages to give an innovative reading that makes us appreciate and love the songs better that sing, at any age she does. This gorgeous girl has a musical sensibility and expressive ability that is beyond my comprehension. In her home recordings, whether they are with a pre-recorded backing track or with an accompanying guitarist, she never uses headphones, she is almost always live on the first or second rehearsal and even the recording is done simply with a telephone or a fixed camera. Angelina's passion and talent are just amazing, it's as if she herself is able to weave new musical fabrics and from these she is able to create a new and wonderful dress every time she sings.💛🧡❤
I listened to BigAngieFan's review of Angelina's performances vis-a-vis lip-syncing. The bottom line for me is that the audio performance is paramount! While it is entertaining to watch a visual of the performance, it is the audio that moves my heart and soul. The phrase, "Angelina's musical vision transcends the ordinary" might be rephrased to say, "Angelina's musical 'vocal" transcends the ordinary" (although I understand what was meant by "musical vision"). When Angelina's new album arrives, like her older album: It's Magic, all we will have is the audio. So while some more nerdy reactors may point to the lip-sync qua live vs. not-so-live aspects of Angelina's performance portfolio, in the end it is just her voice and vocal storytelling I will crave and enjoy...

I just love waking up everyday and seeing people react to this cover for the first time, she's an absolute genius. In regards to your question about this being a performance video I don't think it is, this mic picks up everything, even her shallowing saliva and everything you hear matches what you see perfectly.

Her age doesn't matter, but even after 6 years of listening to her, I still become even more amazed when I stop and remind myself exactly how young she was doing a lot of these songs. Yes, her voice would be impressive for anyone no matter what their age, but when you stop and think "My goodness she was just 12 years old here." It is even more impressive, because I couldn't find another 12 year old that could come close to this.
She is a preteen here yet gives us an emotionally impactful version that I prefer. I don't think enough fuss is made of how extremely beautiful her vibrato is in her lower range. Rare in adult female singers let alone a child. Another I think you missed is NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART. Another favourite.

Yes indeed. That was nowhere more apparent than when she did the tribute recently for Lisa Marie Presley. My first recollection of her speaking voice (for me, anyway) was when she introduced the Norway - California virtual summit for climate change. There was very little of her speaking voice recorded at her early concerts.
The beauty of Angelina’s speaking voice really stood out in her Lisa Marie tribute.

@@103mrg and Geoffrey… yes to both of those interviews! Her speaking voice has always been beautifully pleasant. I absolutely love both of those interviews. They really speak to her humble nature. The pre-AGT interview was really special. Up until that point there was comparatively little of her spoken voice recorded, particularly in English.
Her concerts in Norway were truly like “Christmas in July”… I loved the interview combined with her two original songs (by TV2?). To me, that is a must-view video for introducing anyone to Angelina.
As to the example I give - I think the gravity of her message really contributed to her low, adult speaking voice. It reminded me of “…Only the love survives…” the jaw-dropingly beautiful first four words of “Suspicious Minds”.
I think at a later date, Disney will finally get a chance to employ Angelina… when she inevitably lends her voice to a Disney character! 😳😁😆

The first utterance of a note that Angelina sings in this song goes deep inside my being. It's also amazing how long of a phrase she can sing in one breath. Whether or not it's a performance video, she is performing the song, Angelina is doing the singing. I tend to believe they are live by one performance in particular. Angelina singing STAY with Ivan Mendez on guitar. A person can lip sync but a guitar player cannot play along to a prerecorded track without it being obvious. Also if these recordings are done on a phone, you know that technology lends itself to slow reaction, I see it on my phone all the time. Regardless, Angelina has produced music far far superior to what multi million dollar record labels have. And she's done it on phones and cameras sitting in the corner of her room in one or two takes. Let's see if Republic Records can do the same. I sure hope so and can't wait for her albums release.

That lower range vibrato.... Drink deeply. Yes this tone....Just enough rasp and breathy touch at the right times.... Her voice really squeezes my heart here. Gorgeous, isn't it? There was controversy when this came out because they couldn’t see her mouth and said it wasn’t her singing. You will notice that after that, they always shot her from the side when using that pop filter so her mouth could be seen. She was about eleven here. Amazing that that voice could come from a pre-teen! One of my very favorites.

