Anyone who has ever had, loved and lost a doxie, knows what a big hole it leaves in your heart when they go. I am so glad that you got to have so many long years with yours. I miss my millie so much.
@@whitehat8274 I know!! Letting her go was the hardest thing i ever had to do! Still miss her! She was the best! Maybe you can get one again if you are ever ready for it! They just make life so much better!
My Dachshund, Ash, was my best friend for 16 years...I rescued him when he was 2, so he actually was 18 when he passed...Im still having a terrible time with the loss....they really are my favorite dog breed.
Thought I lost my man card when I bought my old lady a dachsund, until I realized he was tougher and braver than any 120 lb dog I've ever had and just as smart. Hell of a dog 10/10
Omg i have a smooth dachshund x chihuahua black and tan girl named Penny! She looks like a dachshund except her ears are not as long and she's a bit smaller than most. Love herrr. She's my baby and my best friend ♡
I recently had to put my 18 year old dachshund down. I have had him since he was 12 weeks and I was 11 years old. There really are no dogs like dachshunds. From their amazing personalities to their stubborn streak they are fantastic
Our little guy passed in November last year after 13 years too. We love reminiscing about all the fun times we had with him...it always brings smiles to our faces ☺
100 pound dog in a 10 pound sack! My Jolly is my best friend and my wife’s fearless protector. At 11 years old, he’s a little slower, a little grayer but no less loving. With any luck, he’ll be around for many more years and we’ll grow old together.
My dachshund loves to sing. Anytime "Something" by The Beatles is sung or comes on, he FREAKS out singing along. If I say "I love you" he tries his best to say it back with his howling. He is the CUTEST boy ever. I love my dachshund so much.
I have a Beagle/Dachshund named Gigi and i just recognized a couple of Dachshund traits. She's very active and she loves to dig her way under the blanket. She's a rescue dog and she's full of love and is also a good watch dog. She has a small Beagle like head.
My gorgeous girl is a wirehaired dachshund we rescued from Spain when she was 9. She's now 13 and I am so grateful to have her. She is the most loving girl. She was there for me when I was very low. I'm so dreading when we have to say goodbye to her
I have a chiweenie, and she has the best qualities of both breeds. She's a great lap dog, but also very trainable, smart, and great with strangers and kids.
My girlfriend has a standard black and tan female and a standard brown and tan wire haired male great dogs I love how suspicious they are of strangers and how easy they are to maintain compared to her teacup Shih Tzu that has to go to the groomer every 2-3 weeks... Very loving, loyal and fearless dogs...
What a lovely video! Makes me love my cute little dachshund even more! I’ve grown up with lots of dachshunds as almost everyone in my family owns dachshunds. They’re impossible to say no to
Had a doxie for 13 years. Such a sweet, brave, and stubborn boy. Loved him in life and will still love him after death. Would love to have another some day.
Forever my favorite breed. From the first one I’ve ever owned over 17 years ago I fell in love with them and are the only dogs I want to have. I love all dogs, but the love I have for Dachshunds is unmatched.
No wonder they are so popular since this little dog's bravery and heart is beyond any other breed I've ever met!! I got two and wouldn't change them for anything ❤ my miniature girl protects me against everything, no matter how huge! 😂
I have rescued two and found both of them loving families. I currently have a mini black and tan i named Rosie she is 4yrs now. We go everywhere together and are enjoying my retirement.
Never had a dachshund before my little Annabelle....now I don’t think I can go without one in my life. I love her to pieces and although she’s a mix of dachshund and poodle, I see so much more dachshund in her! She loves digging, barking, starting fights with giant dogs, exploring, and bothering her sister’s until they play with her. She’s also just learning how to cuddle (she’s almost 4 but she never really liked cuddling until recently) and she’s becoming more loving. I love this breed and the joy it’s brought to my family
We have three miniatures, Ronie, Schatzie and Annie. They are simply one of the most loving furry family members I've ever seen. I'll never be without one.
I ❤️ my weenies so much! I’ve owned dogs my entire life & of course I have loved all of them very much but there’s just something about my Doxie’s that have captured my heart in a way that no others have.
My first dachshund was a standard smooth red haired male named Harry. He was the cutest dog. And saved my mother from being bitten by a rattlesnake. Miss that dog!
