- Historian Ira Mukhoty's latest book, 'The Lion and The Lily: The Rise and Fall of Awadh', challenges long-held views about the fall of the Mughal Empire and the rise of British rule in India. Through her focus on the kingdom of Awadh, Mukhoty reveals a complex narrative of regional courts resisting British imperialism while engaging in international diplomacy. In an interview with Anirudh Kanisetti for Frontline, she discusses the capable rulers of Awadh, the French influence in 18th-century India, and how British propaganda has shaped our understanding of this pivotal period. Mukhoty's work, drawing from diverse sources, offers a fresh perspective on a transformative era in Indian history.

Analogy's good, but Why isnt it GoT is like indian history.... mindset matters
Interesting discussion. One point that didn't sit well with me is the altruistic nature of the French viewpoint of India vis a vis the British. Actual French behaviour in their colonial possessions, say , Indochina indicate something else
Do Indians not get tired of writing about mughals which was a small part of the history , and then they normally do a poor version of it as they romanticse the period to make it seem better then it was.
The problem is the lack of documented accounts of Indian history perhaps or it is more of a challenge finding sources. But I agree it is getting tedious and boring… Mughal history. It sounds so foreign too… with all this Persians, Turks etc.
Excellent video editing 👌 👌👌 New try..
Might be the one of the many disrespects I've heard about of us🤦
It was great to listen to the interview. I have read books written by both the authors, and I have throughly enjoyed them.I look forward to reading this new book!
