In the 70's and even they some of the 80's Valley Park and especially Peerless Park were like the wild west. Then you had Times Beach down the highway that was even more fun. That old bridge was creepy though. A friend of mine was living in the Grove and lost his house in the 93 flood. Oh and the Raceway and 44 Drive-in were there.
I grew up more towards Manchester Road up the 141 hill (across from the library) and we had to go over the rickety narrow old bridge every time we visited my Grandparents in Crestwood. Never drove it myself as I couldn't drive until the late 80s. It was crazy the nice houses they tore out when they scooted 141 over. On the other side of Manchester they actually moved some of the big old Victorian houses down into 'downtown' Manchester, so if you drive past and assume they have been there for over 100 years, nope! Just 40 Lol. There was a whole row of them on 141 on the opposite side of the road from MU Methodist church (where I also went as a kid).
The BNSF follows the Meremac southwest of St. Louis and crosses it several times with interesting bridges. I canoe the Meremac River often and it is quite cool to float under the bridges….especially when a train is crossing !
@the 7:08 mark sand bar/ gravel bar, I was taking my daughters for a stroll in 2018(i believe) and saw a guy and a girl on it. I decided to stop and take in the view before me, when the guy dropped down on one knee and proposed to her. I snapped a picture to remember the moment. It was really neat. 😊
Great video!!!!!
Keep up your creative and informative journeys!
I will have to tell my sister in law to watch 10:49 this. She was born and raised in Valley park. Her nephew owns the elevator.

I heard 1-41 bridge is haunted.
@@jeffcreech7010 wouldn't really doubt it. Apparently quite a few died from it.
Do you remember the old Spanish Mission building?
@@Idrinklight44 I heard of encounters of ghost of a black man. He was murdered on the old 1-41 bridge. He was hung on the old bridge...
@@Idrinklight44 Im drawing a blank on that one. Can you point out the old location?
