Leqembi (Lecanemab): First FDA approved treatment to slow progression of Alzheimer's Disease

- My wife Theresa, at the age of 49, was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease in 2018. In April of 2023, at the age of 54, I placed her into a memory care facility. In this video, I discuss the newly FDA approved intravenous medication, Leqembi (Lecanemab), that is the first treatment shown to reduce the rate of Alzheimer's disease progression.
Update - Theresa passed away from this disease on March 3rd, 2024 at the age of 55. This channel will remain up in remembrance of her and to educate others about Alzheimer's Disease.
Thank you all for your support.
Much Love,
Trey Pippen

Hello everyone and thanks for watching. I need to make a correction on this video. I meant to say that Medicare, not Medicaid, will cover a portion of the
cost for Leqembi. However, from what I’ve read, both Medicare and Medicaid can assist with helping to pay for this treatment - for those that have been approved to receive it. I do hope something can be done to lower the cost of Leqembi and the associated cost of the pre-requisite brain scans. It is very expensive and needs to be more affordable for all.
So wonderful of you to share this. I hate that Theresa cannot benefit from it. Praying for you all each day!
Thank you for sharing this information.
Why can’t Theresa not benefit from it only because she is in a memory facility. right now she has her memory meaning she knows her family.
Hi Julia - The treatment is only indicated for those with Mild Cognitive Impair or the earliest stages of the Alzheimer's Disease. The treatment allows for those individuals to maintain their independence a little while longer before the disease advances to the later stages. Theresa is in Stage 6 where this treatment would be of no benefit as she has lost her independence and is already in an advanced stage. Doctors will not prescribe it to her as Leqembi cannot reverse the damage that has occurred nor slow down the progression at this point. Trust me, I would do/try anything to help her.
So unfortunate
What a shame it wont work for Theresa, she's so young so I was very excited to watch this video.
I'm frustrated with this. It is $26,600 now. Insurance can make our part about $6,600. But the added required testing throughout can be $90,000.
This is like teasing a dog with a bone, but tossing the bone to the moon. Dogs cannot jump that far. We cannot jump that far. That's not considering the possibility of brain bleeds. I feel like all the caregivers just went through an emotionally draining rollercoaster of hope. The crash at the end was heard throughout the world. I don’t have time for the big pharma games. Lives are at stake!!!! Greed is vicious!!!
Likewise. I hope that something can be done to make it more affordable for all.
Right❤
very informative video Trey. am so sorry Theresa will not be able to benefit from this new medication. God's continued blessings on you both.
Thank you for sharing this! Prayers for you and Theresa🙏🏻!
Thank you for your updates!
Thanks, I hope you’re doing well and able to spend quality time with your wife. 🙏👍
Thank you for sharing information and most of all caring❤️❤️❤️
I guess it’s good news for those that qualify. My husband wouldn’t qualify. Thanks for sharing Trey and continued prayers for Theresa.🙏💕
I understand your disappointment Diane. Much love and support for you both.
Are you taking care of yourself? Had a checkup lately? No need to answer of course. A virtual hug to you both.
I'm trying! Virtual hugs back to you.
If this drug could give some time especially to those with early onset Alzheimer’s it will be a Godsend. Prayers for you and Theresa.❤
I asked my husband's neurologist about this drug. She said it's only for very early mild cognitive diagnoses. She also said the side effects are so bad that she will not prescribe it to any of her patients.
God bless and love you and Theresa .... you are such a good guy ... one in a million ❤❤❤
He is the model husband for sure. Theresa chose well and is one lucky woman. I have a model too and couldn't be more thankful.
Thank you and God bless you has well.
Love sent to both of you from Ohio!
How kind of you to make this video for everyone, even though, unfortunately, your wife can’t benefit from the drug.
My sister has been diagnosed with MCI so she is in conversation with her neurologist who specializes in Alzheimer’s about the drug. Again, thank you and all the best to you, to you both. Best, Kathleen
@maureensmith9923 thank you. We have a significant (female) family history of Alzheimer’s in our family. So, we are very hopeful and grateful for any/all possible positive interventions. All the best to you.
Please keep us updated on the realities of this, if she qualifies. It would be wonderful to have real insight.
@@oldenoughtoknow... I certainly will. Best to you.
Hi Kathleen, thank you for sharing. I really hope your sister is approved and benefits from the treatment. I have a feeling that Leqembi will pave the way for other treatments like it- hopefully even better treatments that are even more effective and affordable for all. Please keep us updated on your sister. Much love to you all.
@@tpippen75 Thank you so much. I will keep your channel posted. Please take good care and be gentle with yourself. Kathleen

