Just revisited this work again after a year. Still in awe of it and this performance. There are things going on here that only people who love this composer would appreciate. Incredible harmony and intervals..... just for starters. It's a wonderful work.
Martinu is a thoughtful and inventive composer, while I find his music of varying consistency (which is not particular to him) what is undeniable is that some of his pieces can be quite mesmerizing and alluring with this concerto being one of them.
This is right up there with the Symphony No. 4 as one of Martinu's best works. This is also one of the best performances I have heard of the concerto. Thanks for posting.
I adore this violin concerto words do not do this justice the second movement is utterly sublime Is this the Josef Suk recording? I cannot stop listening to this Martinu is truly mesmerizing. This is without peer. He gets into your mind and never leaves. I admit that I am an addict and I cannot for the life of me understand why music of this quality and depth is so rarely heard in the UK.
This just has to be Martinu's time to emerge from his relative obscurity. His work is so rich, so moving, and so profound that I am certain he will come to be considered one of the greats.
beautiful concerto ! Isabelle Faust is the reference for this masterpiece, though I'm quite eager to listen Julia Fischer version which is planned to be recorded next year
Martinu - 'warlike', Bohuslav - 'glory to God'. Mischa Elman - Mischa - from hebrew Micha El - 'who is like God', El man - 'man of El - the Almighty'. Praise Christ for giving Martinu this masterpiece.
It doesn't look categorically more difficult than the concertos that are staples - think of the Sibelius or Berg. I would guess that it's more historical happenstance than any intrinsic quality of the work.
May be cost performance. To play violin, we should gets such difficult skills as Tchaikovsky concerto. As the violinists, though playing Blahms's sonatas or Franc's sonata be good demand, one of classic mania, semipro amature violinists, pro violinists see such phantastic conchertos as just phantasy drama.
If anyone is here from TwoSet, you're looking for 21:45.
That's exactly where I'm from. Thank you.

Fantastic concerto. Why isn't played in the concerto halls today? Martinu was a really great composer.
Scherzo of 4th Symphony is my favourite. Turnovsky's reading thereof.....

1st movement 0:01 andante
2nd movement 7:46 allegro moderato
3rd movement 21:32 poco allegro
2nd Mvt 12:03 Andante moderato
Es ist richtige 2 Satz😉.

11:45-12:01 so much skill to keep that vibrato so rich for so long truly a master.
Gorgeous. Most grateful.
felicitations for your great colexion in classical music and most for sharing it with the world.thank you
Thank you so much for sharing these recordings with score. Best wishes!!
Martinu's 2nd violin Concerto is a gem! Isabelle Faust is a wonderful violinist!
the beginning is so intense!!!

This is Isabelle Faust! Her silky yet emotionally raw tone is one of a kind, simply stunning.
The reason this is not heard in the UK is because the idiots were misled into voting for Self Harm in a 2016 referendum.
This just has to be Martinu's time to emerge from his relative obscurity. His work is so rich, so moving, and so profound that I am certain he will come to be considered one of the greats.
A revelation!
Many thanks.
Thanks a lot for the informations! I know very little about this great composer. This concert is very beautiful. Sincerely, Manuel Chieregato

second part is amazing!!!
Martinu - meaning 'warlike', Bohuslav - 'Glory to God'. Praise Christ for you Bohuslav! You and the music you created had a purpose.
What a masterpiece!
Comparable maybe to the Sibelius' violin concerto only. So powerful in its beauty and so many different forms to it. Epic.
Why isn't this concerto played more often? It is sooooo good. Is it because it's really demanding?
Thank you for having made me discover it
I think so
It doesn't look categorically more difficult than the concertos that are staples - think of the Sibelius or Berg. I would guess that it's more historical happenstance than any intrinsic quality of the work.
Because it's hard i guess
Can some people explain me how this is so gooooooood!
I like how the pencil marks in the score disappear after a page or so..did the student give up ?
powerful work! Is the soloist Josef Suk? Its sublime for sure: music and soloist
That was amazing

GOOD ARMONİ
I was here before two set did that video
No one cares
I made the manuscript paper upon which Martinů wrote this concerto.
I was here before you were born
