I think most RPGs do a terrible job representing railways authentically. I think GTA5 does a better job than most.
1: as with model railroading, there are virtues to suspension of disbelief. Sure, it's a small system fit in a limited world size, yet I think for what it is they did pretty good representing things to scale with the world.
2: While it's okay lore-wise to have some industrial spurs represented as "abandoned", several of them seem 'live' with freight cars set on them, yet are completely cut off from the system by paved-over crossings. Cypress flats, and Elysian Island are the spots. Wtf!?!?
Also, the mainline curves way too sharp at Rancho and Elysian Island. The grade is abruptly sharp in a couple Los Santos spots, and somewhere along Mount Gordo the line has what I think is a 10% uphill grade! Everywhere else is imo ok compared to most RPGs.
3: some platforms have poor placement, like the one at the quarry crossover diamond. Also, the quarry should have a full loading "balloon" loop.
And why are there no mineral hoppers there? and why no logging spur near Paleto Bay with spline cars? Why no passing sidings on mainline, such as at Sandy Shores and along the San Chianski? Also, Sandy Shores would be a good place for an abandoned industrial spur or siding.
4: it would've been cool if the Mirror Park railyard was complete with a north half, and have a north lead track pass along/under the freeway and connect to the northbound mainline track by the wind farms just before Sandy Shores.
5: it would be cool if there was a west coast passenger-only line inspired by the Coastal Starlight, running along the highway... maybe squeeze in a major passenger terminal by Little Seoul/La Puerta.
6: I actually love the inclusion of British rolling stock in a couple spots. I think it's a cute easter egg and I laughed when I found them. What I don't like is that most of the bumpers are incorrect European bumpers. I was more upset by this when I found that, in Buccaneer Terminal, there are actually TWO tracks which end with the correct American style bumpers, the only ones in the game. All others are European. I don't know why the devs did this.
7: More Locomotive types would've been cool... have the GP's parked at or workin Mirror Park yard and Cypress Flats, Dash9s pulling on the main, and at the docks and Paleto Bay yard maybe have an Alco S6 at least parked as though it works those areas.
8: Ooh, and I also nearly forgot, I find issues with other trackside equipment, lots of it is inaccurate or incorrectly placed, especially switches for the points. The actual levers.
They are nearly non existent.
And the few I did find, 1: are placed on the wrong side and too close, and 2: are not a part of the terrain! If you hit them with a vehicle, you will "uproot" them.
It's really nice to see someone else point out the many oddities of the rails in GTA V for once, I wish I could find videos covering these topics! I have some points and opinions here that I might as well add.
- I gotta agree with basically everything here, out of the many open world games I like, GTA V really got some parts close! So far it's my favorite rail depiction in an open world game, other than maybe Red Dead Redemption 2, which I haven't played so I haven't gotten to look closely at it.
On an off note, it's a shame the Brown Streak didn't return in a form like you mentioned, maybe with an all new F40PH parody like SA has.
- So far with how Rockstar has been map and vehicle detailing wise, I'd say the next GTA game should be pretty in depth railroad wise, since we've already seen parodies of the Miami Metro-movers and what seems to be a Vice City Airport light rail passenger train! Although they don't look too finished for obvious reasons.
- I'm really hoping we finally get a proper parody of a Class 1 railroad in the next game when it comes to freight, seeing a play on CSX and maybe others would be awesome! Maybe with larger long haul locomotives and the GP from V returning in yards or mixed on consists, seeing proper double stack cars and more variety in general would be great too.
- I'm not really familiar with rail operations in Florida, so idk what all it's like, but seeing some actual working harbors and freight depots would be awesome, at least with the gantry cranes and trains moving around, even if just on repeat or something, longer trains would be great too, it seems like the map will be a lot bigger which should help. I just wanna see more accurate details.

Have you installed the train mod or only installed the sound mod? If you just install the sound mod, it's certain that only the sound will work and if you have installed the train mod, is it complete? How do you install it? have you replaced the train.

@@pajargg607 I have tried installing this mod, multiple times, along with the lore friendly liveries mod to go with it. It just crashes my game. A visual tatorial would be super helpful, with RDE and Vanillaworks extended. These 3 mods put together, makes the game world feel so much more alive.
