So blessed to have been able to get back stage and sit behind the curtain about 10 feet back from him. Got the best view in the house. It was absolutely incredible to watch him go.
I saw him around 2005 in Utah at a clinic. Was one of the most educational clinics on independence and keeping the clavo going. Very entertaining and fun and educational
Best to think of it as groups of 12, or 6, or 3, or 4, possibly 8s, as two bars or as 1 bar. It's a 12 clave, and they obviously break it up all over the place. It's not so definable, it's improvised not written. Thinking of it as something specific is a bit off, although they clearly had a game plan that's very orchestrated
both, 4/4 or 12/8, that is the reason Horacio is playin 3/2 rumba clave or for some 2/3 rumba clave (now that the three last strikes from the clave are more close from each other than the first two: XooX oooXooXoXooo) hehe. BUt the point is that that clave match with binary and ternary rythms (XoX ooX oXo Xoo ). The shekere is in 6/8 (or 12/8) and Horacio is doing a lot of ternary and binary stuff, as well as with batá rythms (what Pedrito does) that is binary and ternary, but both you could count it 1, 2, 3, 4, does not matter of it its 16/16 or 12/8. The most important part in cuban music is not the time subdivision anyway and everybody have their style, for example Dafnis can play a really binary rumba clave and at the same time he plays ternary rythms, wich is harder to do.
I think I got it. 6/8 (obviously), 3:2 Rumba clave; the SD first hits on beat 4, then the block on beats 1, 3, 6 / 2, 4 repeat. Aside from the clave, the repeating accents on beat 5 of the 2d measure really makes it, imo.
@@nomoreblitz The vocal call (chorus) has a 2 feel at the beginning of it for me. If you think of it as 12, it can be 4 3/4s or 3 4/4s, or 2 6/4s, which can be handy for improvisation.
this kind of music is based on the Clave, not on the beats. And all phraseology, rhythmic and melodic, are developing by other "musical theory". The book "conversations in clave" by Horacio, explains this.
it is not 6/8. You can count it like 4/4. Rumba clave could be read (since they are clapping) "xoox ooox ooxo xooo" (written in box method). But sometimes bata is too 6/8 so maybe in some Patterns that is playing pedrito is ternary too (the same for the shekere). In min 3:55 Horacio is playing quarters in left foot. He never plays the clave in this song in 6/8 (or better said 12/8) he is playing always the binary version of the 3/2 rumba clave as brook it down in the caja above. Of course some feels or gears that all that pro musicians can do are also ternary sometimes, but the rhythm is binary in general.
@@aldomauricioable The male singer appears to be clapping triplet-feeling 3:2 Rumba clave, which I can only hear with a triplet feel 3:32. Same as Horacio's wood block (LH). xox oox / oxo xoo //

Yess, welcome in the roller-coaster 😂
Anyone know the name of the brunette lady that sings backup vocals?
That's Jennifer Hernandez, jendez_ on instagram, she's Horacio's daugther, keyboardist as well.
Oh mein Gott, sind die gut....
Does anyone know what time they're playing in here. I counted 12/8 but I'm not sure!
Sounds like 6/4 to me.🤔🥁 Great stuff. Wow 🤩
