I've lived in Eastern Oregon most of my life and for those that don't know this part of Oregon's high desert leading right up to the western tag end of the Rockies. Hot dry in the summer and cold and dry in winter.
One of my best memories as a kid was when an August rain would show up on rare occasions.
All the kids and all the adults would set out side under the cotton wood trees that were in the front yard and enjoy the cool damp air. It was far better than any swamp cooler that the rich relatives had.
For just a little while we could enjoy each other's company. Us kids would and play or sometimes everybody would set quite and listen
to a memory that Grandpa would be telling about.
Sometimes everyone would set quite out there in front yard just admiring and being thankful for what God had brought us.
Thanks Baxter Black for the memories!

Baxter was such a gift to all he touched! I loved listening to him tell his stories and humorous recitals of his past! Such a cherished gift he was to all of us! I hope Cindy Lou is doing OK and please let everyone know how she is doing!

I’ve known Baxter for years and years. Named my best dog after him. But I’ve never met him. I read his poetry in the ear.y mornings sitting outside the barn watching the sun come over the oaks making the soft morning disappear. Makes my days a little better, my ole bones a little more pliable. Thanks for the mornings Baxter.

Baxter is and always will be a true cowboy. What he said is true, you don't chose to be a cowboy your born that way. Baxter spoke truth and never said I'm sorry for my faith in the Lord. He knew who was holding his reins. Oh that we had more real men like him. Gonna miss you Brother. You earned your new trail, ride on Baxter, ride on🤗❤🕊

I first saw him on clip of the Johnny Carson Show, and was impressed and entertained. I’ve been watching clips of him on RUclips every now and then. I just learned from the comments that he passed last month. His story telling poetry is so AMERICAN COWBOY. He is Mark Twain & Will Rogers of our generation! Like them Baxter Black will be part of us through the storytelling that he has left for us to enjoy!

Sad to hear that Baxter passed away. I saw him in person back in vet school at CSU when he spoke to all 4 classes of vet students in 1980 or '81. What an inspiration! He has put into poetry what a lot of ranchers and country people can relate to and give a great belly laugh at. Well done, Baxter. You've lightened a lot of our loads.

I have a girl friend who's treasured a early signature edition book by the author Baxter Black signed to her and she'll never let it go...won't even let me read through as she's concerned about the pages being turned. 😉

"Country and Western".??? There is no such thing! There is country and there is Western. Example? Country music is about indoor activities. Gettin' drunk, dallying with the neighbors wife, goin' to jail... Gots drums an electric amplification . It just ain't hard....
Western music is about outdoor activities and is acoustic
