Local first isn’t a new architecture that anyone is pioneering in my opinion, it’s an architecture that we forgot because of how ubiquitous internet connection has become in a lot of places. But as someone in a country where this is not the case, local first apps are quite popular and is in fact a prerequisite for startups building consumer apps.
yea i remember alot of the apps i used back in the days uses to have little "sync" spinners to show you when data was being synced to a servers, but it was expected that all your data was being stored locally. IMO i think it was that most applications started pay-walling features and moved to doing everything on the server (including locking away ur data).

I think the idea here is bringing it to the web where right now the client is mostly rendering in-memory json
