It's a sad statement because as an addict myself it's unfair that he believes the only person he has abused is himself... As addicts we hurt others unknowingly around us all the the time.. I don't mean psychically... I mean emotionally. I know I've broken some loved ones hearts with my drinking and drug taking over the years... Especially my kids. As much as it hurts to admit it but hey no1 here knows me so it's easier to say outloud!!
But it’s completely untrue because addiction does not only abuse the addict. It’s absolutely abuses the rest of the family as well. And the fact that he could even say that? It’s just an indication of how far gone he is in his addiction.

He was scarred by Amber, but he never hit back or take it out on other people, instead he chose to suffer and fight. That's a hero in my book, and all heroes have to have the strength of monsters.
He gave her about 3 years of slander where she spent 2 of those years *asking him to take her back without offering to undo the slander* and then after that and losing his big roles and his reputation as a decent person he took her to court.
He told her over and over to avoid court and gave her 7 million after only 15 months of marriage plus loads more in stuff she selected from his personal belongings and he got them both to sign an agreement not to disparage each other.
He even showed he was not keen to sue her by not ever activating proceedings about the NDA, he left that alone and went after her specifically about her extensive article
Strength to battle 2 Monsters. Alcohol/drugs/ to Silence the first Monster AH.
If he really hurt her Punch her in the nose or anything like that she would of had to go to the hospital
@@etherspin I wish his attorneys pointed out yesterday that when he started being late to, high or drunk on set in 2010 was because he started dating Amber in 2009, after they filmed The Rum Diaries. Those problems didn't just spontaneously arise from nothing, it happened after he started up with her.
He’s a very special person and hopefully he will find a new relationship I think he’s more knowledgeable about personality disorders .
I have nothing but respect for this man. I hope this works out in his favor

Wow, that was incredibly powerful and authentic. This is a person who truly is working on his sobriety.
I firmly believe Johnny had been sober until Amber. I sincerely believe that. His issues with drugs and alcohol were well covered in the 90’s. I think his kids changed a lot and Vanessa. And when Amber got abusive he went back to it. I don’t know this for sure but I have a feeling based on some of his answers.

He isn't working on it at all. His entire adult life has been consumed by his addiction to drink and drugs. He is however somehow able to make people take his side when it makes no sense whatsoever. The people that suffer most from these types ARE the people around them. She grew to despise him as a bum and a waster.
@@jonathanliddane4144 you can’t be serious? He gave her everything she could ever want out of life. She lived on a entire floor of penthouses belonging to her husband. When she started showing coping stress whenever he went out on a trip he agreed to move her best friend (at the time but no more) and sister into their own suite with ALL expenses paid. That also included many European vacation trips in beautiful homes all on Johnny’s dime, of course. I have read that he was pretty much sober all the time until under a great deal of emotional stress. He then used substance/s as “numbing/coping or self medicating’ agents. For being this “bum or “waste” as you call him he sure managed a remarkable career that gave us some of the most wonderful and ionic movies for many generations to come to enjoy. What have you ever done for the betterment of society? Johnny’s owned his mistakes and disappointments with himself and that’s more than good enough for me. No blame; just owned it as abusing “himself” by self medicating all his life. That’s a pretty amazing thing to admit to the world especially when your livelihood depends on your reputation. Thankfully, society still prefers someone with character versus a pathological liar.

It's not deep at all. And it doesn't make any sense. A collection of words are used to manipulate small minds and it works for the most part.
That last line hurt so bad. I empathize with Johnny on that. Such a shame that he is the victim here, but Hollywood treated him like a predator and fired him from the Pirates movies.
We all know that Hollywood is a monster in itself.
Good thing is that movies aren't made just in Hollywood.
While Hollywood was stomping on him, he received an award at Film festival in Spain (for lifetime achievement,I think) and he got a medal (something like an medal of honor) from Serbian president.

I also went through some bad stuff… survived it and am happy now. Scars remain but they remind you, so you won’t ever deal with that part of your life again.

I’m also a survivor of DV and I feel every word Johnny says deep in my heart. I also drank in excess at that time. It was a way to escape the pain of the abuse of the man I loved 😭😭😭😭😭😭
While I didn't turn to drinking I used food as a way to cope with the abuse I endured. Almost reached a diabetes coma but here I am still surviving. Strength to all survivors ✌🏽

Most DV victims, drink or do other substances to forget, feel numb, or just cope with abuse. I went through it too.

I just realised that my boyfriend did go through similar stuff with the drinking and being mentality abused by his ex.... he started drinking and got adicticed to it just because of the ex at the age of 16/17. I'm so happy he's doing better and I hope Johnny is going to be alright too. No one should go through abuse :(
“The only person I have ever abused in my life was myself”. I don’t remember hearing anything more honest than that for some time. Every single psychological state of unbalance is followed by some sort of way of trying to numb what one is feeling - through social isolation, sleep, or more commonly drugs and alcohool. Associated to that state of mind, it describes someone who is overwhelmed by behaviour of people around, who they may have sometime held dearest, and thus people they would have never hurt. Love turning into dissapointment is one of the most cruel lessons in life. In this trial, the jury should realise where the real and honest suffering happened. This guy has never been anything but honest. Everything that was ever fake about him came from his shiness, and not knowing how to take praise. Simply, genuine. This is what happens to geniune people in a world which promotes the idea that everyone has the right to promote opinion as fact. A much deeper problem than a defamation trial between two people.

If you feel like you can't escape physically, you look for other ways to deal with it...sadly it's very common for unhappy people to destroy their lives even more by abusing substances
Addicts need support and love. When you love someone, you support them, you are gentle. I hid mine too, because I was scared of letting people down. Johnny you couldn't possible make this woman proud. She is too full of rage.

It's called tough love! You don't beat them up, you build them up! While holding them accountable when they fall down or screw up! You deal with it, forgive them & move forward! You don't allow them to sit in the pit, but shake them out of it & keep handing them the tools for recovery! Have many success cases! Unfortunately many in it are ignorant in how to help their spouse, family member, etc! And they are in reaction mode from the previous dysfunction & abuse that often accompanies! And keep hitting said addict over the head with past failures, only knocks them back in the pit! They usually are very aware they failed! Now they need help recovering, with reminders & encouragement to not to go down that path again! Often there is a root cause, & getting to it first & doing the necessary "surgery" to deal with that festering wound ( ie: Johnny & his abusive Mom) you can then address best the symptoms of addiction, etc!
We all need this but no one is entitled for it 🤦

That is how a narcissist gets you sucked in they call you names them make you believe you are the monster. Amber is a sick twisted woman. I hear him and watched him and all sorts of my abuse come back. When amber was giving her testimony I could feel my abuser attacking me! Exactly! I’ve said from the beginning - he was abusing himself. AH constantly nagged & ridiculed him because she couldn’t control him. JD is the type that wants to please others & make them feel good. His overly generous ways can be a symptom of insecurity, & I don’t blame him - his mother was terrible to him. He only wanted to love & be loved. When he didn’t get that, he blamed himself & she fed into it just like his mother - leading him to self-sabotage with alcohol & drugs.
