The vastly slower and damaged Mystère catching an F-104 after it conducted a slashing attack, then engaging it in a turning dogfight and winning before then crashing seems the less likely turn of events, but we'll never know...
Seems like the 104 had one party trick which was blinding speed. A friend of mine who flew 106's said they exercised against 104's. He said once they learned the 104's limitations that they weren't really a problem. Great episode by the way!
Why should the F-104 be "a problem" for the F-106? As the fastest single engine fighter ever produced the 106 was more modern as well as much more powerful than the F-104. The F-104 was older and still seemed to have a climb rate advantage over the 106, but its main advantages were that it came first and it was less expensive.
Seems to me the F-106 was designed to attack mass waves of soviet bombers and not fighters in fact the delta darts & earlier F-102 Daggers didn’t even have a internal cannon for close in combat
@@remylopez4821 The F-106 was an all-weather interceptor designed to intercept and destroy bombers attacking the US. Amjad bailed out; Ajumata could not because his seat was jammed because of the impact
The F104 was notoriously called widow maker and there was a very specific reason. It was sluggish at speeds below mach 1. The wings were very short at only 18 feet and this made them efficient only at high speeds. One interesting part was the leading edge was so sharp that the F104 team used to use it as knife (not really but just for fun). The F104 was designed for one specific purpose, escort supersonic bombers on their mission and you were not expected to dog fight at slow speed with subsonic aircraft with just a cannon. Therein lies the problem. If the mystere had to engage the mystere contingent, it had to slow down and this will make it vulnerable and though the 104 managed to shoot one, a second one behind managed to whack the rudder controls and this made the already slow 104 almost impossible to fly. This is also corroborated by a compilation book by Jagan and Samir. Cheers

Orange Putter RWR, part of the 'Rainbow Code' system ARI 5800 airborne passive radar warning receiver tuned to Soviet AI radars and fitted to Canberra and Valiant. It was a passive receiver, not a transmitter.
I came across multiple sources which call it a tail-radar. Besides, if it were RWR why would pilots turn it off on low altitudes? They were afraid that F-104s could detect it and RWR can't be detected by anything.
Please read 'Six to Gehenna', a historical fiction dedicated to the air warfare between the IAF and the PAF. The book is endorsed by the Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh, D.F.C. The author has recanted this particular incident after an in depth interview with one of the pilots who took part on the raid and was almost pushed off the runway while taxying for take off. Did you know that A.B. Devayya was not a part of the initial raid? He was a standby pilot who was detailed to take off only in case if any of the designated pilots returned to base due to engine trouble, malfunction, etc. However, the raiders were rather surprised to see him taxying on the runway, practically pushing a squadron mate off. Thereafter, he met his destiny. The only PAF pilot to have been shot down twice by the Indian forces in 1965 and 1971 was S/L Amjad Hussain. He is the person who informed the Indians about the heroic deeds of Devayya in 1965. Had it not been for his testimony, Devayya would not have been recognised by the Indian Government.

Pakistan changed its statements many times but was unable to give any reasonable evidence. But, india provided radar evidence. Western countries and their media always favoured Pakistan as it use western equipments and it has a strategic location to counter russia and china. India mostly uses Russian equipments, and western media has always been obsessed against russia. If one go through the records, he will find pakistan did well against india. But in reality, india won all the wars.

