    WOW I just recently discovered your channel. I have a torn meniscus in both knees with moderate arthritis. I’ve been dealing with knee pain over a year & have decided to have the surgery. I just tried firing my glutes, turning my feet out & the pain is instantly gone when I walk now! Amazing, I’m in tears of joy. Thank you ❤❤❤

    Quad strengthening is what my doctor keeps saying and it hasn't helped my walking pain at all. I've also been told all my life to walk with my feet straight forward, which is what I've done for 75 yrs. Going to give this a try starting today. Hoping it will work.

    Over 10 years of knee pain from a fall that is now causing me to walk like I am gliding. My quality of life may be at 50%. I have always been active outdoors. I played softball for over 20 years. I can no longer standup straight. When I stand from sitting, I have to stand a minute before I can actually begin to walk. Ortho says I am not bone on bone, but I do have OA. I have had Euflexxa injections at least once a year for the past 10 years. PT did not work for me which was 3 times a week.1.5 hours in the pool and 1.5 hours in the gym after a lateral and medial meniscus tear. I will not have knee replacement. it seems to be the only solution they recommend. I just discovered your website and glute exercises and placing my feet on the floor, turning it inward and sliding my foot underneath the chair. After 2 days of these exercises, the stiffness is being relieved! What other videos you recommend I watch? THANK YOU FOR YOUR PASSION TO REACH OUT!!!!!

    Every thing you said is exactly what I searched and needed to know for more than a year. You fill the missing link between the doctors, physiotherapists and orthopedic. Your explanation of the ACL, glut and quads are easy to understand. I am 71, had a fall about one and half years ago. There is a meniscus tear and arthritis, been in pain every time I walk, even after seeing the doctors and exercise therapists multiple times. I had the scan, MRI, cortisone injections, exercises. Your comments about doctors, exercise physios are exactly what I experienced. They gave confusing advices, not talking down each other's advice and did not say, you have done, to ease up when pain and swelling increased. The physio said 'no pain, no gain' 'do 30 reps...'. The doctor recommended knee surgery. As you said, it is such an individual condition, no textbook recommendation fixes everyone. I am allergic to painkillers so I avoid tablets as long as I could. I kept replaying your video and immediately feel the relief practising the correct glut-quad walks. I am so grateful to you. God bless your work. I am spreading your video to friends and families who have knee pain. Thank you.

      Hey Susie, we’re glad that we’ve been able to help you through this video! We hope that you get back to normal as fast as possible from your meniscus tear. They can heal and you can get back to normal. You’ve just got to be patient and not over do it with a meniscus injury. We hope and pray for the very best for you. 🙏😊

I have however recently developed a click everytime I take a step up the stairs which is more annoying than anything else and does not hurt at the time but I feel it adds to irritation afterwards, is there anything I can do to correct this your opinion would be greatly appreciated thanks.

    I believe I had quad dominance. I've been following the advice from your videos and the pain in my knees has decreased but I'm not walking as well as i used to. I'm wondering if this could be because i have weak glutes? When you said in your video that 'maybe you aren't ready to walk' it was reassuring. I'm going to stick to the glute exercises from your other videos.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy

      Great plan Lizdenas!!! You're doing the right thing!!! You'll likely need to spend some time strengthening your glutes and in the meantime begin to normalize your walking to be sure you use your glutes. Good work!!!

      Hello Jaime! Sorry to hear about your knees and feet cracking. That's a sign of arthritis usually. If you have swelling in both legs that is really bad, then you might have a heart condition and you should consider seeing a cardiologist to make sure your heart is okay.
      If your heart is okay, then you might consider watching videos from these playlists so you can get exercises, stretches and advice on what to do next:

      Hey Nancy!!! Sorry to hear that you're dealing with knee pain after your laminectomy surgery :-(
      You're going to have to start working on your glutes and abdominal muscles. But you'll have to be careful and progress very slowly. You should probably be in physical therapy right now since you just had surgery. Go find a clinic in town. If your doctor did not recommend it, then ask them to send you to a clinic. Better yet, research the best clinics in your area and ask your doctor to let you go there.