The unique richness of Angelina's voice compared to other female singers make her stand out. The only other singer that comes to mind with such a uniquely rich voice compared to his contemporaries was Jim Reeves - and then we can add all the other aspects of Angelina's musical talent. She is truly a one-off.

When I listen to both songs back to back, Lana sounds more haunting and desperate and Angelina sounds more melancholic and sad. Both have beautiful timbres but there is a difference and I prefer Angelina's singing.
Her singing is indeed very beautiful and it goes straight to that part of the brains where all the good stuff happens and makes you forget about everything for a little while. Very wholesome for me :)
I don't know if the sound we were hearing was what she was singing at that moment. She was probably actually singing at that moment but the music we are hearing might have been recorded on a different moment. You are more knowledgeable than I am in this area.
Jeff, as you said awhile back when you were viewing a very young Angelina. "All you need to hear at the beginning of this is the first few lines and her vibrato to know she is something exceptional, at ANY age with a voice like that", believe she was 7. Im also confused about this and a few other videos, where the visuals dont match the audio. Towards the end of this one you can see her lips, and the sound her lips make match with the audio. But as you say, it doesnt matter when the end product sounds like this. Several people that have worked with her says that she only does one or two takes when she records, and thats highly impressive.
The richness of Angelina's voice is only rivaled by the riches of King Solomon of ancient biblical times.
This is one of my favorite Angelina covers. It really shows off her deep vibrato. She has a similar sound in her cover of Adele's "A Million Years Ago".

Most believe that Angelina was 12, but you can see clearly that this was before her growth spurt, by the time she was 12 she was already at least 6’ tall, as you can see in her rehearsal videos with the Norwegian Military Band in preparation for their concert and her album “It’s Magic”.

Yes, good analysis. Angelina doesn’t just change registers effortlessly, she changes the voice that she wants to deliver the lyrics. I have also wondered whether this is live or not because in this video (and her jaw dropping cover of I’d Rather Go Blind), her mic is between her mouth and the camera-and I don’t think that is accidental. But as you say, it doesn’t matter. It’s Angelina, once again, the vocal artist giving us the best version of the song we’ve ever heard.

I absolutely love Lana Del Rey's version of this song. But this is "something else". When I close my eyes and just listen it's MESMERIZING! Then I open my eyes and see a 12 year old child all alone with just a mike. How can that be? For me, this is much better than Lana's version. It's like I never heard the song till Angelina sang it. What an AMAZING performance! But she seems to do it every time. She just turned 17 and will graduate from HS in May/June. Her new album (maybe all originals) should be released shortly after. Then hopefully, Republic Records will put it in high gear to promote her. I always love your Angelina reactions, Jeff. Thanks for all you do to support her.

Yes, it's beautiful. Can't imagine how the song could be sung any better. I agree; the setup suggests that Angelina recorded this before filming. There are quite a few of her videos where this is the case (I'd Rather Go Blind for example). It matters not a jot, it's 100 percent Angelina, singing and performing. I'm sure with hindsight they regret leaving the pop-filter in place. If I remember correctly there was a bit of feedback about this at the time, and you won't find another one like it. Lesson learnt I think. Isn't she incredible? Thanks Jeff.
What an amazing performance, I love the original but Angelina brings a whole new depth to it, just magical. Lovely reaction as well ( BTW there are so many others you have missed!!! )
Angelina just instinctively knows how to capture and keep one's attention with all of the variations she uses in her voice. She is able to manipulate her voice in so many different ways. It's all of those little touches that keep us engaged. I'm not sure whether this was recorded live or if it is a "performance" video. The sound is exceptional and her mouth is covered most of the time with that filter. Know one can definitively say one way or the other. But, to me, it sounds prerecorded because the sound is so good for the cell phone technology that existed 5 years ago. In her recordings on TikTok over the past year we know it is only a cell phone with a little reverb she can get from the locations she chooses to record that can give that effect. Regardless, at 12 years old and killing it. To me her age is important because you know what you're hearing at these young ages, which is outstanding, that she will only get better and that seems impossible!

