This was needed. The tone of my voice isn't very feminine. Plus I was very tomboy-ish growing up and transitioned into an absolute plain Jane. I just turned 25 and decided to go on an "Esther" season (biblical) to reform myself and reveal a new feminine side of me. Thanks for the video.

Since I was a teenager, people always told me "I talk white/ I act white."
I was always insecure about it because as a African American young lady, I thought I had to be more loud, sound more rough, use a lower grade vocabulary, and use profanity. JUST to be what I thought I should be to fit in.
As woman now, I'm so glad I never gave in and succumbed to what people expected me to be because I'm proud to say the way I present myself is not associated with my race. It is associated with my divine femininity.
I have never been turned down from a job and I do not find myself in conflicting situations with people.

    Summary (Voice & Speech):
    - You have control over your voice. If you begin to pay attention, people's voices change depending on who they speak with (i.e. baby, customer service, etc.). You can train your voice to sound a certain way. If you want something, you can change your tone. Practice speaking in a tone that's easy for you.
    - Feminine voices are soft and light (common for feminine voices). The tone of voice that you use is important!
    - When you are out in public, there is no need to raise your voice. Oftentimes, it attracts negative attention.
    - How you speak puts you in certain categories in life, it signifies which class you belong into.
    - Be mindful about what you say out loud.
    - Speak up so people can hear you, not because you're raising your voice.
    - The rate at which you speak is also important! People have a problem with those who speak really fast vs. someone who speak slowly. Speak at medium pace (ideal)
    - The way that they speak, feminine women are expressive. They are engaging when they speak (i.e. use your eyes, body, and smile! to draw people in)
    - Goal: have a voice that is soothing, calm, and paced
    - Behaviours within speech: Talking too much, it is really stressful when you're speaking to someone who speaks too much. Don't keep people captive in your conversations especially when they are on their way somewhere. Everyone doesn't need to know everything about you - do no overshare!
    - Do more listening than talking. Have a little bit of mystery to you - by mindful about how much you talk and who you are talking to
    - Ensure that when you are talking to someone that you are making eye contact (depending on the culture)
    - Do not interrupt while people are talking
    - Give people you're undivided attention, do not be on the phone/internet while they are speaking to you
    - Profanity: Delete from your vocabulary. Use adjectives and refrain from sounding aggressive. If you disagree with someone, still do not resort to profanity
    - Surround yourself with people that are like you! do not try to fit in by resorting to profanity.
    - Have standards for yourself. If you are well dressed and takes care of yourself, others will adapt their tone to you.
    - Build up your vocabulary by reading books

My masculine energy stems from my childhood, my voice was originally soft and I almost couldn’t speak up so people often spoke over me. So I became really stern. Also, I started working at 13 so I had to protect myself so I learned aggression. I learned that feminine behavior is too submissive.

I love it! I used to work in catering and we were taught how important it was to smile and watch our posture. Now that I work in customer service, I've really learned to master my way of speaking. About 55% of communication is non-verbal, which gets lost in my job because I'm on the phone and people can't see me. They train us to ask the right question, listen carefully and watch our language. I've noticed that people react very differently when I bring them bad news. They tend to be more understanding of the situation and it saved me when a customer filed a complaint against me, because I didn't allow my emotions to come through.
This has helped me so much in my personal life as well.

Thank you, dear Michelle! I am absolutely enjoying your videos. I have been working for some time on being more feminine and practising my speaking voice. It is so hard sometimes trying to practice and then put it into practice at work, especially when there is so much noise in the background and you are trying to speak in a medium, med-register and being mindful that there are people working there and just a few steps away are the customers. Oh my! At some point when I began working there one of my colleagues started cursing and she expected me to say something back. I did not know what to say since I felt all eyes on me. I stayed neutral and later told the manager what happened. Thankfully he corrected her. It's important to know when to hold back and when to speak up. Never over chat or over-share personal stuff with colleagues or people you barely know. The rest of your advice I will keep in mind next time I go out.

@@HarpistJoanna Growing and improving yourself means to embraced your authentic self. You don't need to watch a video to tell you how to talk or how to act. All you have to do is go within. Also realize that we all have masculine and feminine energy and that are energy doesn't always match our gender and that is okay.. Alot of times we are trying to be someone we are not just because someone put that expectation on us. I know from experience. I used to try so hard to be someone I wasn't or someone the world expected me to be. And I ended up suffering in the end. Connect with yourself. Mediate, spend some time alone, and fill yourself up with self love 💘. And you will find that you don't have to try so hard, you can just be. Hello lovely people! I just wanted to remind the audience that speaking in a feminine way is not about having a high-pitched voice. If that's what you want, go for it! But just having a high voice does not make it feminine. Lean into your natural register and focus on fine-tuning the highlights of your voice. Soften your speech and truly think about what you are saying. Speak from your heart (or perhaps other places in your body if you're in that kind of situation). Candice Oneida has a good video about feminine speech as well if anyone wants more reference on getting in touch with your feminine energy.
