Barzal's is only off by a couple points. Should be an 87 or 88. 86 is fine imo. Pelech is a great shutdown defenseman I heard, but he should only be in the low 80s because he doesn't have any offensive skill.
Officer Doofie Absolutely... especially based on last year- he goes into possibly worse than Jimmy Howard territory. He played for a much better team last season and barely did better. That’s only talking current stats, but that’s what this game should be. Dubnyk should probably have started this year as an 80 at best. I could see giving Jarry an 84-85 instead.
Brayden Point is criminally underrated at 88. Specifically because in EVERY skating category he’s behind Stamkos and Kucherov, despite being one of the fastest/best skaters in the league. He had an amazing season and was nothing short of incredible in the playoffs (even considered for the Conn Smythe)

Pelech at a 78. Was such a big impact on the Isles defense, and when he was hurt, they struggled to produce the same fire that they have with Pelech in the lineup.
Speaking 100% facts. Especially about cramming ratings and players in the mid 80s. Most players are probably mid to upper 70s with top 6 forwards and top 4 defenseman being in the 80s, and then a few elite players being in the 90s. That would leave the mid to high 90s to players that are transcendent and on a franchise-changing level. Only a couple of those exist, per era.
In my opinion Quinn and Cale are two very similar and close players in skill, I think they both should be the same overall. Quinn could’ve easily taken the Calder this year too

The problem with a 99 overall is that it would mean he is the best in every single aspect of the game. For example, McDavid is sub 50% on faceoffs, so he does not deserve a 99 overall faceoff rating. This is why a 99 overall player makes no sense. If the rating system was like NBA 2k then maybe, but not in the way that EA does player ratings.
That’s not how it works though. You don’t need a 99 in everything to get a 99 overall rating. Illogical, but that’s how it works. Certain attributes are more heavily weighted than others towards the overall. I will say, that is unless they completely changed it this year since I don’t have the new game... but they haven’t changed how they do their rating system for like 25 years.

Zib doesn’t create a lot of his own chances, and his g/gp was overinflated by that one 5 goal game, it’s not reflective of how he played throughout the rest of the season. 87 is fine for him. For #7. To answer your question, Chara's Slapshot Power overall is a 91 which is the same as Martin Frk (who should've been #1 on that list. I'd give his Slapshot Power a 97 as there's 2 skaters in the KHL who have a harder recorded slapshot than him).

I'd hate to add yet another variable to NHL because EA can barely handle all the shit they already have on their plate (let's be honest, "barely handle" is generous; they're dropping the ball left and right, especially in Be A GM mode), but I think it'd be interesting to have 2 potentials, ceiling and floor, so that a player could have an elite - low ceiling with a top 6 - med floor, but another guy could have elite - low ceiling but bottom 6 - low floor. As it stands, I have no idea how to value prospects. Does getting a guy with elite - low in the 7th really matter? Am I better off getting bottom 6 - med? Does elite - low mean he has something like a 5-10% chance of being elite, but over 50% chance of not even making the NHL? What does potential even mean? (Also, speaking of prospects and potential, and EA dropping the ball on Franchise mode... god, I hate not being able to edit in Franchise mode. EA moved Ovie to RW because he played ONE FUCKING SEASON at RW, yet we can't play a guy at RW for 10+ seasons and change it; he's still stuck listed as a C because he played C for 2 seasons back in juniors over a decade ago. And of course, Marvin Jones... from Poland. I get the argument for why we can only edit some things, but it's a dumb argument. Those American names from Hungary and Poland and Austria are really annoying, and ruins the game's immersion. And returning to the original point, I think being able to edit ratings *in franchise mode* would alleviate a lot of frustration when it comes to real player ratings. We'd be a lot more okay with wonky ratings/potentials if we could just start the game and tweak it as we go along, instead of having to spend fucking weeks fixing it before we can start our damn franchise.)
Eichel is severely underrated, the fact he isn't even all that much slower than mcdavid and finishes right behind him in the speed challenge and he isn't even in the top 10 for speed. A lot of his other traits are underrated too

Matthews doesn't even have a top 10 wrist shot in the game, and if you compare his stats to Marner he barely has a better shot than Marner in the game. Anyone that watches the Leafs knows Marner's shooting stats should be maxed out at about 85 or less, but yet somehow he's on par with Matthews and has a better shot than Nylander.
He’s had 2 major injuries. Every other time he gets hit hard he gets right back up. At least from the games I’ve seen. I watched a good portion of Edmonton’s games this season. I couldn’t watch much Pittsburgh or Vegas because TSN doesn’t let me watch them
Yeah I'm fine with McDavid staying 95 since they always have the legend cards and stuff with Mario at 97 etc. I think the real issue is they need to give bad players worse ratings. Make the worst players in the NHL like a 60. Make bad junior players like a 20.