Thanks for some great and promising information Trey. So sorry it won't benefit Teresa but by sharing Trey you are helping others who may be just starting on this journey. Stay strong and remember to take care of you also..
Hi Trey. Hope you & Theresa are as well as possible. Xx
I heard of this on the news. Trey, you're more informative than they were. Thanks for the video and hang in there buddy. ❤
Thank you Tony!
Wow you are so amazing!!! Thank you for what you are doing for Theresa and educating the rest of us!!!
This drug is a monoclonal antibody and I have great hopes for new meds developed in this way. My daughter has MS and is being treated with monoclonal antibodies via infusion twice a year. She feels better and I believe it is slowing, and will continue to slow disease progression. I'm sorry that Theresa is not a candidate for the new med but I appreciate your sharing and spreading awareness.
Thank you for sharing this, I am going to talk to my Dad about it. He very well could benefit. I see him in 2 weeks.
Your wealth of knowledge is impressive. Thank you for passing on all your valuable knowledge to all of us. Have a blessed weekend ❤
Hi Deana - thank you and I hope you have a blessed weekend as well.

My mother has very advanced Alzheimer’s. She was diagnosed at age 63 but starters having symptoms at 62. I am praying for u and your family. My mother is now in hospice and we are getting ready to say our goodbyes as she is soon going to heaven.
Much love and support to you and your family during this time.
What good news this is for early onset!
Thank you Trey!
Blessings to you and Theresa!
Thanks for sharing. How is Teresa doing, and how are you.
Hi Allison - Theresa has Covid and I actually have her home with me for 10 days. I picked her up yesterday afternoon. Many of the residents have Covid and they are mostly being confined to their room for 10 days. Several staff members also have it and the memory care facility is short staffed. I didn't want to leave Theresa isolated for that length of time, so I've got her back home. I will be taking time off work to care for her. I will most likely make a video about this sometime next week.
Wow! Just this morning I was thinking I would come your channel and ask real quickly how things were going for Theresa and you. So glad to see this. I am going to be tied up for a little while, so I will have to come back later with some thoughts that might be helpful. For right now, let me ask if you meant to say Medicaid or Medicare? Medicaid is for the poor, while Medicare is for the elderly, the health insurance for those over 65. I could be very wrong, but I think if someone is on Medicaid, they would have no resources whatsoever to help with the cost. It makes sense to me that Medicare would pay for some of the cost, while those with a Medicare approved health insurance plan would pay the difference.
Hi Regenia - thanks for the question. I meant to say Medicare but from what I've read, both Medicare and Medicaid will cover a portion of the cost.
Thanks for all your info I also am a caregiver for my mother in law but unfortunately she is at the end stage wishing you and your wife ❤
I'm so sorry to learn of this. Much love and support to you and your family.
@@tpippen75 Thankyou ❤️
Thanks so much for the update! Your are such a wonderful light of love and compassion for your beautiful Theresa! Don’t stop fighting my friend your an inspiration!
Thank you Dwight for the kind words and support!
Thanks for new information.
My Aunt Passed away with Alzheimer’s at the age of 78 & I observed others with same throughout my career.
Unfortunately cost & side effects are all to often a huge deal for those with serious disease. Sad it is a issue.
However observing, guiding, caring for those diagnosed is heart wrenching. Plus very greivious for the one whom has the disease.
🙏& be Saved in Christ Jesus He will guide & comfort you ❤️🙏📖🕯️❤️🙏📖🕯️🙏
I pray that Leqembi will pave the way for other treatments like it - hopefully even better treatments that are even more effective and affordable. Thanks for your comment and support. Much love
Always in my prayers Trey, Please say "Hi" to Teresa, And hug her for me. I cannot believe she contracted Covid, OMG, Please stay healthy for her sake. And thank you so much for the very informative info, God is working threw you❤❤❤
Thank you Marlene and God Bless.

