With how small salamanders are, is that glob of eggs something they keep adding to over time? Is just a community of salamanders depositing their eggs in the same spot or one salamander continuously adding to it?

That’s a great question and one I don’t entirely know the answer. Spotted salamanders can lay up to 100-300 eggs per female. However many of the larger egg masses that I saw had more than that. Also- the egg masses are often much larger than the female salamander so either the egg mass grows in size after being deposited or other salamanders deposit eggs on top of that egg mass (adding to its size). I did some searching on this but could not find a definitive answer. What an excellent observation and question! If anyone is a salamander guru, your expertise would be greatly appreciated!
