I absolutely love this song. Very sad but utterly beautiful. The story of when Sting notices he has the same hands as his dad, but his dad tells him he used his in a better way was so lovely. I think he used that analogy to tell Sting he loved him and was very proud of him in his own way. My late father would always grab my hand tight when we crossed the road when I was young and tell me "I was safe". I think that was his way of doing the same. It was the nearest to affection he ever showed me.
I don´t know how Sting did not cry playing and singing it! It is very sad. He composed it inspired on his father who died. The forgotten words said by a ghost that wanders remembering his life as a human regretting doing something with his father when got the opportunity :(
