In a later episode, Sheldon explained string theory to Penny. But instead of going on tangents and talking down to her, he spoke from his love of ST and that time she actually picked up on it rather quickly. If Sheldon would normally speak from his enthusiasm instead of always trying to look and sound smart, he'd actually be an excellent instructor.

If anyone is interested in Sheldon's question the answer is that mass cancels out, meaning that in vaccuum all object fall at the same speed, (feel the same acceleration from Earth's gravity). This implies that when two objects fall from the same height in Earths atmosphere, the object that reaches the fround first is not because of mass, its because its shape (aerodynamic resistance). With this I mean that it is true that a massive object will fall faster that a lighter one, since the resistance of air in the lightest object slows down more that object. Thats because there is air in Earth, but for example, on the moon, everything will fall at the same rate. Basically, when is air, the equation of forces changes, and the air resistance has to be taken into account, which is related to its shape. Hope it helps!!

Not quite accurate. The less massive object may have less surface area, and would thus fall faster. Think a thin sheet of lead, mass 1 kilogram and a 1 gram BB. The BB, having less resistance, will land first.

Lol, as oblivious as he is, I can really admire the way Sheldon had absolutely no problem taking the time to explain *all* of physics. No bargaining, no pleading. Sheldon was happy to share his knowledge with another. Now....there may have been no small part of that willingness that wasn't just him showing off his own intelligence, but it's pretty clear he was also very intent on actually teaching Penny. Now.....if only he'd slowed down a little.

You have to admire Sheldon's patience, pedagogy, dedication and naive enthusiasm. He was willing to teach a complete newbie like Penny in Physics, despite his repeated mocking of her lack of any studying record. Most importantly, he thought everyone, even Penny, was worth his time and deserving of getting new knowledge, which is quite generous of him by his self-centered standards, also showing that he didn't think she was a lost cause. AND he was also willing to start ALL OVER AGAIN when Penny said she needed to backtrack a little (a lot).

I honestly feel like if any of these guys were my teachers in high school, I would've been set. Also, I like listening to Sheldon.

For me, the early episodes were the best, especially the ones featuring Penny and Sheldon. Their dynamic was the funniest. After Season 5, I couldn't watch it anymore. Watching it a second time, I realized some of the problematic humor that while I laughed, I hated myself for doing it. Like the jokes Raj made about his Indian heritage. Anyway, the humor got meaner later on but from clips I've seen, scenes with Sheldon are gut-punching funny lol.

I was that kid who read the history behind every scientific discovery before the formulae or the applications. I wasn't the topper of my class and I wasn't the best at math. But I did really good in quiz competitions. I really hated my teachers for skipping the history in physics and maths. If you read the history of science, you're reading the history of civilization. How we came from cavemen to people with smartphones. It will always be the most fascinating thing to me, the story of our civilization and no sci-fi novel can top that. Man what I'll give to sit through Sheldon's lecture. If I ever have children, I'll try my best son! (or daughter!)

This is wonderful. I'd love to have a chance to learn physics with a remarkable mind like Sheldon. It's just a shame it doesn't have as much everyday use for ordinary folk like mathematics.
