- writing update vlog 🖊️ i've started a new book :) unfortunately i haven't been in the best mental space to post regularly but i did want to share a bit about the process of embarking on my next project, a thriller-y adult sapphic cyberpunk novel that i'm very excited about. 📣 channel update below 📣
if you've been wondering about my next open workshop video and my query letter video, the short answer is, i'm so behind on my editing schedule and am feeling the worst bout of creative burnout i've felt in a long time. i've made my query letter video three times and last month, i flopped hard and accidentally deleted my working files when the thing was 90% edited 🫠 so. yeah. i haven't mustered the strength to remake this video (((a fourth time))) yet but i appreciate the patience. in the meantime, i'm always happy to answer any writing/publishing questions in my dm's. (i'm better at checking twt than ig or tt) 🤍

hahah, I don't know if you watch her but Katesbookdate everytime she writes a new book she purchases a new perfume that feels like the theme of the book or matches the characters and wears it when she is writing that book. Lve the new keyboard and excited for the new book.

You inspire to stop dreaming of writing, and start writing instead ❤
Can you talk more about short fiction and how to start and get through a whole novel, I struggle with both of these things! Any advice from viewers are welcomed, too.
I'd say, come up with an inspiring idea, understand who the characters are, what do they want?
Write a basic plot at least about the start, middle, and end. Hopefully having some images or music or something that gets you in the mood of your book can help. I wish you luck.
Also if you are stuck on one part like a fight scene, or a scene where someone gets heartbroken, try to write another part. Don't focus too much on the word amount or the editing. Things can be fixed after.
Hope these tips are helpful :)
Maybe set a timer than write. see what happens :)

Your new book sounds so cool! I hope the writing keeps going well. I totally agree that having a fun project is always a good idea, just something a little lower pressure where you can PLAY. I'm currently neck deep in revision and actually really loving it!

This was great to watch 😊 your stories seem so intriguing, these are always fun ro watch. I'm working on a horror comedy about a man who tries to kill this guy but the guy comes back and he's cursed to be with him forever. Its going to be hilarious and kind of gross but im enjoying it a lot 😁 its the most fun i've had writing in a long time 😊

for me chapter length is such a struggle. i have written 12k chapters several times, and once a 16K chapter. of course i have to split them but it's a struggle.
Okay, but actually a pro-bending sports anime would just be so good. Earlier this week, I finished a rewatch of the OG Last Air Bender series, and then afterwards I kind-of-might've-accidentally rewatched all of Korra in three days. (😎) And at the very least, I want a full proper pro-bending video game (yes, I know that it was a side game in that one Korra game from several years ago, but still...)
Felt a little sad seeing the matcha keypads go because green is my favorite color, and that keyboard looked so perf, but I can get behind the idea of switching things up with each book. Haha
This vlog was actually so much fun. Lots of laughs and lots of nodding my head because relatable. I'm looking forward to this new project. You have such an interesting take on the cyberpunk genre (that one time that you compared net-running to a magic system has stuck with me), and I'm sure that the end product will be fantastic.

hello, kris I was wondering if during the drafting process you continue to read other work or do you find it influences your current wip. btw love your channel!!!
i mostly read when i’m not drafting or i purposely have to take a break from drafting because i do get influenced easily :) but i also try to set aside a book or two that is similar to the writing style of whatever i’m currently writing and i read a few pages from these set books at the start of every writing session to get back into the “voice” of my wip.

Just want to say how reassuring it felt for you to call a 500 word session decent. Also a writer with a full time other job, and I know rationally any chance to get words out is a good session. But seeing people talk about their multi thousand word sprints bogs me down a lil 😅
