I know that when I realized that I'm asexual, I wanted to let others know as soon as I could but was also pretty nervous to tell anyone. But, the night I found out what I was, I asked to speak to my mom in private and explained it to her. While she didn't fully understand what it means to be asexual, she was very happy for me to finally figure myself out and was proud of me for being willing to tell her the truth so soon. After getting out the jitters once to tell my mom, I found it a lot easier to tell others that I'm asexual. Now I'm not afraid to come out about my sexuality and proudly embrace what I am. It's nice to know these things. For so long, I honestly thought there might be something wrong with me since I severely lacked any interests in dating or having any kind of romantic relationships by the time I was actually old enough to date. Even before then, I was always disgusted by the more physical actions of love beyond cute hugs and kisses. My family always teased me about it since I did want to one day have children and pestered me that, in order to become a mother, I'd have to do the thing that I absolutely dread (of course, I always knew adoption was an option). The furthest my love life had ever gone was the occasional crush, but it never really went past that and I was perfectly happy with that. By the time I knew I should have had some sort of interests in dating a such, however, I noticed that I actually dreaded the thought of being in a relationship. It was until about a year or two after I finished my college program that I finally learned about asexuality from a stream supporting the webshow Hazbin Hotel. I was curious of a term they kept using to describe a character named Alastor and decided to look it up. I could at least figure out from the context of what they were saying that it had something to do with the LBGTQ+ community, so I looked it up and the more I read about it the more I realized that it perfectly described me and what I had experienced. Finding this information made me so happy that I actually began to cry a little. It was so relieving to know that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that there are others out there like me.