    I bought an expensive pair of orthotics - I've had extremely flat feet since birth. I am 67-years-old and have had knee problems my whole life. But now when I use my orthotics, my feet feel squeezed & constricted in my shoes. Should I purchase a shoe a half a size larger than my usual shoe size when I use orthotics? For example, I am a 7.5 (USA size) - should I change to an 8? Or is the sensation of having lack of space for my feet a normal reaction when I insert my orthotics?

    I have been suffering from extreme knee pain for a few years now and finally went to see a orthopedic Doctor, he diagnosed me as bone on bone and needing double knee replacements. I'm 60 years old and he did admit that I'm kinda young for this type of procedure and that I should do everything in my power physically to alleviate the pressure on my knees, I did go through three rounds of shots, 2 rounds of Cortisone and 1 round of some sort of long lasting lubricant is how it was explained to me. Each time I received the shots I did experience quite a bit of relief but only for a few months and the lubricant shots I received did last the longest. I think your videos are very informative and are a critical part of the equation and a part I hadn't thought about. I also think that the part that you didn't mention is and I have found to be extremely important is how much weight we demand our joints to carry, we all know the majority of Americans are overweight myself included luckily I was only about 30 lbs overweight but I'm not a huge muscular guy so 30 lbs is 30 lbs. The second part that you didn't mention is diet which is the reason most Americans are overweight and the foods we eat are extremely inflammatory, so I started researching the "proper human diet" with Dr. Ken Barry here on RUclips. I have lost my 30 lbs in 8 weeks without one bit of exercise on a Keto diet which I found very easy to do and I have stopped eating inflammatory foods and sugar all together, that coupled with intermittent fasting and my knee pain has virtually disappeared. It is amazing how much our diet contributes to our pain and overall health. Please I'm asking you to at least acknowledge these issues with your patients along with the great therapeutic information you provide.

      Hey Pierre Bois! We agree 100% that diet and weight are important factors in managing knee pain. Especially sugar - too much is really bad for most people. Nutrition and weight loss is not our specialty and we stick to only talking about things that we're specialists about.
      We've seen that most people with knee pain can get improvements without losing weight. That's because of the muscle imbalances and stuck joints they're dealing with that our videos are focused on helping. But for the person that is overweight and could improve on their diet, their knees would likely benefit too.
      It's great to hear that you've been able to lose 30 lbs!!! That's got to feel great!!! Congratulations!!!
      We sincerely hope that you can escape having knee replacements and get back to being active again!!!

    As a runner, I have to tightly coordinate my quads and hamstrings at the beginning and end of my stance phase. If I was to point my toes outward, I would be wrecking my knees because the knee bracing action would be too 'loose'. Going up hill is a good time to point toes outward and activate glutes when they are really needed. It is natural to avoiding the straight forward foot posture when running or trudging up hills.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 года назад +3

      Hey Ralph, it sounds like you've got your running form down well. If that is working for your knee health, then don't change it. Some runners figure out their body very well and it wouldn't be a good idea to change it. If you are having problems through, then it would be wise to reevaluate the mechanics of your current running form. Just a warning that over using the quads and hamstrings typically leads to over-pressuring the knee joints. If you have knee trouble, that could be the reason for it.

    Another thing I did notice is if I fast my knee pain is less. ..and now I’ve realized I have to fast so my body can heal itself. .. it’s a trade off…short term hunger for long term pain free…I’ll take a couple of days fasting then intermittent fasting for less pain and better quality of life.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 года назад +1

      Hey Maryj, that's great that you found that fasting can help you feel better and heal. Yes, we completely agree with intermittent fasting. If you're able to do it, it usually helps. We think it has to do with carbohydrates in our blood stream. If it's not good for our overall health because it leads to diabetes, then it must not be good for our knee joints either!!!

      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Год назад

      Hey @sujatharavi6631, this happens very often when learning to use the glute muscles better. You've got to lighten up on how hard you're using your glutes. It may also be helpful to do glute exercises where you practice using your glutes without allowing your quads to work too.

      Sorry to hear about your rheumatoid arthritis Saleem :-(
      That is an autoimmune issue that we're not the best at helping. Our best advice is to keep your glutes strong, walk and climb stairs well. Eat healthy to keep your flare ups under control. You may need to do some research and experimentation to figure out what is the right combination of things for you to do to put you in the best situation.