@@iftikharfaridy2974 PAF is known to hide losses, and when American built aircraft are involved, it is common knowledge that the US assists in hiding them. Best example was back in the Afghan War, a PAF F-16 was shot down by his own wingman. In order to save face, PAF and Pentagon claimed the F-16 was shot down by a Soviet MiG-23. A Pakistani journalist had uncovered the truth decades later. PAF also has trouble sticking to its story. Another good example is what happened in 2019. DG-ISPR changed his statement around 3 times, confusing the number of aircraft shot down, parachutes in the air and pilots captured. After India specifically asked the US to release the official count of F-16s, the Pentagon conveniently said it's an internal matter between PAF and the US. If only Pakistan would listen like the good little pets they are when India says Kashmir is an internal matter of India😂. 0:50 .Hello again mate, just seen video on my TV HD this morning. Helped with my 2 books about "world wide"F104. I can read the 2 versions of this fight. F104 shot mystère 4 but hit by débris or swallowed by engine. And also F104 going in dogfight 👎👎with mystère 4 ,and hit by 30mm shells.
And i add that Taïwan give 2 F104 to Pakistan following war attrition !!
Thank for providing info like you always do!
These things happen in war where both sides still hate each other with a passion. They provide different versions of events
Yeah, these conflicts are not really over yet.
Bro you are my first youtuber who accept my reply 😮😮❤❤❤
WOW a military video not sponsored by war thunder lol, well done
Not for a lack of trying :) Thank you for the comment!
Any WW1 content possible?
It is technically possible as a platform exists (Flying Circus). I just need to get an inspiration to go in that direction. Might happen someday.
Possibility of F104 being downed by debris appears to be higher
I have to agree with that
Excellent vidéo, it’s always hard to think that the F-104 could be a good dogfighter
Thank you very much! It does have a bad reputation in that area :)
What a messed up story.Impossible to know the truth...Great work.
Thank you! It is pretty confused and it's really not an exception.
You haven't mentioned about the Beechcraft shot down by PAF
Why would I mention that in a video about F-104?
Because it happened on 19/9 65.My dad was the co pilot on that plane.
Imagine having star fighters in ur Air force but still loosing 💀
I think if u dont know shit about military you shout just stfu
yes, just like they shot down an F16 with a Mig 21 without firing a single shot.
Yes just like Pakistanis claimed they captured 3 Indian pilots and downed three jets, later they agreed that they only captured one piloted and downed one jet, accepting their lies😂
@@mrxyz8366when it comes to lie indian are number one. Pakistan always claimed two aircraft. Panicked IAF shot its own helicopter. Indian defense minister claimed 300 killing in Balakot but they were telling eternal truth as Reuters categorically stated no building was hit.

Thanks a lot, I'm happy to hear you liked it!
The F-104 was more of a danger to itself than enemy aircraft.
10:08 So after shooting down the Pakistani fighter, the Flight LT. Devaya just dove into the ground for no reason and died??? Or did I miss something here?
I'm gonna look for a starfighter models with that livery its kinda' cool SECOND GREAT VID!!!✌🏻👍🏻
Thanks a lot! I like liveries that saw some real combat and this one definitely did.
Vagabond a badmash nickname of 104 a legand mark star fighter
104 je stalno na dodatnom izgaranju goriva, to troši puno goriva za tako vremenski duge borbe. Zar ne?
Točno. Doduše, borba se odvijala u blizini matične baze Starfightera pa nije trebalo previše goriva do nje.
Looks unlikely since we are talking of 2 different generations of aircraft. It would be like a Heinkel He 51 shooting down a Hurricane Mk I in 1939.
In a democracy it's very hard to hide things. However, in a country who is originally ruled by an Army or a dictator, it very easy to hide things and give flase statements.
Yeah the way mig 21 won from f16
Only feku always feku
Biased comment since you are Indian.
India was in no knowledge of this Mystere pilot untill 1979, when it some how find this incident in a book written by a western writer based on what Pakistani Airforce excepted about a loss of Starfighter . . If PAF is so biased, than better not accept this incident and take away that Vir Chakra Award from that dead pilot . .
@RajeevSingh-kq8fl except for 71 indian didnt win anything my friend.....the LOC is still there after 3 wars....if india had won anything then the LOC would not have been there....Moreover u said in a democracy things are difficult to hide...well thats a total sham of a statement does RAW works publically in INDIA???.....if u think its difficult to hide then BJP gov must be some genius who hide an entire Su30 and the dead bodies of about 100 troops from the face of the earth apart from the first day where social media posts were made by the local officials doctors quoting the death of many troops and injured aswell in RAJOURI HOSPITAL....hell even INDIAN TODAY broadcasted live on that day that SU 30 was indeed shot down near SIRINAGAR AIRBASE and ground reporter confirm it aswell.....and about 15 days later a certain SQ. LDR AKASH PANDEY died in a mysterious bike crash near gues what??? SIRINAGAR AIRBASE......
Pakistan is the most leaky country in the world where if u wana find someone u can find him in a matter of days nobody keeps their mouths shut....but not one leak from pak side about the F16 yet their were hundreds of leaks on the indian side on social media as well as the digital media....until ofcourse the govt.'s directive to keep quite in national intrest just they did kept quite on that MI17 heli fratricide for about 3 months until elections were done and dusted......so dont bring ur sham of a logic about democracy....In pakistan army cant move their magic wand in the air and disapear a friggin f16 with 0 leaks......one more thing the funny claim of india about that f104 missile being blasted before impact is laughable since missiles dont blast when they miss their targets😂
As unbiased as I'm trying to be, it's much harder to believe Pakistani accounts than Indian.

