I do not have a mantel, but I have space above my kitchen cabinets. Wait until December and cut real evergreen branches. I have been poor and learned to make decorations with little or no cost. The biggest secret is to learn to be content (Philppians 4:19). I would go to the library to find ideas. People give away clothes that can be cut up to create decor (rag wreaths or garlands). Glue pictures from wrapping paper or cards on lids ot cardboard shapes.

I don't have a mantle per say either, but I do have a faux fireplace heater and I made a really cute "mantle" over it with a 1"x12" and a scrap piece of ornate trim. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it and it cost next to nothing to build. I absolutely LOVE decorating it for every season and holidays!! ❤️
