Hi Monica Katie, we have squirrels but I think they keep away because I have dogs. But I cannot imagine what it must be like to have deer. I see all lots of American gardeners who have trouble with deer 🦌🤨
A lot of people are going to be jealous the fact your soil isn’t frozen. I’ve always wanted a cherry tree I need to get some fruit trees thank you😎 Thank you Richard
So exciting! They will be so pretty in the spring once they mature and start to flower. And Richard makes me laugh 😂. He is such a dear to take time out on his Saturday morning to help you. 💝.
Can't complain about those prices! They are going to look gorgeous when they leaf out. I have cherry trees but the birds love them so much that I haven't the heart to fight with them over ownership 🙄 as usual all our gardening plans are ruled by the weather......rain this afternoon, snow tomorrow, so it's drop everything and get planting, but isn't it so satisfying afterwards.
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener you're welcome My neighbor loves bird and have loads of food and water out for them I have three cherry trees, blueberries etc And no bird issues The birds walk around on the fence everything and leave my food alone
I love that there will be fruits trees in your flower garden, it's going to be eye candy for sure! Next time I make a Starbucks run, I'm going to hoard a bunch of plants..wait..i already do that 😉🤣 Good job to Richard too!
This is very exciting to see planting in February - watching this in 25F with snow falling! Looking forward to seeing how they mature. The spots you chose are perfect focal points around your gardens.
Hi Rich, well I was inspired by all yours. I have 4 fruit bare root bushes to plant - blueberry, raspberry, black currant and gooseberry. Was hoping to do it today in containers (had them since the weekend but it has snowed ever since). What should I do with them? I don’t want them to dry out so I might soak them in water for an hour and then pack them back in the garage? Or should I plant them in temporary plant pots now? Although I was going to put new compost in the large containers I’m going to use, atm they are frozen solid. I’m googling for info. 🥰
You’ll be well rewarded for little effort with those in the future. I love pruning fruit trees, it’s one of my favourite jobs. It looks like you’ve given them the a proper start. 👍🏼😎💪
Hi Dan, well I will be watching you (as usual) to see how to prune them 😊 snowed the following day (Sunday) so I’m so pleased I managed to plant them in time ... I’ve still been out watering them though 😊
Janette!!!! You’ve done an amazing job!!!! Sooo proud of you! Can’t wait to see them grow! Thank you so so much for mentioning me!!! You’re a sweetheart! Richard always makes me laugh 😂. Right now is the time to cut the main branch (the middle one shooting up) the height you want. I’ve cut mine waist high, but you can even cut it knee high for super mini trees. Gosh I’m so excited for you!!! Hugs 🤗!!!💚💚💚 loved it all!
Oh thank you Daisy, that is a great tip, I wouldn’t have known that. It snowed the next day but I’ve still watered them. I will cut the middle stem. Thanks for all your help 🥰🥰
Great selection! It looks like your summers just got a lot better. Nothing like having fresh fruit right in your backyard. It only took Richard 29 seconds because you did all of the hard work. 😂 💚
I would recommend mulching for the first few years with some rotted horse manure if you can get it around the base if the trees, just to get them up to size with some nitrogen. Then in a couple of years start feeding with a high potash feed like liquid comfrey or sulpate of potash to encourage fruit and flowers. I have grown fruit trees for many years on my allotment and I love the history behind the varieties. Conference pear was raised by the Rivers nursery (Thomas Francis Rivers) of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire in 1885 the biggest fruit nursery in the UK at the time.
Awesome Jeannette! I wished we had space for fruit trees too! Looking forward to see them thrive in your garden! 🤗❤️🪴 Ps. Richard’s expression: “digging in the garden!” ❤️
🤣🤣 yes Tracy it’s not his most favourite activity 🤣 I never thought I had room for fruit trees either so I’m going to keep them small hopefully. I’m so excited to have them though even though there won’t be fruit this year. Thanks so much for watching 🥰
Hello Dessy and thank you so much! Glad I planted them as it snowed the next day and has been snowing ever since! But I’ve still been out giving them a water 🤣🤣
Oh I've been snowed in my little Essex bungalow for the last few days and now I've run out of milk! So I need a tesco trip for milk & trees 😂 Richard is a gem bless him, and I'm so happy your channel is growing (aswell as your garden) looking forward to more from you x
Hiya! After watching your video, I also went to Tesco - but only bought a Victorian plum tree - now I will need to know how to keep it small, can't have it too big to handle - can't wait for the fruit! I already have a conference pear tree but have only had 2 good yields in 8 years. I don't know where the fruit disappears once its started. The pears are huge, crisp and sweet if we are lucky to get some - so enjoy.
Oh s jay so glad I inspired you into a visit to Tescos. I went back a few days later and they had more! Different varieties! But I managed to stop myself 🤣 I want to keep mine small too so busy watching other RUclipsrs on how to do that. 8 years and hardly anything from your pear tree though, that does not bode well for my one’s future 🤣
Dang it! I’m so jelly. I want more fruit trees this year to grow with my first fig tree. Janette, how exciting! I can’t wait to see what you bring home next week when you go out for milk again. 😝
Hi Mary, thank you! Can’t wait to see what they look like in the summer, they’ve been in snow for past few days but I have been out to water them still 😊
Be great to see them develop, we have a couple of small fruit trees and never got much off them , but our soil is terrible and there is only so much you can do in pots .. :)

Hi Chris, I’m going to try and keep them small and Daisy at The Ryahlie Garden is helping so much with all her tips and advice. I think you could fit a small one somewhere 🤣🤣
I've just created a mini orchard in my garden - 5 trees planted yesterday. 2 apple, 1 plum, 1 pear, 1 cherry. They were such a bargain and I like the idea of growing my own fruit trees. How did you get on with yours? Have you had any fruits yet? How long do they take to start fruiting? Cheers, Julius.
Hello Julius, thank you so much for watching. Well my fruit trees have been in for almost a year (I think I planted them around February this year). No fruit at all this year, but I wasn’t expecting any because I was told they spend the first year developing their root system. Now the leaves have all dropped off them, so I need to find out about pruning so I will be watching other RUclipsrs’ videos so I know what to do.
