I tried to break two hillclimb records in this 750bhp Porsche!

- Dan Prosser uses a Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo to try and break two records at the iconic Shelsley Walsh hillclimb. With four-wheel drive and up to 750bhp, the electric Taycan is seriously quick - but will it be quick enough to beat the production EV and estate car records?
Shelsley Walsh is the oldest motorsport venue in the world still in use on its original course. It is narrow and steep, making it a real challenge for for both car and driver. Power counts for me here than any other UK hillclimb. But will 750bhp be enough?

Great to have seen you here Dan and the Porsche team. You're now in the history books here at Shelsley Walsh right at the start of our 119th year of running with your drive. Come back in August - it'll be a quicker track!
Just need a car 🤔
@@TheIntercooler I believe Porsche are bringing out some more interesting EVs this year... 😉
Blasting up hills and overtaking ICE cars with the insane acceleration and torque of an electric motor is one of the best parts of owning a performance EV…blows ppl away that they just can’t keep up at all with their dinosaur ICE vehicle!
Round of applause for the record Dan, but also to those responsible for the camera work and the editing at 2:37. Brilliant.
I can’t understand why this channel isn’t 10 times more viewed! Great work guys!
Hopefully a matter of time! Thank you. DP
Good video, my Dad was in the Tesla Model S and spoke to you on the day. Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Congrats to Dan! Such a terrific video, and great to see The Intercooler branching out from its already peerless website.
Excellent job. Highly recommend spectating at the National Meetings, June and August.
Very cool😎 and props on the record 👌
We got the Simola Hill Climb here in South Africa. I so badly want to go, apparently its becoming an in international date on people's calendars, which is nice to hear😊
More of this type of video please and well done.
Dan, you can definitely drive. Can we see a future piece where you and Andrew share a car for a race? Maybe a banger race?
Great video about the event and the sport, to do that time you need to be some driver in a big car like that, whatever the power, congratulations. Great bunch of guys and really amazing car thanks for the video
Great effort. Well done
More of this please
Thank you 👍🏻
WOW... round of applause here mate well done. I'd be scared wittless if i had to do that. GG!!
He went a little bit faster than the pre-war car record of 33.03 seconds set in 2014 by James Baxter in an ERA.
This year the Vintage (in this context, pre-war) race day is 30 June.
Shelsley is such a brilliant venue, thanks for highlighting it Dan.
Fabulous film Dan. What a record. Entices you to have a try, whatever you drive. Check your insurance though.
Epic video! Well done on breaking the record at the oldest hillclimb course on the circuit. Now come to the best track on the hillclimb circuit - Wiscombe Park - on the 27th and 28th July and see if you've got the metal to break the record down here as well.
Well done Dan!
Well done Dan, I've tried it and it's hard, so you did well.
Class Dan! What did they do with the tyre pressures?
Quality vid loved it, congrats on the record Dan!!
Well done Dan, a great achievement. 🎉 Great choice of estate to take the crown, but I feel it is like a bloke winning a ladies swimming race..lol. Electric power is cheating..😜
I want that "Scrutineer" jacket!
7:50 - The FIA would write some new rule that says tyres must remain on the ground at all times if it saw people doing that...
Nice work. Though purely for internet points, I suspect you did have a hefty power advantage over the RS6. You're comparing peak power, but I'd have thought the EV delivers near peak nearly all the time at full throttle where the ICE car rarely delivers peak. At most on-throttle points in the run would think the Taycan is putting down quite a bit more power.
Brings back some happy memories. There were no spectators to witness your amazing achievement? Is it now a closed course these days?
Definitely not normally. Unfortunately, several early season Hillclimbs have been cancelled owing to the waterlogged ground which often makes up the competitors / public parking. Some meetings have continued without spectators. Hopefully if the weather improves they will be open again. Please go to Shelsley in June or August, you will be amazed!
@@simonm9923or today 😊
I have just realized it's the same hill climb that Richard Hammond rolled a Vauxhall Nova SRi at
oldest motor
sport venue in the world is the Brighton speed trials on Madeira Drive .
Brighton was first (by about 3 weeks!) but the caveat is ‘still running over its original course’. Sadly Brighton no longer runs the original course as it was shortened over the years because of safety concerns.
@@simonm9923 And we're still in use for 30 days a year ;-)
Great video .....but thats not an estate car
Done a few sprints, but not tried a hill climb. Shelsley Walsh is not that far 🤔
Good effort but it’s not really an estate car is it?
Good video, and a good drive...!! But.... the Estate Car record....??? Has Porsche ever referred to the Taycan as an estate car ? It really isn't. 366 litre boot...?? Audi RS6 Performance over 1,600 litre boot space. It definitely is an Estate Car.... If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck it is usually a duck...!! A good drive though, and Shelsley Walsh is motor sport heaven 😊😊😊
Is that figure for the Taycan Saloon?
This Taycan is not a saloon….
Estate car?!?! Shooting brake at best
How did you charge the vehicle?
I'm pretty sure those 30s runs were a few percent of battery used. Maybe 2 to 3 percent per run and even that would be a lot considering the time of 30s per run. So I'm pretty sure no charging was really needed
I'm really surprised TI made this video. Some reoccurring themes on the podcast are that weight of the car is everything, modern EVs have gone in the wrong direction choosing overall power, ice Motorsport will be preserved by enthusiasts because evs don't have the soul of an ice car. I'm sure Dan and Frankle have said multiple times cars like the tycan are dynamically compromised and although incredibly fast in a straight line it's a one trick pony. Now Dan is in the record books at this track racing an ev and sums up by saying he pretty easily beat everything and was mixing it with purpose built race cars in a road going ev you could drive out the dealers any time. Feels a bit disheartening for me as a petrol head.
I’d far rather compete in one of those 1970s F2 cars, or a modern hillclimb car. This just seemed like an interesting exercise. And it was Porsche’s idea. EVs can be very effective in short-form motorsport like this. In other forms, like rallying, they’re worse than hopeless.
👏💯🙌🏆🥇
Boring Ev get a proper motor car please
This is a speed record. He took the best tool for the job. It happened to be an EV.
Porsche makes a proper motor car, just no engine.
Nice video. Shelsley is a great day out. Very friendly, superb access to the cars, beautiful setting and a good pint available!
Congratulations on a fantastic film. I loved it from the presenting to the cinematography and hope we get more in the same vein. Just need more people to realise how amazing this channel is so you can get your expenses back!!!
Great job. 👌 But calling it an estate car is a bit of cheating isn't it?! 😉
