This is just a fan's creative interpretation of the 'history' of women in MMA. It is not an "official" video. My goal was to showcase the passion, hardships, dreams and emotions that all of the fighters went through getting to "this" point. :)
This video was inspired by that time I hung out with and watched Kedzie & Kaufman get their celebrity on at the UFC 157 Weigh-ins, witnessing in person the historic moment that was Rousey vs Carmouche, Julie Kedzie's Fightland blog and all of the incredible women fighters I've met over the past year. Yes indeedy, women fighters are here to stay. :)
Songs used:
- "Panoramic" by Atticus Ross
- "Shake It Out" by Florence + the Machine

That was one of the most inspiring, motivating, and heart warming thing I have ever seen in my life...
Still one of the best MMA videos I've seen. This needs a sequel Cynthia! A lot has changed.
Thanks for going all the way back to the beginning with Jennifer Howe...and for showing Satoko Shinashi too!
Easily the greatest mma compilation I've ever seen. Partly because every other mma compilation has that super cliché "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" song for a soundtrack.
love this !! thanks for posting ! specially the moment gina embraced her opp that was such agreat moment for women all around the world ! so proud of wmma
Yeah that part made me cry.
Wow, just wow. One of the best sports highlights/tributes ever.
Damn Cynthia! 1000% inspiring! My 7yr old daughter trains muay thai. This vid just unloaded Nos into her veins:)
Thank You, and great job again!
This is one of the best highlights I've ever seen, in anything.
Cynthia, godamn the way you make videos is inspiring. Just beautiful. I will always love and respect WMMA.
Great video. I would love to see a full length documentary on Womens MMA at some point. These ladies know how to fight!
Was totaly worth the wait. This fucken awesomest MMA highlight ever!
115 has to be the next weight class in UFC. There's about to be an explosion of stars there. I'm glad Invicta came along and made me a fan, because WMMA is awesome in 'Merica.
Great to see women fighters presented in this way. Have sent to a friend who has a fight soon as motivation. Great work.
Thank you everyone for the outpouring support on this video! I'm truly blown away by it. In regards to some of the comments: It's INCREDIBLY hard finding quality footage on female fighters. You wouldn't believe. So if a fighter isn't in this, it's not because I intentionally ignored them, it's because there's no quality footage to be found on them. This is the unfortunate case of WMMA. Thanks again. :)
Very nice! The women of WMMA deserve this and more! The struggle has been long and thanks to INVICTA they have a HOME! A place to showcase their dazzling skills, tenacity and HEART!
song is shake it out - florence and the machine
As a fighter myself it makes me proud to see this video. Fucking inspirational!
Superb video thanks for making this.
Best WMMA video ever made, period.
Wonderful work Cynthia. Thanks to the pioneering work of these beautiful women, there will be plenty of great footage of WMMA now, for talents like you and @etc to edit!
Hot babes can fight AND edit video? Mind blown.
What! I love the music! I looked up the song after seeing this.
Fantastic...mad props
Yo soy nuevo en todo esto, no conozco mucho. Me podrian decir cual es la pelea del video en la que pelea Gina Carano? Y me podrian pasar un link de esa pelea completa? Gracias
I enjoy WMMA because I enjoy watching women being amazing.
Im a big tough guy, but this video made me cry.
great work as always
This is a piece of art.
Julie Kedzie is awesome.
Cynthia: THANK YOU.
This meant a lot to me...and to a lot of women I know.
Owwwww its not available in Australia 😭
But you are in the video looking good!!!! Keep up the great work, Bec. Love your fights.
Beautiful. 😭
Killer WMMA Vid and I love Florence as well. Where's Roxy though????
Amazing!
perfect song choice!
I've always enjoyed watching the women cuz there ain't no nails and pulling hair no more there's just a straight up ass whoopin love it PS new cousins and sisters like you have a great day
AMAZING. keep it up
1. I have never seen a boring women's fight
2. I have never seen two women in the ring not go for the win and play it safe
3. Cat Zingano is a mom
Very well done :)
ima guy but this is one hella pump up video!
Yo make this shit available on mobile please!
CYNTHIA Is back! Mahalo :)
cant wait for Invicta FC 6
was that dana not paying attention at the end?