I had a black and tan standard, smooth, mother and daughter, may they rest in peace. Now I have my third, also smooth standard, but red. I love them so much and they are so loyal, smart, protective, sharp when necessary, but also gentle. Today, my Kiara saw a crow on the tree and she sat beneath the tree, barking loudly, as if telling me, here is my prey. Dachshunds are so magnificent, I adore them. ❤❤❤
I love my Dachshund Honey, she fought off 2 pitbulls and lived to tell about it. She's lovable and protective. I got her from the city pound and she chose us. I knew when I met her she was a special Dog. 💖
Thats all I will own. Naught naughty naughty. And that's the well behaved ones. Lol. Total characters. Actually they own YOU. You better be real firm or your going to be a slave to their behavior.
You're right. Alongside with their breavery, they are very stuborn dogs, people need to have this in mind before consider adopt one. You have to have a high energy to match theirs and impouse yourself as a leader.
My jasper is 2 and half , red smooth standard breed .... I just totally and completely crazy in love with him.... he rules us.... I dont care about how much he barks.... he's our life. My love!!!❤❤❤😍😍😍👍👍👍😘😘😘
I have two 9 yr old rescued miniature. One is Black and Tan long haired and a red short hair. I take them to visit our nursing homes and to the VA center. They love the attention. I also got my Black and Tan certified as my therapy dog when I got diagnosed with breast cancer.
I'm a Doxie rescue mommy of a whiny silly boy. He's an only child since my other dogs have all passed away in the last few years. The most recent was 9/11/18 and we've finally started looking for a new friend. I'm like most. Once you go Doxie you never go back. 😆
My absolute favorite small breed! We have an eleven year old male miniature smooth coat red brindle . I cannot imagine life without Zeke or his younger ''sister,'' Bunny, our nine year old German Shepherd.
These dogs are very unique, I don’t know if you guys noticed but they’re the sweetest, I am a designer, pattern-maker and artist... whenever I’m at my workshop my Yumi stay with me so behaved and just on her blanket and sleeping. Okay yes they’re maybe clingy they want to follow you wherever you are but I guess it’s part of their personality they’re very overprotective with they’re parents. I love my Yumi because she’s so funny, stubborn, cute, well now she’s lazy because she’s 11 but she’s still my baby, like the first time I held her back in 2007. Dachshunds are the best. Just the best.
Have four, lol is for"lot's of love" because they are fantastic! They are 19,18 and 4 wouldn't have it any other way!! Long life span is most of the time and very much protective of you and your family!! Great for any person who wants to have a little fun dog!! Jmo!!
We have a Miniature Dachshund and she doesn't dig too often, but she does like to play around a lot. Everytime my dad or my sister puts on their shoes and our dachsund hears the shoes, she seems to know that it means that they're leaving the house. So everytime she hears the shoes, she goes crazy, she barks and whines for up to 20 minutes. I've tried to play with her and pet her, but nothing seems to calm her down. ( Our Dachshund also knows that if I stand by the window and call her name, that means that I want to show her something so she always runs up to me by the window and I lift her up. Mostly when my dad or sister comes home so she knows that they're back. )
They are such clever dogs, but definitely have that stubborn streak, mine has no “ off switch “ when it comes to food so she’s well rationed, I love her to bits.
Dachshund are the best . I Had Four in my life time Two female and two Males miniature long-haired theirs names Were Turbo,Porsche ,Copa and my male Picasso he won best of Breed at the American kennel club dog show . Dachshunds have super Personality’s, there loyal ,Loving ,Good Hunters,Sweet Very Smart ,But can be stubborn at times .I am considering getting another dog And possibly another breed but they’re pretty hard to beat possibly when I decide I will get a short hair or wire hair .
Thank you so much AKC! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It's so informative. There are a lot of videos out there but not as well rooted in authentic knowledge especially on history as this one and that too with great pictures from the past. Please do more meet the breeds videos. Your previous videos on different breeds are also great (but I can't find full length videos here on you tube on most breeds except very few like Rottweilers and Great Danes...they were so exhaustive! Absolutely fantastic!)....please make more videos....would love to see one on Dobermans.
I never had a dog until 2010, then picked up an abandoned chiweenie. Sadly she was struck by a car but by then I was hooked. I adopted a dog from the shelter, and when he passed from back issues I found another dachshund at a shelter. Mauser is watching me from the couch as I type this. He does sleep under the covers behind my knees.
My family and I are getting a chiweenie soon do you have any tips I've been doing a lot of research? This is our first small dog. We used to always get pitbulls my last one died can bring myself to get another one.
Dykejiah Jones I’ve had two! They’re such sweet happy dogs. They’re definitely people dogs and the both that I had were super cuddly. They love to be outside exploring so if you don’t have a lot of space then make sure you set aside time to take them for walks. They gain weight pretty fast too so it’s pretty easy for them to get overweight if they aren’t getting enough exercise. Congrats on your new addition to the family!