It seems unlikely that a damaged Mystere still could have manoeuvred to pursue the F 104, and most probably the flying debris from stricken Mystere would have been a good reason.
However the villagers eyewitness accounts mentioned that Mystere put up a good fight. This has been mentioned by a PAF veteran of war and author as well.
No. Its debris hit F-104.
If I had to choose one version, that one makes sense.

Yes, yes it did.
You should cover the incident when a NATO fifth gen aircraft probably the nighthawk was shot down over Yugoslavia, coz there were no other aircraft involved rather than the SAM
the night hawk wasnt a 5th gen aircraft, it was the first aircraft to enter service that featured geometric stealth construction. also there is no "probably" it was definitely a f 117 27 th march 1999

Why was Sqn Ldr given the Gallantry award so late in 1988? Abhinandan was also awarded after two years. The Indians wait for the dust to settle so that no one questions the veracity.
I read in a book, named:
پاک فضائیہ کی داستانِ شُجاعت
That the Amjad Hussain kill both Mystere, that morning.
Let's hope they wrote truth.
What a crap an already damaged aircraft cannot engage an aircraft in dog fight, let alone shoot it down specially when damaged aircraft crashed in such a way that its pilot was unable to eject and died in crash. Sorry guys this does not add up.
In every single account, Devayya engages the F-104. But it is possible that his Mystere wasn't damaged in the initial attack, some sources give that version.
@@showtime112 again another crap if it was not damaged in first encounter what destroyed Mystere after successful shooting down f104. Please be a little rational. Kind of claims are brought in are quite hilarious even firing of sidewinder is disputed.
@@snd9826u r literally d*mb , haven't u seen the video
2nd or 3rd version seem correct starfighter scored a victory then 2nd Mystiere shot down 104 starfighter. PAF lost 4 F-104s 2 on ground n 2 in Air combat during 1965 War. In 1971 War IAF shot down more Pakistani Sabre jets star fighters n Mig 19s
Problem is IAF is giving credit of shooting down of starfighter to first Mystere, whereas PAF pilot was the first one to admit that his aircraft was damaged by the debris of Mystere and he landed safely. All claims were made after that and many false narrative were created. And that also after decades.
i don't believe either of um--
No issues . . Neither a Starfighter was lost nor a Mystere . . This dog fight never happened at all . . This video was a fiction . . 😁😁😁

I would go for the mid-air collision. Neverthless an F-104 was lost to shot down a Mystere and that's really matters.
The Canberra killers had some Uber-British names.
There were plenty of pilots of mixed origin there and they were usually given full British names.

Pakistan got this aircraft from uncle sam in BHEEK MAIN
If he able to shoot down the PAK fighter even after sustaining damages and had ability to dogfight, seems like he had plenty of time for that Bollywood stunt then obvious question is why he didn’t bail out before the crash. NO DOUBT PAKISTAN IS PAKISTAN
indians have the habbit to glorify their losses by narrating the hero version of themself that cannot be proved by themself let alone others fighter pilots never mistake to fight in another's preferred position they will alwasy fight in a position that they are trained as of their aircraft capabilities, otherwise they safe themself and plane to fight for another day F104 is a faster plane why Pakistani pilot will fight in a turning fight with a slower fighter ? in part 1, F104 was successful killing the indian taking advantage of it's speed and rocket. yes Pakistani version makes sense as being fighter pilot you go any length to shoot down other guy and when indian mig explode, F104 could not avoid it's parts
One thing is for sure. You just cannot believe any Indian account.Professional liars and deniers.Got a good lambasting in 65 aerial war as well as in 71.Did better in 71 but still Paf performed better.
The Pakistanis were using US aircraft. And the Indians were using French and some Soviet aircraft. I cannot support them. That's explains India's vacillating support for the US and then later our enemies. I support the Pakistanis and believe their version in that war.