When they smoothed the curve of overalls was a terrible decision. Now the difference between 2nd line player and your 13th forward is like 3 overall when it should 5+
EA needs to get rid of arbitrary player overalls, Kessel only has an insane slapshot power so they can reach the player rating they thought he should have. They should keep the individual ratings and try and make them as realistic as possible to the player so people can accurately judge for themselves where the player should be. The average player is smart enough to know that a player with a 5 star shooting and puck skills is a top line player, they don't need a random overall telling them that

For #7. To answer your question, Chara's Slapshot Power overall is a 91 which is the same as Martin Frk (who should've been #1 on that list. I'd give his Slapshot Power a 97 as there's 2 skaters in the KHL who have a harder recorded slapshot than him).

b) The reason doesn't matter imo. It's about the fact that there is not a big sample size of games played on an NHL level, that could warrant a very high rating. 86 is also still well above avg.

Honestly, I wonder why you point out that Olofsson had less points without acknowledging that he had a better PPG. I get the argument that goals are a bit more indicative than assists because secondary assists can skew a point total, particularly in a small sample size... but... I'd probably have both guys as around 82 with top 9 - med potential. Maybe top 6 - low, because at their age it's not likely that they'll make any great strides. But it seems like it's better to have med than to "upgrade" to a higher ceiling but with low potential.
I'd hate to add yet another variable to NHL because EA can barely handle all the shit they already have on their plate (let's be honest, "barely handle" is generous; they're dropping the ball left and right, especially in Be A GM mode), but I think it'd be interesting to have 2 potentials, ceiling and floor, so that a player could have an elite - low ceiling with a top 6 - med floor, but another guy could have elite - low ceiling but bottom 6 - low floor.
As it stands, I have no idea how to value prospects. Does getting a guy with elite - low in the 7th really matter? Am I better off getting bottom 6 - med? Does elite - low mean he has something like a 5-10% chance of being elite, but over 50% chance of not even making the NHL? What does potential even mean?
(Also, speaking of prospects and potential, and EA dropping the ball on Franchise mode... god, I hate not being able to edit in Franchise mode. EA moved Ovie to RW because he played ONE FUCKING SEASON at RW, yet we can't play a guy at RW for 10+ seasons and change it; he's still stuck listed as a C because he played C for 2 seasons back in juniors over a decade ago.
And of course, Marvin Jones... from Poland. I get the argument for why we can only edit some things, but it's a dumb argument. Those American names from Hungary and Poland and Austria are really annoying, and ruins the game's immersion.
And returning to the original point, I think being able to edit ratings *in franchise mode* would alleviate a lot of frustration when it comes to real player ratings. We'd be a lot more okay with wonky ratings/potentials if we could just start the game and tweak it as we go along, instead of having to spend fucking weeks fixing it before we can start our damn franchise.)

Eichel is severely underrated, the fact he isn't even all that much slower than mcdavid and finishes right behind him in the speed challenge and he isn't even in the top 10 for speed. A lot of his other traits are underrated too

If he played for a good team, I’d rate him about the same as I would now- 88 at best. The highest he’s ever been rated was like 91, and he’s definitely lost a step. He’s good still, but not tied for the best D in the league- it’s not even debate-able.

Miro Heiskanen at 85 is a damn disservice. The guy is unbelievable and was arguably Dallas’ best player in the playoffs. Miro should easily be an 88. He should probably be higher.

Matthews doesn't even have a top 10 wrist shot in the game, and if you compare his stats to Marner he barely has a better shot than Marner in the game. Anyone that watches the Leafs knows Marner's shooting stats should be maxed out at about 85 or less, but yet somehow he's on par with Matthews and has a better shot than Nylander.
If McDavid was 99 he’d have to to unreal checking, shot blocking and toughness which wouldn’t make sense so 95 is perfect

He’s had 2 major injuries. Every other time he gets hit hard he gets right back up. At least from the games I’ve seen. I watched a good portion of Edmonton’s games this season. I couldn’t watch much Pittsburgh or Vegas because TSN doesn’t let me watch them

EA needs to get rid of arbitrary player overalls, Kessel only has an insane slapshot power so they can reach the player rating they thought he should have. They should keep the individual ratings and try and make them as realistic as possible to the player so people can accurately judge for themselves where the player should be. The average player is smart enough to know that a player with a 5 star shooting and puck skills is a top line player, they don't need a random overall telling them that
