Happy 83rd Birthday in heaven, Harry!
#6 on the jukebox
Alan Wake reference. Amazing game!
Definitely, had forgotten how great this song was, until I walked into the dinner and was asked to put it on for that guy at the table. Laughed a bit when the brother commented that he was in hell.😂
Great game!
" The Jukebox is out of order!
The poor old thing can only take so much of the SAME SONG being played over and over and over.
I'm as big a fan of "Cocounut" as the next person but COME ON!"
Great game! I’m on my third play through. That part always make me laugh.
Practical Magic for meeee!
Same that movie is so underrated
Harry Nilsson is ridiculously underrated
Nilsson Shmilsson 😂
you mean overrated?
I’m certain no artist who has ever been on RUclips isn’t called underrated.
Nope ...that statement is ridiculous ! Maybe underappreciated in YOUR world
Um Harry had a range that few had or have achieved since. Freddy Mercury comes to mind. Not only that he wrote insane songs.
This always reminds me of Nigel Murray and Lance from Bones. RIP to both of them.
Saw this comment a while ago.. and yesterday I saw the episode where Sweets died (binge-watching Bones)... rough way they killed off his character T_T
Samee
I miss them two. I'm listening now because of them
Agreed 😭
I come to see this comment thanks, these characters are dope
I'm realising there are so many songs by Harry Nilsson that I didn't realise were by Harry Nilsson :)
The singers themselves in the mid 1970s when asked who had the greatest vocal range voted Harry Nilsson # 1
Me too
One :)
Lennon and McCartney loved this guy!!!
Same
I always love how he sings "DOCTOOOOR!"
Sweets and Vincent❤
WE PUTTING THE LIME AND COCONUT TOGETHER WITH THIS ONE!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

But who's lime is going into which coconut?
Lyrics: Brother bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime,
His sister had another one she paid it for the lime.
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank 'em bot' up
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank 'em bot' up.
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank 'em bot' up
She put the lime in the coconut, she call the doctor, woke 'I'm up,
Said "doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said "Doctor, to relieve this belly ache,"
I said "Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said "Doctor, to relieve this belly ache."
Now lemme get this straight,
You put the lime in the coconut, you drank 'em bot' up,
You put the lime in the coconut, you drank 'em bot' up,
You put the lime in the coconut, you drank 'em bot'up,

I said, "Doctor, to relieve this belly ache,"
You put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em bot' togedther
Put the lime in the coconut and you'll feel better,
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em bot' up,

Put a lime in the coconut and drink 'em bot' together
Put the lime in the coconut, then you'll feel better.
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both down,
Put the lime in your coconut, and call me in the morning,
Woo--ain't there nothin' you can take?
I say, woo--to relieve your belly ache,

I'll tell you what to do if you call me in the morning.
I'll tell you what to do if you call me in the morning.
I'll tell you what to do and if you call me in the morning

Summer of ‘72... some of the best tunes EVER! CB
Just watched Reservoir Dogs for the 100th time. Now I can't stop playing this song.😄
my immediate association with this song
I need you cool. Are you cool?
Yeah, I'm cool.
Can't remember it in the film, but had the soundtrack playing in my car this morning...

