  • This raised garden bed or raised planter bed is a simple, inexpensive project that you can knock out in a couple of hours. We made our raised garden pretty small since there is just the two of us, but you could easily make it bigger by simply extending two of the sides. I would love to hear any ideas on how we can improve on this design in the comments below.

Man, this project was inspiring! I already have a fresh stack of cedar fence pickets and a bunch of new ideas.

Nice easy build that looks great. You can also scale it up by making a rectangle and use only a couple more pickets. - Chris

Absolutely! I actually had that in the script but I kept getting tongue tied so I cut it out, lol

I had a similar idea for a table I want to keep out back for gardening. I’ll probably use your idea for legs and an apron. Maybe some stretchers lower down with pickets for a table top.
As for the plants, do you know what Tomatoes you got? They’ll eventually need some trellising. They could become 4 feet tall if they’re determinate, but even taller if indeterminate.
You might need to make a plan for how to get up there when they fruit.
That also looks like a shady area, do you know if you can get 6 hours of sun there in a day? It doesn’t have to be 6 in a row.
Don’t get discouraged by yellow leaves at the bottom as it grows. That’s normal, but you should prune those.
Lots of RUclips videos on tomato care, but do know the determinate/indeterminate thing. They require different strategies for pruning.
    Great video and good luck.

Wow, lots of info, thank you!!
I thought to put a table underneath, but wasn't sure how much drainage I would get. so far we're good, so I might add it.
I specifically picked that spot because it gets direct sun all morning. Everything I filmed was later in the afternoons.
I am happy to say we are a week in and already have multiple tomatoes and peppers, I'll post pics on the community page.
We THOUGHT we were getting cherry tomatoes, but our local nursery said there was a mix up in shipping and she wasn't 100% sure. The tomatoes growing are already bigger than cherry tomatoes, so that answers that question, oh well.
I definitely plan on adding little trellises, maybe make some out of fence pickets, lol. But the lady at the nursery did tell us that tomatoes are hardy enough that you can regularly trim them to control the height.
All part of the learning process, so far we're enjoying it. It's always encouraging to see the first fruits pop up.
      Thank you for your help!
