    Ferelden is a proper noun and Fereldan is an adjective.

    No king but the King in Ferelden, whose name is Theirin.
    No King but Alistar who is harden.

    I have to say, I quite like Ferelden's political system and how it flips feudalism on its head.

      Same, I also love how orlais is confused about it since their ruler has absolute power

    • @TheSpicyLeg
      @TheSpicyLeg 3 года назад +16

      That’s not really true. Elective monarchy was not that rare, with the Holy Roman Empire and Poland-Lithuania as examples. The idea that kings ruled absolutely was never true; while a king would have a personal demense, most of the taxes and troops he could call upon were from vassals. An unpopular king that ignored his vassal’s wishes could find his head and his body going in different directions, as often happened.

      Hell a lot of south east Asian cultures had something similar not immune to corruption or tyranny but generally the masses who produced the food and produce etc generally did have power in the court of kings and emperors and spread that power through represtatives

    You know, I'd love it if someone would tackle Chateau D'Onterre in DA:I. That whole situation of what actually happened there is so mysterious! We can already tell the basic thing is that a girl mage was never sent to the Circle and ended up becoming an abomination, but looking at all the evidence and the journal scraps.... Something really specifically messed up happened there. There were so many parties and maybe all the corpses came from the guests? I know for SURE we fight the girl as an Arcane Horror for the main boss fight.

      lumpyspacecadet Did it say it was a girl? I always pictured a boy for some reason. But there is a journal entry just outside near a cliff suggesting a girl refuged in the chateau, who had a troubling backstory. Her journal implies that a desire demon, I think, toyed with her and her sibling until it decided to kill them off, all the while convincing her it was their mother. IMO it was more fucked up than the chateau's haunted origin.

      Definitely the creepiest place in the whole game. One of the best side quests in the series imo. You have this beautiful, lush, green forest outside that is one of the most peaceful zones in the game and then you enter this estate that immediately puts you on edge and makes you feel uncomfortable. I loved the contrast between the pleasant and the macabre.

    • @DerikHendric
      @DerikHendric 4 года назад +3

      I took from the journals that the place saw many parties but on one specific party the girl, or the demon that took over her, killed all the guests. That's why there are the corpses, and the girl herself killed the noble family that owned the Chateau. And I remember one note telling something really f*cked up about the father from the family invinting the girl to his room, but idk...

    Just to make clear, the difference between a bann and an arl was that a bann held a tract of land (similar to real world counts, where the unit of governance called a county is from) with serfs working on it, whereas arls held little actual land, but strategically important or large cities or towns. They were technically equivalent in rank, but the arl would command greater men and money, thus, prestige.

    Have you done a video on lands beyond thedas yet? Including Par Vollen but also maybe reasons why there are uncharted territories, codes/hints/easter eggs about exploring different lands in the future? I know there may not be a lot of material to work with but your speculation and theories would also be cool !

    At the start of Inquisition the noble bothering Lady Josephine claim that Haven is now "the rightful lands" of his house (by marriage). Does that mean that Orlais want the whole Frostbacks or just the town/city where Andrastes ahses where hidden?

    When first meeting Abelas at Mythals temple he states that we have disturbed their slumber and everytime they awaken they find the world more foreign then the last time they awoke. My question is what is this "slumber" he speaks of? I know Solas has just awoken from his a year prior to the game as well but what is it exactly? A magical slumber/hybernation that somehow preserves the body? Is this explained somewhere? Is there a video on it?

    • @GhilDirthalen
      @GhilDirthalen  7 лет назад +2

      No video on it yet- but we do know a bit on it! Very quickly: it's called Uthenera. Because elves did not die or age, when they became 'tired of life' they would enter an endless sleep to wander the fade. The DA wiki page has good information on it if you can't wait for a video :D

    • @biolaregeek6194
      @biolaregeek6194 7 лет назад

      Ghil Dirthalen I remember reading about that in origins when you're hunting the werewolves in the temple but I thought that that sleep was a permanent one where the body slowly wasted away? If that's the case how is it Abelas and Solas, especially Solas, didn't have their body rot in the time they were asleep dreaming in the fade?

    • @oliversmith4548
      @oliversmith4548 7 лет назад +2

      Bioware Geek
      Elves in Uthenera were tended to by servants, sustaining their bodies with concoctions of herbs, water and honey (basically elven tea), though there were some elves that could sustain themselves through the Fade, and didn't need to be tended to.

    fereldan is an adjective

  • @invinciblereason1618
    @invinciblereason1618 4 года назад +2

    Always preferred ferelden to orlais. They may not have fancy clothing and fine dining but they are more honourable than the orlesians and the imperium and they are all about getting the job done. They have the dwarves from orzammar directly below the frostback mountains which are a subject on their own, the best characters in the series are fereldan, the best zone in DAI is crestwood which is in ferelden, meanwhile the worst zone is either the large, empty hissing wastes or the 3D puzzle that is the forbidden oasis (both of which are in orlais). I'm also of the firm belief that ferelden would be on par with or even greater than orlais when it comes to military might if not for the fifth blight.
    I know DA4 will take us to tevinter but i hope that we still get to see ferelden in future titles. It's where the series began and is, in my opinion, the heart and soul of thedas.