My dad and I would always listen to Harry Nilsson songs when I was growing up and Coconut was one of our favorites. I regret not listening it to it with him more often before he got sick and passed away. I miss you dad
K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the 70s just keeps on truckin’
Really "excited" DJ super Billy
Underrated comment 🤌🏻
one cord throughout. pure magic. harry nilsson was a genius.
Truly
Alana Clark ... Was.
NOT in the rock n' roll hall of fame . !
He’s not a genius, this shit isn’t hard to do. Stop calling everybody genius for doing minor things.
He was a musical genius.
Nilsson is a gift to this warped existence…Appreciate all he did
Aaah yes ! I heard this song on a jukebox, in a dinner, in that small mountain town. Two old dudes were arguing over the song, and people were a bit strange, but the coffee was good, and the waitress was a nice young woman.
I wouldn't recommand the bathroom at that place though. There was no light, and it felt very, very... dark.
I think I’ve been there; wasn’t there a cardboard cutout of some author by the door?
Whoa crazy I think we all went to the same place! Did you guys see the lake there? It's a stunning view
Me and David Byrne were there sipping beers in the corner, I just ran into him the other day he's the same as he ever was.....same as he ever was....same as he ever was
My memory of this song: I was working as a janitor in a large factory back around 1972 when this song was getting air play; now the factory at that time had around 400 people working, and at least 80% had their radios tuned to one radio station. Well, this song came on, all the radios got turned up...what a sound! The whole album is excellent. Harry really rocks it with "Jump Into The Fire."
Harry has a bunch of great songs ...Daybreak , without you, everyone's talkin, gotta get up, so many
Awesome
An Epic Moment, Actually approx 4 Minutes of it; In That many Peoples History To Happily Reminisce Back to each Time they Hear the song & Wonder: How Many people Still Crank it Up to Harry's Famous words!! >>>>>>>>>>>Too bad Harry's mgr Stole Million$ from Him Leading to His Heart attack Death. RIP Harry!!! & Know You Made History!!! Yes I remember this song Back In Its radio Airplay days & loved It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great memory, John!
What a moment that must have been in that factory!
Practical Magic, epic midnight margarita scene ❤ Man I miss the 90’s..
Don't you mean the 70s?
@alanhoal6004 for those of not born in time, we'd have found this awesome sing via the 90s film mentioned above
This song has the same magic as Bolero: simplicity, repetition and progression, executed masterfully. Pure genius.
My thoughts exactly- the song builds over a repeated pattern. Plus you get to play it in a gorilla suit!
Song so good they named a car with the same name
I made the observation 10 months ago here that Coconut is a little like Bolero. You're welcome (if you saw it). ruclips.net/video/WtV_puDwtZ8/видео.html
Perfect.
Same as Bolero.... I can't believe you said that.
Somebody remember Sweets and Mr. Nigel Murray?
I just watched the episode where he dies and I'm listening to this song and crying a lot
Absolute Genius songwriting from Harry.
One (C7) chord all the way through and nonsense repetitive lyrics , yet it's just completely superb.
Cause the song actually grows as it's played through, unlike songs that attempt repetition now, it's completely stale and doesn't go anywhere. There are some songs now that can still do this, but most popular songs will fail.
in some way it's like "the bolero de Ravel" really minimalist but so well excuted it's a masterpiece.
This was Nilsson's genius; he could do this song and keep us entertained and then he touches our souls with "Without You";
cadence changes, rythm changes, melodic changes through the voice... just looking at the one chord is such a simplistic analysis, there's more to music than the guitar you know
Genius nonsense hehe.
Nilsson Schmilsson is one of the greatest albums EVER!!!
Reservoir Dogs brought me here wasn’t a filmgoer when released but the film and this song were a revelation for me years later. No surprise QT has always had amazing soundtracks
I'm about to head to bed, and now this song is going to be playing in my head for an hour, and I love it.
This is one of those songs that makes you remember where you were when it was popular. I was incredibly lucky to have grown up in the 70s.
Y6u😮😊😅😅😅😅😅😅⁶6
I am 34 years old and, since I can remember, have known about "put the lime in the coconut"... sung it many times infact... and this is the FIRST time hearing the actual song LMAO!!! Out from under my rock I've come!! LOL
Same here! Same age too. I sung it again just before and I was like, “where the hell did I get this from?” Lol
Greatest one-chord song ever.
I remember when this song came out as well as the other major hits of this album I wasn’t even a teenager yet and I took my money from mowing peoples yards and went down to the record store and bought it and came home and played it and loved it! Of course I still do.
My smile gets bigger and bigger as the song plays until I'm laughing out loud. Love this song ever since I first heard it in the 70s.
Try enjoying it in yet another dimension: This year (2024) for National Pie Day (23 January) I made a "Lime Under Coconut" pie to take to work. Lime custard on the bottom; white chocolate mousse loaded with coconut on top. So working late tonight, a few nights later, I brought a slice with me back to my desk and queued up this video. Kind of makes you forget it's winter for a few minutes.
This man was an erratic, crazy, music genius...taken way too soon...respect...we can only wonder...
Yes, gut wrenching to lose his genius too soon; imagine how his music would have evolved; such a genius.
A shooting star as they say, too good to be around this place very long. Only the good die yo...
hooked on the booze
Nah this dude was a mediocre, overrated singer
Him and Jim Croce
This was Lance Sweets favourite song from the tv show Bones. It’s a cool little song.
Agreed 👍
Reservoir Dogs is an incredible movie. It also introduced me to this masterpiece
It might be one chord but the rhythm progression is phenomenal, as are his progressively intense vocals. True genius.
I'd like to thank my parents for getting drunk around campfires to this song. My childhood was pretty fun most nights.
I should say SO !
The first time I heard this song, it was from my dad singing it after having a couple margaritas. My first thought was that he was making it up on the fly. My second thought was that it was one of the funniest things I had heard in my life up until that point.
Glad to hear they didn't fall in 😆
Same!! My parents used to sing this to me as we went down the river in our canoe! While they drank their beer…. I miss them!
Nice 🙂 👍
Alan Wake♥️
Thank you, Alan Wake. What a masterpiece. 🤣 OMG I'm going to play this song for my friend, hahahaha.
of course you know you'll have this tune stuck in your head for the next 75 years
Woke up this morning singing this. Yesterday was the first day picking limes this season off our tree.
The random doctor line at 1:11 is my favorite. If you listen to it you'll hear multiple Harry's as the song goes on it's absolutely amazing they all weave in and out
I understand why Lana said this is her fav song ❤️🔥
Harry & his high notes still send me.
I get the impression that putting the lime in the coconut is recommended
It is a metaphor for sex.
It relieves the belly ache
Call me in da mornin
Stefan Schleps no no no it’s mixing alcohol and heroin or opiates and believe me, it’s not recommended. At first it’s ooh ohhh ohhh but then it becomes call me in the morning
You´re definitely very perceptive and have not had enough lime yet...
I can be in the worse mood ever..this song turns it right around instantly..
Yes
Good thing this plays at the end of Reservoir Dogs, the pick-me-up was certainly needed.

