I thought that was odd too. I have been doing that for years and it's also in the continuing Ed courses. That's how it's taught for trial frames, as well.
I just took this test but they used a headset that I had to wear, the technician never told me I could blink while being tested, so I tried not to blink and by eyes got all watery, but I guess the test was good because I didn't have to retake it.
"____ Are you comfortable? This is a long test, please let me know if you need me to move the machine up or down to make you more comfortable. Are you comfortable? Okay let's begin this test." (Make sure the trial Lense is close to the patient's eye as close as possible. We start with the Right Eye (OD) So the Right Eye is resting on the Left chin rest) (Make sure the Green cross/star is at the center of the patient's black pupil on the Visual Field Test Machine's Screen.) Instructions to say when doing Visual Field Test: (Next) "We are about to do a Visual Field Test. This test measures your side vision. We will test one eye at a time. Your job is to look straight ahead at the Fixation Light in the middle/center of the machine. Look straight ahead at the Fixation Light the entire time, while you are looking at the Fixation target small flashes of light will flash in your side vision. If you think you see a flash of light, please click the Clicker. Remember to always look straight ahead. You can blink whenever you need to. You will not miss a light. Please let me know if you need to take a break. I will adjust your position throughout the test. Do you have any questions? Okay let's begin. Look straight ahead at the Fixation Light, we will begin now. And now I will click Start.) (make sure lights are turned off for this test)
I had been taking this type of test for 15 years with one glaucoma-fellowship trained eye doctor. I moved to a different state, and at my new ophthalmologist's clinic they used virtual reality goggles. The MD actually said that she is suspicious that I don't have glaucoma! I had a perfect test. The goggle method is supposedly more accurate, and glaucoma is often over diagnosed. She will dilate me on my next visit in 6 weeks to see the optic nerve better, but I may be able to stop my latanoprost. I never expected a possible outcome like this. New doctor is also fellowship trained in glaucoma, but is younger than former doctor. I would love to be off the drops. We shall see in six weeks. Any comments? Thanks
since glaucoma drops have minimal side effects in the past doctors often prescribed drops to keep the pressure in the lower zone so no damage would occur. As technology is improving we are realizing glaucoma may have been overdiagnosed. If the doctor is confident to take you off drops and monitor you closely, they'd start drops again if the IOP went in an unhealthly range.
I have to ask how old that HVF machine is?? This is VERY different to that which we use in the UK NHS system and the test we regularly use in clinic is the Sita Faster 24-2. Where I work we only have negative cyls so we have to do some transposition calculations. Also - there are no eye gtts involved. Each tech has their own "pitch" but of course patient position / comfort is paramount and simple instructions. We NEVER instruct patients on how to use the clicker the pause the test as this leads to it's over-use without proper reason. A verbal is just fine if needed. Post Covid we do NOT re-use anything. A fresh eye patch is made from sterile gauze and taped into position.
Perfect explanation. It’s my first week as a tech and I feel like I did not have enough time to learn how to take this test. I appreciate your effort!
Sams 😢
Thank you very much for making this elaborate video and taking the time to explain every step to us. Really appreciate the effort. Kudos to you guys!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for the explanation, I promise to spare my technician the questions for my visual test next week. By the way Cici did great!
This is a fantastic explanation! Thank you so much! I trained on it at my clinic and course but they went so fast!
Great explanation! Thank you for taking your time to create this video for people who are interested on this filed.
Thanks a lot for the video as it was very euducative
I love you 😂, such clear detailed use of the VFA
Can you explain how to do an oct? I am a technician as well and for some reason the only test I can’t get down is the oct
Did you get it down? Today's my third day as a tech and so far its good but its hard for me to get down the oct and the topography for some reason!
The visual field always makes me tired! Lol!
Nice explanation 👍🏽💕Im a school nurse😀
Grandma Jeddah Thank You 😊 - that means a lot to us!
Such a great video. You explained the test very well. Good job!
very nice explanation. Congrats!
My blind spot 4×16
It's normal or Harmless
Amazing explanation!!
Thats so knowledgeable
What about the foveal threshold test done in the beginning within the diamond target area just below fixation point
She completely missed the step :(
What do you mean?
You're right!
Great video! Very detailed.
I thought the sphere lens should be closest to the eye and the cylinder further away
That was my method.
that was my understanding too

Molto brava.!!!
So helpful!! Thank you!!
She’ve done everything right 👏🏾for sarine
Very important eye exam but highly underrated.
I absolutely hate taking the visual field
thanks for teaching
Not sure if the patient intentionally did poorly on the test but at 18:00 you can see a whole lot of side vision defects for one of the eyes
lol best video yet can't wait for more tbh
bro i mean chill
Wonderful!! Thank you so much!!
Should they be dialated?

This was so fun
I got 100 out of 120 is that good
What if the cylinder axis is 15?
Humphrey has the degrees on the lens holder.
Very useful
Great demo but please drop the vocal fry.
Humphrey Visual Field 24-2
Start with right eye.
Hello
24-2 sita fast ❤
Ceci will be right
Why 1945?
Umm that’s not the Humphrey. That’s the Goldman
Goldmann VF is manual, not automated.
