Miele W1 WCR 890 WPS - Freshen up w/ Steam - Auffrischen mit Dampf

Wie versprochen nun der Vergleich zum Dampfprogramm des Trockners: Das Auffrischen-Dampfprogramm meiner Miele Waschmaschine.
Es unterscheidet sich doch stark vom "Finish Dampf"-Programm, was sie mit an Bord hat. Zunächst ist es in erster Linie eher für trockene, nicht verschmutzte Wäsche gedacht. Zudem darf man nur 1kg einfüllen. Es wird zudem in Kurz-Lang-Kurz-Lang-Intervallen bedampft, während die gesamte Zeit während des Bedampfens die Heizung angeschaltet bleibt, damit der Dampf auch ordentlich Temperatur hat. Denn nur so kann trockene Wäsche feucht-warm werden und sich ausdehnen, damit sie glatter und geruchsfreier werden. Zwischen der ersten und der zweiten, deutlich längeren, Dampfphase gibt es eine zwei minütige Pause.
Das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen: Die stark verdrehten, verknitterten Kissenbezüge kamen deutlich knitterfreier aus der Maschine. Ausgeschüttelt und hängend getrocknet mussten sie anschließend nicht mal gebügelt werden.
Verglichen mit einem Waschprogramm bei 30°C mit SingleWash, was bei dieser Ladung sonst angebracht wäre, wurde hier durch das Aufheizen während der Dampfphase zwar keine Energie gespart (minimale 0,2 kW/h), jedoch alles an Wasser, da das Programm ohne jegliches Wasser auskommt. Das kann nicht mal AEGs separates Dampfprogramm toppen.
Einziges Manko: Die Maschine erreicht deutlich über 60°C Trommeltemperatur (76°C gemessen) und somit wird nach Programmende erst noch weiter abgekühlt, was die Gesamtdauer von 20 auf knapp 30 Minuten erhöht. Da die Temperatur aber je nach Textilbeschaffenheit und Beladung abweicht, hat Miele das so geregelt, dass das Programm endet und anschließend bis zur Freigabe-Temperatur (55°C) im Display "Tür ist noch verriegelt" steht, da eine genaue Einschätzung, wie lange das Abkühlen letztendlich dauert, praktisch nicht möglich ist, da zum Beispiel Mischgewebe oder Polyester nicht so heiß werden, weil sie kaum heißen Dampf aufnehmen können.
Ich bin ein großer Fan dieser Dampffunktion. Schade bloß, dass nur die absoluten Spitzenmodelle (WCR 890, WWR 880 und die WWV 980 Passion) mit dem Dampfgenerator ausgestattet sind, und dieses Programm anbieten.

The "Freshen up" cycle is very different to the "Steam finish" cycle from the washer too. First of all, "Freshen up" is more meant for dry, not dirty laundry, which has wrinkels or a bad smell and the load is limited to only 1kg. Also, the steaming comes in "Short-long-short-long" intervals while the heating element is never turned off during steaming so that the steam reaches a high temperature. Only with that way you'll get the fabrics to stretch so it has less wrinkels and get rid of any bad odour. Between the first and the second (way longer) steaming phase, there is a break of two minutes.
The result was amazing: The heavily wrinkled pillowcases were way less wrinkled after the cycle and leaving them hang dry they didn't need to be hand ironed at all.
Compared to a regular 30°C/86°F wash with the option "Single wash" (which would be the preference with that load) you don't save energy, since the heating never stops during steaming phase, but all the water because the cycle doesn't need any water. That is something not even the separate steam cycle from AEG can do better since that cycle needs water.
A little negative point: The temperature inside the drum gets very high (highest I checked was 76°C/169°F), so after the cycle finishes, the door remains unlocked until the temperature reaches 55°C/131°F, the highest possible temperature for Miele to unlock the door. So the whole cycle time increased to 30 minutes. Since the cooling down phase can take more or less time, Miele does not calculate the time for the cool down from the beginning, which is absolutely okay, because when you fresh up mixed or polyester garments, the temperature will not get that high because the fibre won't heat up and soak up the hot steam as much as cotton does.
I am a huge fan of that steaming feature of my washer! Sadly, only the highest range models (WCR 890, WWR 880 and WWV 980 Passion) come with that feature though.