Harry was SOOOOO freaking UNDERRATED! Life just isn't FAIR!!!!
He was NEVER underrated !!!! He was huge , and still is very popular. Maybe just underrated in your world
we love harry, everybody stole from him. he needs respect. long live harry
Well, ... Harry Went to a better Place Than They will
Harry is truly a genius. I love the 60s 70s and all their far out psychedelic singing and melodies. If I had a time machine that would be my desired destination.
Yes!!! I love the music from that era! This song, Canned Heat's original sound, there's so many!!
@@missmew3499 Yes, love Canned Heat so much! Still listen to them daily..Going Up the Country one of the greatest songs ever, imo. Quintessential 1960's! ♥️♥️♥️

Are you serious? "Coconut," again? You disgust me. 😉
That song just makes me sad and emotional.

I had the great pleasure to meet Harry in 1980,having been a fan.I was cast in the Popeye movie.I can assure all he was brilliant and a warm and gracious man.I miss him.
I was - and still am - a HUGE Nilsson fan.
But it took me a LONG time to even begin to appreciate his score for "Popeye"...
This in the ending of reservoir dogs was perfect.
Harry Nilsson has been a part of my life since the 70's. We are all blessed to have his music. It is a gift!
At dinner for my 60th birthday in a very nice Atlanta restaurant, I spontaneously turned to my granddaughter, and also my grandson, and started singing this song. Their WTF reaction was priceless, especially hers, because she looked at my daughter - her mother - and said “you grew up with this?”
Don’t ask me why I did it. It seemed fun at the time. And yes, it was on key 😉 (C7)
Priceless , well played 🤣
Gotta keep em on their toes.
Inferring potentially, not everyone else WAS TOO, LoL He was an original & a pioneer"

Harry Nillson had the most beautiful voice of anybody in his era.
Every time I hear this song, I can't get it out of my head. Very infectious. I love it.

Such real music and talent. Where did the world go wrong with good music
Song was a hit in the 1970s, and then hit again when used in the film "Practical Magic" in 1998. Then used in TV series in 2010s, "Bones" at the funerals of both Vincent Nigel-Murray and Lance Sweets. Great song. Obviously a classic.
NOW, THATS KICK ASS VOCALS AND SYNCOPATION.
that album cover smells like weed
True 👌
so does the song
So Jeffrey that's like, your opinion man. In 1973 we were listening to this and putting weed in the ice pipe and smoking it up. No coconut, no lime.

That's funny, I'm smoking weed right now.

A guitar artist
A Piss artist

Love the amazing progression of this song. Very impressive. Such a beautiful variety on the album.
I couldn’t agree more. The construction of this song is a sophisticated, gradual progression that flows seamlessly. Quite impressive, at least to my ear.
This and ‘Jump into the fire’ on the same album? That’s diversity!
Right after "Without You" too
2 classics!
My daughter passed away 2 months ago she was 37, she hated this song so much. I didn't play this at her funeral, but I did play Remember (Christmas) another great Nilsson song.
Nilsson's roll from the bridge into the last verse - WITHOUT a breath - is one of the greatest moments in pop music as far as I'm concerned... ❤️