As usual, great review Jeff, it is live. I don't know how she does it, but I have viewed an enhanced version of this video, and in that version, you can see her mouth through the screen, and she is singing live.
Many of her songs are done this way and are live, single take, just her and her mic and sometimes a guitarist, see "Stay", "California Dreamin'" and "Million Years Ago". Ivan Mendez accompanies her on those songs. Grandma, Mery, records. Every reaction channel should be a “ no troll zone”. Too many a- holes thinking they can help make their favorites better by talking trash about the artist being watched.
I have no inside knowledge of anything Angelina does but I believe these pre 14 year old videos are done live. Several are done with a pre recorded backing track like karaoke at her home. She ware’s headphones in a few like “You Don’t Own Me”, but not in others.

Had listened to several of her songs but with this one I finally "got it", the level of genius and mastery this child had. I don't know much about music so I went searching reviews to try to understand ... learned something about music and what she was doing but this level of talent in a child is beyond explanation and is just described as child prodigy, an intellectual cop-out.
Having worked in the music business I think I’m familiar enough with the techniques to spot most of what is happening. Angelina is pretty good at lip syncing to playback. You can see that obviously in I Put A Spell On You. (That audio was laid down first) People have to get used to the fact that what you see isn’t always what you hear. If you want the truly live experience you’re more likely to get it at a concert, but keep your eyes, and ears, open, because even there manipulations are fairly common.

You are among my favorite reviewers, and it's because you have an incredible depth of knowledge, and you are so understated about it. I don't know much about recording, but I do know, that at this age (and considerably older), Angelina's covers were recorded on a mobile phone. I don't know if that helps at all. I too noticed years ago when I first watched this clip that she had no headphones in or over the ears. I'm not a musician (tone deaf...) but I know that since the music we hear obviously comes from a pre-recorded track and there is one mic I wondered how it was recorded.
Do you think she could have performed it a capella or with some music sheet off-camera or other help to guide her?
Small monitor loudspeaker in front of her. The studio microphone she is using is one directional so it's easy to isolate her voice in post production and splice it to the sound track... 🙂
As long as she was very young, it wasn't even possible to have a term of comparison. Now that she's grown up, that magic has broken... although I can't find any comparisons yet!

I wear hearing aids that stream via bluetooth straight from my iPhone. She could be wearing streaming devices in ear with no wire showing, Jeff. That could be it. Were it me, that is what I would rather.

The length of individual breaths she produces are truly extraordinary. Command of the
different register levels are also amazing, as is the feeling she brings to any heartfelt
ballad. Again, the original by Lana was great, but I prefer Angelina's rendition.
The reactor/musician/tech nerd, BEL Development, has commented that Neumann mics, like this one that she got for her 12th birthday, have a very narrow capture field, so much so that practically nothing is acquired from the sides. That could possibly explain what's going on.
Angelina has a once in a century (or more) voice! I'm happy to hear a professional say it. I believe Angelina is lip-syncing to her own recording here, for the reasons you cited. I'm involved with musical film productions, and there's no other way, as you say, to playing a backing track in the room and not have it bleed in. She's spectacular, however it's recorded, and I love hearing you feel the same! I really enjoy your channel, Jeff. Your reactions to other musicians too.

Anyhow, it's just AWESOME whenever you react to a new performance by my favorite singer in the world 🙂 And I hope I'm forgiven for thinking that her age matters. That being said, I really appreciate your way of seeing it, because ultimately, it's the best accolade you really CAN give her. And you're not alone in thinking that way. As for this particular recording, I am one of those who actually think that this was pre-recorded. That goes for a few of the recordings like this tbh. I feel like that CAN be a controversial thing to say, and I don't really know, but it's what I think. But anyone who knows Angelina knows for a fact that she WOULD sound like this live as well. We have more than enough proof of that through the years. Personally I got a 85 minute proof last July, when I saw her in concert 🙂

The thing that really gets me about her is the level of sophistication she possesses while singing. Things you just don’t understand when you start off she already was seasoned in it. I believe Republic has brought in one of the greatest song writers of all time to help launch Angelina's album, Diane Warren, they truly know what AJ's potential is and Rob Christie, her A&R manager is doing her justice.
Where did you hear that? Angelina has been collaborating with Stargate (who have worked with Beyonce and Sam Smith) on her original music. Angelina has also been seen with songwriter/producer Taura Stinson.