Powerful, graceful. Makes you fucking proud to be a woman.
Normally, I always love what you are posting Miss Vance. I'm sorry to say that, but this video is not your best one. In my opinion the music is not appropriate. I'm sure that most of the people don't agree with me but anyway...
I'm just gonna wait for your next one :D
Julie Kedzie most likely
Unbelievable! :)
Damn alergies got teared up.>!
The best things about this video: Cyborg was hardly in it and Meisha Tate got kicked in the head twice.
aww this is so beautiful :')
really?! no footage of carano? i seriously doubt that! you blew up rousey WAY TOO MUCH! in doing so, you do not give proper credit to the ones that came before her who made it possible for rousey to come on in.
All the girls are very good and deserve our respect, but Cris Cyborg is the real name of WMMA!
Cyborg at 0:30
thats not womans mma history. thats womans mma history in strikeforce and ufc.Now that is womans mma history! watch?v=xf9W9luyxHw
Not enough Satoko Shinashi.
This video is rubbish. You can't call this the "History of WMMA" and not have a montage of Cyborg.
Shut up and take my money.
WAR THE KARATE HOTTIE!!!!!!
The music is perfect don't listen to what these bozos say haha
Shoulda STARTED THE FIGHT ACTION EARLIER & Had MORE Of It ... ROTHENHAUSLER LANDING a RIGHT BOMB @ 4:05 ... ONE of FEW FEMALE MMA FIGHTERS I LIKE 7 I HOPE She Gets SIGNED to THE UFC .. Soon
NICE NICE NICE!! This video does alot of justice for WMMA congrats on another successful video I love how you included Gina Carano even though she disappeared as quick as she appeared but she still played a major role in making the women's division popular.
Carano & Kedzie!!! But I love'em all :)
Epic video! Great song! Thank you.
AHHH! My dream is to be a pro in WMMA!!! Thanks for giving me something to watch on those days I just feel beat! Super inspiring, thank you.
Hey Ray are you still following your dream?
I LOVE IT......All you women of mixed martial arts have my respect! Thank you for the blood, sweat and tears.
Please make this viewable with mobile devices. A wonderfully inspirational video shouldn't be limited like that! Thanks. :)
Thank you!! ...a decade later.❤
Tremendous and inspiring film making. One can feel such a sensitive eye in the edits.
Awesome fighters! My favorite MMA fighter is a woman. "Ronda Rousey" I think this womens are real heroes.
that was my original point placed wrong, all this people rotating around ronda like she is first woman to do mma and so on is just absurd and ignorant. there were women fighting in mma a decade ago.
This is a great tribute to modern WMMA, but in no way, shape or form is this a "history". Plus, it makes use of footage that is solely owned by the Hook n Shoot organization.
ALL of us at Fight Chix got chills! We have been supporting WMMA since 2006 and its amazing how far we have come---keep going strong ladies!
I remember meeting you at the Q&A and asking Dana about your project, glad you were able to do this video! :) Thank you!
Cyborg is the best WMMA fighter of all time, she would crush the one trick pony that is Rousey.
Fantastic stuff. That fight with Gina and Julie still gives me chills.
Really good!!! Any more boxing videos in the near future? They help me stay motivated, thanks.
I just posted this on about fifteen people's walls on facebook. Great vid. Truly inspiring.
Just to be clear, I was not the one saying it was the Rousey show, just that a few other organizations have a long history of women in MMA and seeing some of the better women and pioneers they have had in their shows would have been nice too. The video concentrates more on the fighters who have been fighting in the US than the early pioneers and champions of international organizations.
The reason why is of course because it has blown up so big and these are the fighters people recognize.
Congrats on the video (very nicely done), I've watched it at least a dozen times. As a fan of WMMA it was fun picking out all the fighters & fights. I have to question the inclusion of Amanda Bell (she's not in the same league as the other young hot prospects included, maybe Tecia Torres would have made more sense). It would have been nice if Tara La Rosa were given a nod too. I did enjoy though (and will no doubt give it another dozen views) many thanks for your efforts.
