Love this film and its subject. I hope we have not seen the last of actual investigative journalism. In 2017 it's not looking too good.

This movie has inspired me so much that I might have to subscribe to my local paper again, which is just beyond all hope in its poor quality, but this idea people seem to have that they don't have to pay for their news does have to change.

"Half a century"? If only! St. Peter Damian in the 11th century and Martin Luther in the 16th both reported on and condemned rampant sexual abuse of young men and boys, including seminarians- students for the priesthood- and altar servers, by priests and monks. Luther said it was happening within the Vatican itself. The problem is, they didn't agree with allowing priests and monks (or anyone else) to engage in consensual homosexuality either, so their warnings on sexual perversion with the young and vulnerable were also dismissed as they were deemed to be medieval bigots and in Luther's case, iconoclastic.

Part of what I found difficult to understand about this film was the fact that the Catholic Church had wanted to be left to "police itself" the whole concept of that particularly in such a horrific case was really like rubbing salt into the wounds of the victims and their families.
The Catholic Church's attitude was so incredibly self-centred, there was no real evidence that they actually gave a damn about any of those people who were violated or mistreated.
It was as if they would have been quite happy to have swept the whole issue under the carpet for eternity.
It's the hypocritical, betrayal of trust and the fact that they are so reluctant to accept any kind of responsibility.