I'm so sorry that Theresa won't be able to take advantage of this new drug. Thank you for this most helpful information. I have not heard of this drug before. It's good to know there is finally something that may help with early onset Alzheimer disease. Continued prayers for you and Theresa 🫶
Thank you Tina for the prayers and support.
Thank you for sharing this video on the information of this drug. You are an inspiration for a lot of people out here who are dealing with these issues for sure. I am sorry that Theresa cannot take the drug. I hope you two get some quality time together this week and share special moments with each other. God bless you both.
Thank you Lori and God bless you as well.
I pray some relief comes from this. Trey as a nurse I can tell you I think you've brought SO much awareness to the disease. Even though I have had Alt/ Dimentia in my family and it's just unbelievable the switch just goes off and then in comes s scared person... My God my Lord please help this family. But as it be your will....Very interesting background. God bless you Trey....I'm praying, I really am. Yes, I'm also watching for another reason... Ty so much... sending love and much support... 🙏✝️
Thank you for your prayers and support. Much love and God bless
Appreciate new info on this new drug…will see if available in 🇨🇦
I come from more than 17 immediate family members that died from Alzheimers...from my Mom straight up to my great grandma, great aunts, uncles, & cousins. As I age, I find myself wondering if the target is now on my back when I forget things or is it just the stress of living. There is now a blood test that checks for bio markers to show if you're at risk for developing AD. My community is having the testing done this weekend for free. I'm terrified to know as it would change how I lived my life (and not in a good way). I would never want my adult children to go through caregiving like I did for my Mom. A positive result would also then cause my children to wonder if they're next in line. God bless you for your gentle & loving care of Theresa. I suppose, it can't be cured without people volunteering for testing. We'll see if I can.
Thank you for sharing and I am so sorry to learn of how this disease has impacted so many in your family. You and your family will be in my prayers - God Bless
Thank you so much.@@tpippen75
Hello to you, Trey. Thank you for sharing the info. Am so sorry Theresa can not benefit from that drug.
Are there certain foods like carbs & sugars that can make Theresa's alzheimers worse?
Hi Dana - Generally speaking, getting lots of exercise, limiting stress and avoiding certain foods that give us an inflammatory response, all help in avoiding or delaying the onset of dementia related disease. Theresa ate well all her whole life and is still a vegetarian - she does like her sweets these days though. I give her all she wants because at Stage 6 Alzheimer's, I don't think diet makes her condition any better or worse at this point. Thanks for your question.
@@tpippen75❤
Hey Trey, I've heard some about this new drug. My understanding is that it's only good for 5/6 months of slowing progression.
Hi Tory - I read that as well. I hope they continue to make improvements to the duration and effectiveness. Perhaps this treatment will pave way for others like it that are even more effective. Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately this drug won’t help much and can have significant side effects.
Please refer to the Peoples Pharmacy. They did a very thorough write up of it earlier in July. This is incredibly frustrating for those who have loved ones with AD. Blessings to you and your lovely wife.
Hi Sue - thanks for you comment. I have a feeling that Leqembi will pave the way for other treatments like it - hopefully even better treatments that are even more effective and affordable. Thanks for your support and blessing for you and your family.
💜🙏
Thank you for the update. How is Theresa doing? What stage is she is in now? My uncle had this and he took Aricept but after Stage 2 or 3 it doesn’t work as much
Hi Melissa - Theresa is in early stage 6. She has been doing better with the consistency of staying at memory care and not coming home for visits. However, I brought her home today because she has Covid and was going to have to isolate for 10 days in her room. I spoke with staff and everyone thought it would be best for her to come home. I'm going to take time off work so I can care for her. Several staff members and residents have Covid and they are short staffed now. I will likely make a video in the next few days to talk about the outbreak and how things are going at home. For now, she is doing ok and playing with the cats.
May God bless you and Teresa’s time together, at home.
If you don't mind me asking this question. Does Theresa have any close relatives with Alzheimer's? I pray for you both and wish you both peace and happiness. Xoxoxoxo ♥️
Hi Angel - There is no family history that we are aware of. However, her Grandmother died at the age of 47 from Breast Cancer. It is possible that her Grandmother had early onset as well but passed away before it was diagnosed. Thank you for your prayers and support. God Bless
Trey, is it possible that this will help Lewy Body Disease ?????
Trey, since my brother-in-law has Lewy Body, I sent your video to to my sister . She said that Emory University is ALREADY looking into how this medicine might affect patients with Lewy Body.
Hi Carol - if your brother in law is in the Mild Cognitive Impairment stage and has confirmation of elevated Amyloid Beta, then he might be a candidate. However, I've read some material that suggested Leqembi was not indicated for other types of dementia. This treatment specifically removes Amyloid Plaques associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Amyloid is not present in some of the other dementias or the proteins form differently such as they do with Lewy Body. I am exited to learn that Emory is looking into this treatment for Lewy Body. I have a feeling that Leqembi will pave the way for other treatments like it - hopefully even better treatments that are even more effective and affordable.
@@tpippen75 Thanks, Trey ! We are holding our breath that Emory will at least give it a try on Joe.
