Thijs van Leer, my musical hero for so many years on flute and still going strong. He started the band Focus in 1969 and their greatest hit was Hocus Pocus. They did a show in the US in 1973 (NBC's Midnight Special) where they did a sped up version of this one as there was a limited time provided to perform it and Thijs went crazy that night . That video has become a great hit on RUclips over the years and is surely worth a reaction.

I think that you have seen that tall hippie dude before 😁. His name is Arjen Anthony Lucassan aka mr. Ayreon himself. He is the one that creates this all, the musical mastermind.
@@purplebutterflywithabrokenwing In this rock opera he performs the role of The Hippie. Since that is the only album where he actually played a role himself, he has adopted it as his nickname. Btw the first singer is John ‘Jay-Cee’ Cuijpers, singer of the band The Praying Mantis and the female singer is Simone Simons from Epica. A nice introduction to Epica is the live video of ‘Sancta Terra’ featuring… Floor Jansen. Fun fact: these two are close friends.
@@treintje1001 i’ve heard of Epica I would like to do some reactions to their videos never heard of the praying Manis before.. any songs of theirs, that you know?
The tall hippie dude is so cool (although still a LUL)! He writes amazing music. But some people say his lyrics are a bit cheesy. Some even said that about this song! How uncool of them. It’s just a song about an alien, a hippie and a barbarian (in space).😂 No need to get uptight. Love your reactions.👍
I don’t get to see him enough to know his face. I only saw him in the one song I reacted to, but I thought it was him but who doesn’t like a song about all of those topics in one song silly people 🙃🤘🏻🎶❤️ thank you for your kind words and your support of the channel
The flute player is a highly respected veteran who probably has inspired Arjen with his complex rhythms. His name is Thijs van Leer from the group Focus, hitting the charts back in the 1970s. Then he played flute, keyboards and had a very distinctive high head voice, and he could 'jodel'. And he wrote most of the songs. ruclips.net/video/zLzCND9lTg4/видео.htmlsi=LtIEkcPJavzd2i0Y
He was completely destroying it. I’ve never seen someone play flute like that, and I’m sure anyone could be inspired by his performance. Thank you for the info. I’ll check it out. 🎶🤘🏻❤️
@@purplebutterflywithabrokenwing I have synethesia, I "see" music as I listen to it. The woman up top singing soprano is Floor Jansen. She causes such a catharsis, I sometimes weep.
Ayreon is not like the Avengers cause that is collective. Ayreon is a project spearheaded by Arjen Lucassen (the Hippie in this video). He writes all the music, the lyrics, performs most of the instruments on the albums except for the drums and some featured instruments / soloists. He casts all the singers (the man by now has the most valuable address book in the world), records and produces the albums. Then when it is time to a live-show he has his core band with Joost van den Broek (keyboardplayer) acting as his music director. Joost figures how to bring it to life, rehearses with the band and then Arjen eventually joins the rehearsals to oversee everything. He does suffer from quite a bit of stagefright hence you don't see him up on stage most of the time. In the case of the Electric Castle album he initially had someone else cast as the Hippie but that person led him down and with the deadline for the album fast approaching he eventually recorded the parts himself. And that is why he is singing the part of the Hippie also on stage.
I guess I meant that in a way that everybody does their own thing, but then they collectively come together to create greatness musically. And I didn’t recognize him because he rarely shows himself. I only saw him in one video for a brief amount of time, but I do love how he brings all the bands together and makes wonderful music. ❤️🎶🤘🏻
Great reaction to one of my favorite Ayreon songs. Just love Arjen as the hippie. Having John de Lancie in the role as the Forever is very apropos since he also played an immortal creature, Q, on Space Trek Next Generation. Most of the singers have been covered but I want to shout out to the two ladies on the balcony singing backing vocals. They are Marcela Bovio and Dianne van Giersbergen. Marcela is a long time collaborated with Arjen and often sings the vocal track then Arjen sends to other singers to learn from before recording them for the albums. I am a huge fan and think she is second only to Floor in terms of power and versatility for a female singer. Checkout Out in the Real World from this cocnert or my all time favorite song she sings, Here to Stay. She did an album where her fans provided ideas for songs. For here to Stay the idea was from a man who had a medical scare and thought he had cancer but turns out he didn't. The song is about how that journey changed his perspective on life. About a year after releasing that album Marcela was diagnosed with cancer herself and a year later was declared cancer free. This performance from her home studio is from shortly after she found out she was cancer free. ruclips.net/video/joSDTT4ZWYs/видео.htmlsi=lmY3zjkIoaa5xwuc. Beautiful and powerful. Dainne has been releasing singles from a new album she will be releasing and just dropped a new video last Friday called A Symphonic Tragedywith a guitar solo by Arjen. ruclips.net/video/nu4GpQBCA5I/видео.htmlsi=2TCjh1eFz5mX1vak. You definitely to add some Epica and Simone Simons to your channel. Many will recommend Sancta Terra with Floor but it is not my favorite Epica song. A little inspiration from Kansas & Jethro Tull in this one. The woman in the balcony with the black eye mask is Simone from Epica. She plays the role of the Indian maiden.
