    🤣 that Irish accent was on point. 'Twas a good chat overall. Racism seems to be so deeply woven into the fabric of the UK's culture and infrastructure that it's inescapable. Being that deep, it will take way more concentrated effort to unlearn than a racist has patience for to be honest.

    I can relate on so many levels with the stories in the beginning. I went to an all girls school in the posh side of Birmingham where all the footballers lived with a lot of white middle class girls. We had a dance competition and I stayed the night at this huge house which blew my mind. We went to sleep and the next morning I woke up and there was a HUGE grease stain from my hair on this pristine white pillowcase and I was mortified about how I was going to explain it and felt so embarrassed. It's crazy how something so normal made me feel so inferior and embarrassed.

    JD sports are part of the problem since they didn’t even have any black women in their Christmas campaign. I hope they think about this and change.

    • @adzshhh
      @adzshhh 4 года назад +1

      I’m sure there’s plenty of people they didn’t have in the Xmas ads, it’s not about hitting a diversity quota it was talent. They didn’t have any Chinese people or trans people or disabled people.. let’s stop reaching m8, it’s not Noah’s ark

    • @fififlowertot177
      @fififlowertot177 4 года назад +12

      They are most definitely part of the problem. When I used to work there I would definitely notice in a lot of their advertising the promotion of dark skinned black men in order to push their urban/cool narrative. However there were never any dark skinned women promoted in their campaigns. This went on for yearsss! Most of their head office were white males and when area management would visit the store again just white males. So today when I saw this video I was like “realllllly” lol it is you JD that are promoting these serious discussions lol. It’s a change in the right direction but I wanna see how sincere this all is as time goes by.

    The issue of teaching our children from go about their blackness and how that blackness is nothing to be anxious or inferior or ashamed of is so important. My daughter is only 6yrs old but l am constantly telling her she is beautiful and her skin and hair are her crowning glory. She has mentioned that she wants straight hair like her friend (who is white) and when i told her that her hair is curly and not straight she was upset so we spoke to her about the fact that her hair is different to her friend's hair and there is noting wrong with her curly hair she needs to be proud and embrace her curly hair which can be styled differently in multiple ways to accentuate and complement her beauty. The struggle is real out here and this has made me more vigilante on teaching her about black people who have traversed huge obstacles and her mum and l are role models and we lead by example.

    The thing is, black people need to stop trying to invest in a white man's country and start investing in Africa, to make it better so that we can eventually move back there. Africa is rich with plenty of opportunities, it just needs a shift in mentality. Why are we happy to continue to be minorities in a country that doesn't want us here. Imagine if white people came to Nigeria and started demanding that the Nigerian curriculum started teaching white history, I don't think that the Nigerian people would put up with it.
