In a later episode, Sheldon explained string theory to Penny. If Sheldon would normally speak from his enthusiasm instead of always trying to look and sound smart, he'd actually be an excellent instructor.
There's some great PBS specials out there. There also used to be good stuff on TLC ... before it became a channel for gawking at people in trailer parks.
You know I found a fanfic of Sheldon and Penny doing a video series where Sheldon is teaching physics with Penny being the student like the audience, and Sheldon the teacher. They even had one series focused on sci-fi and superheroes and how physics and science is incorporated there or whether is it accurate. That's a good idea for a youtube video ngl I wonder if someone made it already.
Say about Sheldon what you will, but the fact he was willing to tutor her through practically the entirety of physics says a lot about him as a person. My parents didn't even made the time to teach me basic math and I had to practically learn everything myself.
Maybe the state could hire the teachers and build decent schools. Of corse the money have to comw from someone and they should get it from the rich who don't pay taxes at all.
That's how my history lessons in high school used to be. "It was a warm summer evening" spoken with same level of passion to subject. Real shame that he chose to retire on vacation before my last year
My physics teacher showed this to us at the beginning of the year and swore to us that she’d never be like Sheldon and let us suffer. Surprisingly it was a smooth curriculum.
If anyone is interested in Sheldon's question the answer is that mass cancels out, meaning that in vaccuum all object fall at the same speed, (feel the same acceleration from Earth's gravity). This implies that when two objects fall from the same height in Earths atmosphere, the object that reaches the fround first is not because of mass, its because its shape (aerodynamic resistance). With this I mean that it is true that a massive object will fall faster that a lighter one, since the resistance of air in the lightest object slows down more that object. Thats because there is air in Earth, but for example, on the moon, everything will fall at the same rate. Basically, when is air, the equation of forces changes, and the air resistance has to be taken into account, which is related to its shape. Hope it helps!!
Not quite accurate. The less massive object may have less surface area, and would thus fall faster. Think a thin sheet of lead, mass 1 kilogram and a 1 gram BB. The BB, having less resistance, will land first.
It would have been a great marketing technique for the show when it was running to make a short 15-20 minute special with sheldon trying to explain physics to amy
When penny said you are going too fast sheldon genuinely tries to slow and repeats the topics and give hint about the question which shows he really cares for penny.
Lol, as oblivious as he is, I can really admire the way Sheldon had absolutely no problem taking the time to explain *all* of physics. No bargaining, no pleading. Sheldon was happy to share his knowledge with another. Now....there may have been no small part of that willingness that wasn't just him showing off his own intelligence, but it's pretty clear he was also very intent on actually teaching Penny. Now.....if only he'd slowed down a little.
You have to admire Sheldon's patience, pedagogy, dedication and naive enthusiasm. He was willing to teach a complete newbie like Penny in Physics, despite his repeated mocking of her lack of any studying record. Most importantly, he thought everyone, even Penny, was worth his time and deserving of getting new knowledge, which is quite generous of him by his self-centered standards, also showing that he didn't think she was a lost cause. AND he was also willing to start ALL OVER AGAIN when Penny said she needed to backtrack a little (a lot).
I genuinely love Penny. I get why Leonard loves her too. She goes from being this shallow ignorant hot chick to a beautiful intelligent woman just to get Leonards attention. She has a great character arc, and her controlled chaos actually helps the nerds open up. If it wasnt for Penny, Raj wouldve never stopped being a shut in, Howard and Bernie wouldve never met, Leonard and Sheldon wouldve been The Odd Couple of their building, And Sheldon wouldve never met Amy. I love how it took one small town waittress to get four nerds to be the best they can be just because she became an integral part of their lives, by chance
She has never been a "shallow ignorant" person. She might not be book-smart, but she's street-smart. Her social skill is good, that's why she has a wide connection and friend circles. Except for Sheldon, It's the 3 guys who are shallow sometimes when they evaluate women around base on their look and their sex.
I really like that Penny asked Sheldon to teach her physics bc she wanted to be able to talk to Leonard about his work it was one of the few times where it showed how much she cared about him
For me, the early episodes were the best, especially the ones featuring Penny and Sheldon. Their dynamic was the funniest. After Season 5, I couldn't watch it anymore. Watching it a second time, I realized some of the problematic humor that while I laughed, I hated myself for doing it. Like the jokes Raj made about his Indian heritage. Anyway, the humor got meaner later on but from clips I've seen, scenes with Sheldon are gut-punching funny lol.
I was that kid who read the history behind every scientific discovery before the formulae or the applications. I wasn't the topper of my class and I wasn't the best at math.