@@melissarivera7376 thank you for the tips, she is finally starting to eat and get a little chubby but she's still very small. Her dad was a blue-eyed pit. He is on the smaller side. I feel like she takes after her dad. I grew up with pits and they were very calm mannered.
Dykejiah Jones aww I’m so happy to hear everything’s good so far! My chiweenie just passed away a month ago so I was watching these videos to reminisce about her a little but it sounds like yours has a wonderful family looking after her so she’ll be happy regardless!
I’ve got a chiweenie (1/2 dachshund 1/2 chihuahua). I have no idea where her cuddly, sleepy personality comes from, but she loves to dig and is very protective!
My B+Tan mini smooth hair BISMARCK is 18 + years ruptured 3 spinal discs while chasing down a Racoon . $$$ but still limps along and can hardly see and hear but remains tough as nails !! Amazing Tough little dog and breed ! Miss his brother Kaiser.
I have two boy Doxies. I have one that is 11 years old and the other one is 5 years old. The are AKC. They are my babies and they are also very territorial of their owners. Very good watch dogs. They are very watchful of my kids especially. They make my World a brighter place everyday.
I had two smooth cinnamon males, Cecil and The Dude. Once I bred and showed Bassets and I love that breed too. When my son and I moved to Colorado we had His German Shepard Misty, my Basset Jackie, and the two Dachshunds; whom my sons friends all called LOW RIDERS. My house was filled so often with kids and dogs it was my best joy.........then they all left to college the Marines the Navy, the dogs kept my life worth living.
I love my doxies. My first dog was a doxie and we named him dexter because of his boar color fur being almost orange like at 3:25. Now we have four doxies (3 have AKC collar tags) and a chiweenie.
It's been one years since I had my dog wooo! He is now 2 years old, his name is Boki. It was Loki but replaced the L with a B to be more creative. He's absolutely adorable and is full of energy. Even though he eats things he shouldn't or poop and pee in the house. We still love him to death. Whenever I'm mad at him I feel like he knows and he tries to make me feel better. Whenever I say I hate him, he should know I don't mean it. My mom pranked me saying he ran away, I looked up and down, had his favorite treats in my hand, shaking the bag. I was crying. My dog was in the basement the whole time. He is really fast, good thing we have a big back yard to play in. Boki might do stupid shit but he is my dog and I love me more than anything
We have a dachshund/ catahoula mix named Lenny who grunts and wheezes when he doesn't get what he wants but he's an awesome dog whose super protective and playful
I currently have four. Mom and dad and we kept 2 of the 6 pups. The are lethal little dogs. When our female was in heat a german shepard came into our yard and wouldnt leave her alone and our male came out of no where grabbed the german shepard by the neck and put him on the ground. Never seen a german shepard run away so fast
Nothing brings a tear of joy to my eyes faster than tha watching a Doxie run with ears blowing back
Same to my Dachshund Oscar....

Even if they've done something bad you just CAN'T stay mad at them 😂
I know
There your kid that never grows. up just wants love amd play
And that look makes every rock heart melt..........
Not me lol... One of mine ate my steak off my plate, I didn't pet or give him a treat for two weeks... He's never done it again...
My dachshund daisy was the most loyal, bravest yet most cuddly dog ever! They have so much personality. I had her for 17 happy, healthy years!

I adore this breed and I've had three doxies in my life but, boy oh boy!!! are they hard to house train!
I love my doxies. My first dog was a doxie and we named him dexter because of his boar color fur being almost orange like at 3:25. Now we have four doxies (3 have AKC collar tags) and a chiweenie.
Love at first sight is real, I felt it when my brother gave me my dear Vodka as a gift 11 years ago.
Mine is a mix and hes my first dog. We are so much a like to each other. Love that little boy of mine
Best dog breed ever
I have a piebald doxie. He’s the best boy. He’s my first dachshund and I’ll never own another breed!
Awww 🥰 I love my little weenie and appreciating all of them ❣️ thank goodness for our little fur ball friends
My husband and I have a six year old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix (chiweenie) and a 4 month old purebred Dachshund puppy. We love this breed❤️❤️
OK, I'm hopelessly in love with 'em.
We have a dachshund/ catahoula mix named Lenny who grunts and wheezes when he doesn't get what he wants but he's an awesome dog whose super protective and playful
This video is so helpful and full of information. I am looking forward to adopting a Dachshund. This was my first step of information/research.
I have 3....and I want more, my favorite breed, they have personality and are strong little dogs. And very loyal...
I love my 10 yr old wire haired Dachshund, Billy the Kid. He has killed at least 3 opossums in my back yard over the past 7 years. Good boy, Billy!
