  • Check out the Women's MMA Roundup's nice little write up of WMMA History for further knowledge: www.wmmaroundup...
    This is just a fan's creative interpretation of the 'history' of women in MMA. It is not an "official" video. My goal was to showcase the passion, hardships, dreams and emotions that all of the fighters went through getting to "this" point. :)
    This video was inspired by that time I hung out with and watched Kedzie & Kaufman get their celebrity on at the UFC 157 Weigh-ins, witnessing in person the historic moment that was Rousey vs Carmouche, Julie Kedzie's Fightland blog and all of the incredible women fighters I've met over the past year. Yes indeedy, women fighters are here to stay. :)
    Songs used:
    - "Panoramic" by Atticus Ross
    - "Shake It Out" by Florence + the Machine

    Easily the greatest mma compilation I've ever seen. Partly because every other mma compilation has that super cliché "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" song for a soundtrack.

    Thank you everyone for the outpouring support on this video! I'm truly blown away by it. In regards to some of the comments: It's INCREDIBLY hard finding quality footage on female fighters. You wouldn't believe. So if a fighter isn't in this, it's not because I intentionally ignored them, it's because there's no quality footage to be found on them. This is the unfortunate case of WMMA. Thanks again. :)

    that was my original point placed wrong, all this people rotating around ronda like she is first woman to do mma and so on is just absurd and ignorant. there were women fighting in mma a decade ago.

    This is a great tribute to modern WMMA, but in no way, shape or form is this a "history". Plus, it makes use of footage that is solely owned by the Hook n Shoot organization.

  • @bounce510
    @bounce510 11 лет назад

    Just to be clear, I was not the one saying it was the Rousey show, just that a few other organizations have a long history of women in MMA and seeing some of the better women and pioneers they have had in their shows would have been nice too. The video concentrates more on the fighters who have been fighting in the US than the early pioneers and champions of international organizations.
    The reason why is of course because it has blown up so big and these are the fighters people recognize.

  • @phlookian

    Congrats on the video (very nicely done), I've watched it at least a dozen times. As a fan of WMMA it was fun picking out all the fighters & fights. I have to question the inclusion of Amanda Bell (she's not in the same league as the other young hot prospects included, maybe Tecia Torres would have made more sense). It would have been nice if Tara La Rosa were given a nod too. I did enjoy though (and will no doubt give it another dozen views) many thanks for your efforts.

    First of all - Great video! You got it right with the Florence song, great concept and adeptly executed. Personally... I would have put more Marloes Coenen in there, hardly saw her and she's a Legend of the sport for over a decade. Also, your bias towards Rousey couldn't be clearer - but what the heck, she deserves it I suppose. Similarly the lack of Cyborg is evident - whether you like her or not, she's one of the greats and should be featured more heavily here. And bigup Rosi Sexton!

  • @phlookian
    @phlookian 11 лет назад

    Try as I might I cannot see Tara (I take it this is one of those fuzzy clips of footage), just to put my mind to rest could you please give me a clue. BTW, I also saw Kaitlin Young, Hisae Watanabe, Satoko Shinashi, Veronica Rothenhausler, Laura Sanko, Leslie Smith, Carla Esparza, Stephanie Frausto and Zoila Gurgel. Can't believe I'm still watching this Video, very powerful.

  • @DelSolstice
    @DelSolstice 11 лет назад

    I also saw Liz Carmouche, Sarah Kaufman, Sara McMann, Cris Cyborg, Takayo Hashi, Cat Zingano, Amanda Nunes, Tara Larosa, Ayaka Hamasaki, Bec Hyatt, Shayna Baszler, Marloes Coenen, Jessamyn Duke, and I may or may not have seen Erin Toughill. I'm not including women I only recognized on the receiving end of offense. Absolutely beautiful video by the way.

    I really enjoy watching female boxing and MMA. The lack of brute force make the fights more technical and hard-fought. My favorites in MMA are Ronda, Princess Satoko and Hisae Watanabe, in boxing Jackie Nava and Ana Maria Torres.

  • @bounce510
    @bounce510 11 лет назад

    That isn't the history of WMMA, that is the history of one of its fighters. I agree that the video should have included Princess along with a doze other fighters from DEEP, Bodog, Invicta, Shooto, and Smackgirl though.

  • @Mifune41

    This is really cool, and I don't want to nitpick, but the title is pretty silly. It doesn't really show any early WMMA. Glory of WMMA, WMMA is Flippin Awesome, or even simply WMMA would've been more appropriate.
