It is a shame that this composer is played so seldom and remains so little known. Her music is so soft, relaxing, and melodic, and I would definitely call her one of the top female composers the world has up to now produced.
I find her, like British composers like Vaughn Williams, to have that quality of being relaxing to listen to. Thanks for recommending The Prison. I will check it out. Something tells me that a work with a title like that will NOT be relaxing though.
I’m studying violin/composition and planning to play this next year as part of my course! I think the more people hear it, the more people will want to play it.
I must say that I had a difficult time with Ethel Smyth's music, especially with pieces like her String Quartet in e minor (the one with the 'Great Fugue'). This sonata is great though.

Florence Price and Amy Beach is better imo
