    I really was impressed with this tutorial. I made a cameo of a couple tigers and an Indian head dress. they turned out very nice but still need to practice more. Thank you for showing this.

    Thank you Gianna for posting this video. I have never worked with polymer clay but I want to make a cameo for a beading project. I've gone through a lot of tutorials and yours is the first one I found that shows how to do it. As always, you're the greatest. Thank you

    I figured out that when you put the 2nd layer after the white ou use a small amount of cornstarch on the table, dip your fingertips into the cornstarch and the Fimo will not (or should not) stick to your fingertips. You really have to be careful not to leave too much on your fingertips but it brushes off the clay pretty good.

    to make it easier on myself I make the whole thing one color clay mixed with a lil translucent clay and then carefully paint the back ground with teeny brushes and ball tools, then when the back is dry I put a daub of the same color on the bas relief and wipe it off quickly so just the color in the nooks and crannies remain. but that is just a quicky version.

    Translucent clay works best on Cameos, where the white stands out were it shouldnt be, the translucent blends in a little better. You can paint those areas too after baking to cover the white.

    Thanks for the link to my cameo tute. Glad it was useful :D. The 'pen' is called a "clay shaper" or "colour shaper" it has a silicone tip and there are several different tip shapes I personally like the round tapered point . I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby but I googled it and Amazon has them as well. Your cameo looks great!

    You could also color some liquid clay and use that to fill the tiny parts of the cameo then bake that in your silicone mold. Then use more liquid clay to attach it to a cameo base. Just a thought. The liquid clay cures clear so what you use to attach it to your dark cameo base won't show up after baking unless you have colored it.

      *****
      You wouldn't have to paint anything. Just add color to the clear liquid clay and mix it then pour the liquid clay into your mold. It should spread into all the nooks and crannies of your mold easily. Then you bake the clay in your silicone mold to set it before you remove it. I have done it several times and it picks up the details just great. :)

      I guess I just don't get it. You said fill up the tiny holes with the liquid right? How else but with a paintbrush if not using your fingers as I have done already?

      ***** Have you ever filled resin into a silicone mold? The colored liquid clay should flow just like that. If you do need to spread it a little to work it into fine details of the mold the most you should need is a tooth pick.

    Is the blue mold baked at all? I noticed it was still flexable so you can push out your mold. I wanted to try this with resin and I was trying to figure out how to do it with out it sticking to the clay. Silicone mold kits are too expensive.

    • @BlackCat_2

      I just started making my own molds for resin with a clear silicone sealer I picked up at Walmart for $3 - gets 10 ounces of silicone sealer. I am still waiting for the mold to set though. It will take a couple of days but if it works I can make tile size square resin pieces with it. Even with the dish soap in water it was a bit messy but I didn't mind.

      it's a silicon mold Megan, don't know how expensive it was but I buy them one at the time so it's not that bad :-)

    u can use a lil baby powder to keep it from sticking to your fingers

    • @b4pmacrame
      @b4pmacrame  10 лет назад

      i wonder if that would show on the end result though

      cornstarch powder works and it dusts off, I can get the clay in its getting it back out without it distorting I struggle with

    thank you for sharing!!! (are your sure "eating" fimo isn't toxic? you can use wet tissues (like the ones for the babies) near you for this and many others purposes, like cleaning everything at the end

  • @plants4life7
    @plants4life7 11 лет назад

    You should get a tissue blade. It help trim off the clay when in the mold.

    Oh but I do love what you did and I can't wait to try it, I have several cameo molds that I have been using with resin, lol drop by drop is no fun lol (to get that 2 color with the resin) and if it's not level it's not a good one. sigh.. so I'm going to try this way

    You need to get yourself a small container of water Gianna. I didn't know that stuff was good enough to eat... lol.

    The perfect 2 color instructions for cameo can be found at thebluebottletree.com. I too had tried your method but with fair results. I think you will find the info most gratifying - definitely more successful. 👍🏽