If you want to see women with skill and tenacity
If you want to see women with courage and heart
If you want to see women with grit and talent
If you want to see women with power and grace
If you want to see women with superhuman dedication to hard work and fierce desires to master themselves
This is where you'll find it
This is the history
This is the present
This is the future
This is the unstoppable force we call WMMA
First of all - Great video! You got it right with the Florence song, great concept and adeptly executed. Personally... I would have put more Marloes Coenen in there, hardly saw her and she's a Legend of the sport for over a decade. Also, your bias towards Rousey couldn't be clearer - but what the heck, she deserves it I suppose. Similarly the lack of Cyborg is evident - whether you like her or not, she's one of the greats and should be featured more heavily here. And bigup Rosi Sexton!
Try as I might I cannot see Tara (I take it this is one of those fuzzy clips of footage), just to put my mind to rest could you please give me a clue. BTW, I also saw Kaitlin Young, Hisae Watanabe, Satoko Shinashi, Veronica Rothenhausler, Laura Sanko, Leslie Smith, Carla Esparza, Stephanie Frausto and Zoila Gurgel. Can't believe I'm still watching this Video, very powerful.
I also saw Liz Carmouche, Sarah Kaufman, Sara McMann, Cris Cyborg, Takayo Hashi, Cat Zingano, Amanda Nunes, Tara Larosa, Ayaka Hamasaki, Bec Hyatt, Shayna Baszler, Marloes Coenen, Jessamyn Duke, and I may or may not have seen Erin Toughill. I'm not including women I only recognized on the receiving end of offense. Absolutely beautiful video by the way.
Yeah, you ain't the only one brother, I got chills, I got the hair standing up on my arms and the back of my neck and damn it I got wet eyes too. And I don't even have the "excuse" of daughters, haha.
Amazingly powerful video. Utterly rewatchable and utterly inspiring. Pretty much perfect.
Hey Cynthia i cant watch it on my phone, or ps3 for big screen viewing. only my pc.
If there is one weight class besides 135 deserving to be in ufc, its 115lb not 145.
Could (and, often, do) replay this video over, and over, and over....
I was looking for some words and history instead of a video montage... nice montage though.
I really enjoy watching female boxing and MMA. The lack of brute force make the fights more technical and hard-fought. My favorites in MMA are Ronda, Princess Satoko and Hisae Watanabe, in boxing Jackie Nava and Ana Maria Torres.
That isn't the history of WMMA, that is the history of one of its fighters. I agree that the video should have included Princess along with a doze other fighters from DEEP, Bodog, Invicta, Shooto, and Smackgirl though.
This is really cool, and I don't want to nitpick, but the title is pretty silly. It doesn't really show any early WMMA. Glory of WMMA, WMMA is Flippin Awesome, or even simply WMMA would've been more appropriate.
Cynthia, this video got me a little teary eyed, and that just doesn't happen to a macho guy like me. maybe partly because i have 2 little girls. Very powerful. Many Thanks.
Love this video! Would be nice to see more "ancient" wmma in another video, but I bet it could be hard to dig up footage of people like Amanda Buckner, Jennifer Howe and Kelly Kobold :(
Why is it that people in general always have to find something bad about stuff? Sorry if I offended you in any way, but can't you just keep the negative comments to yourself?
the very last two girls was rousey vs carmouche but if your talking about where the girls hugged on the ground at the end of the fight it was julie kedzie vs gina carano
I like that they didn't show any footage of Cyborg, despite the fact that she's arguably the most accomplished women's mixed martial artist. Cheaters shouldn't be lionized.
umm I saw Megumi Fujii, Julie Kedzie, Gina Carano, Michelle Waterson, Jessica Penne, Rose Namajunas and Joanne calderwood as well as Ronda rousey and Meisha Tate.
please please do more on women and mens please may i draw your attention to the soundtrack of the new Man Of Steal Movie...now go, make more.
Great video. I'm excited for the growth of WMMA as some of the best and most entertaining fights I've seen lately have come from the ladies.
Im a guy and still loved this. I love female fighters. Still inspiring
I didn't fully buy into wmma until Invicta. Shaping up a bunch of fun divisions was more impactful for me than just one mega star type.
i hope wmma is around when i have a daughter. these women show that strong is more than just a word that is used to hype yourself up.
