👎I don’t see why you needed to change the original version , why not make your own ?
We all know that “men “ means all mankind .
    It’s a thumbs down for me 👎

Hi Sharon, I may be wrong but I suspect you are unfamiliar with the original version. When Charles Wesley wrote this hymn it was called 'Hark how all the welkin rings' - are you familiar with that version and do you know what welkin means?
Also, the familiar tune was not added until 100 years after the original. Although I have modernised the words a little, my version is far closer lyrically and theologically to Charles' original hymn. It has changed many times over the years as have many popular hymns and carols. I'm also not the first to produce a gender neutral version, but I may be the first to write a gender neutral version of the full five verses written by Wesley - the last two are missing from most hymn books.
Language changes over time and the usage of 'man' and 'mankind' has shifted significantly in recent decades. For many people, changing the male dominated language of the past is not just about understanding but also about how that language was reflected in the misogyny of the culture. You are still welcome to enjoy the version that is familiar to you, but this version offers an option for those who might appreciate it.

@ no I knew that it’s not the original but the one we sing is is traditional and good , I just see no need to change it order to add your own gender words . I just find it sad that’s all and just my opinion. It’s a 👎 from me
Not something I would promote sorry
